Me, an American: That’s it? That’s all he did? And there was a Conservative party mutiny resulting in his resignation? Man our country really is fucked up.

He was basically forced out by his own party because he made himself into electoral kryptonite. In theory all the people that stepped down or forced his hand in other ways could all change their mind and start supporting him again, but I seriously doubt they will. Too much face to possibly lose, too much opportunity to grab now that a BJ-shaped vacuum has been created.
I'm sure we'll see him return in some other fashion, but it's very unlikely to be as a Tory PM.
