My heart swelled up with pride seeing him up there.
It was revealing just how much the recognition by his peers meant to him.
Quest is one of the most eloquent voices in modern music/Black culture and based on how his speech started, it seemed he planned a very urgent speech.
But seeing someone so gifted at speaking reduced to sheer emotion was telling and also hit all the right notes.
I'm glad his mother was there and I know his father is beaming down from the afterlife proud of him.
On a personal note, my thoughts drifted back to learning about him and the band nearly 30 years ago. He and The Roots were my avatars and seeing them rise made me feel a bit of vicarious pride.
Seeing the band's successes over these recent years, amid the tragedies, seems so beautiful. That they persevered and became the overnight successes that was only 40 years in the making has to be immensely validating, personally and professionally. And personally, it felt heartwarming knowing that The Band that Could, finally did.
Also, it's ironic that someone who loathed making music videos as an musician arguably won his greatest recognition making a glorified music video.

at the Public during the pre-Broadway run, after which the connected with Miranda to produce the soundtrack which came out later. But yeah, maybe they did some consulting, I know there were many who saw some of the workshops and gave notes even before the stage show was completed. But definitely not in any official capacity that would have made them Tony-eligible.

From seeing these cats perform at my college, to coming here and hearing the early gripes and the inside baseball about the industry, to see the rise to being those dudes both in hip-hop and beyond.
It's not only just seeing hard work pay off, It just feels like one of your homeys making it big.

========================================= I'm an advocate for working smarter, not harder. If you just focus on working hard you end up making someone else rich and not having much to show for it. (c) mad
