It's funny how at times like these people still add little shots of hate in. Maybe it's just me but, around the minute make they just add some unnecessary racism in there. I'm at the movies with my nephew watching some Disney shit and this trailer is thrown in there.

If you have a bunch of racist white folks who don't like Puerto Ricans, TRUST me they also don't like Black folks. And to your point, YES it's a blatant jab, and that's the point. That character (and many of the others who are in the Jets) are blatantly racist. They aren't gonna have a problem with Puerto Ricans but be cool with Black people.
The "subtle" part of the racism in the original play and film was having white actors play Puerto Ricans. I thought this post would be about that...In the Heights caught flack for having mostly light-skinned Latino actors. I've seen some Puerto Ricans upset about Rachel Zeglar playing Maria in this since she is half Columbian and half Polish instead of a Puerto Rican actress.
But being mad a the blatant racism in the story when that's exactly what the story is about??? Wow...

It's a love story about a guy and girl from two separate groups (divided by race) who won't be able to be together because of the racism prevalent in their environment. Simple as that.

choice. As if the trailer editors grabbed audio of one character saying "people I don't like" and then threw it over an unrelated scene showing Black people to make a subtle, unconscious connection.
That's not what this is here...look at the video of the scene - you're seeing a literal gang of racist white dudes in the 1950's, who look to be taken aback at the "audacity" of Black folks crossing the street in front of them. Look at the faces of the Black couple crossing the street - you can tell this is completely all intentional.
These aren't Black folks being singled out by the director or trailer editors, we're seeing a group of racist white folks having their racism spotlighted.

Is perceived as a knock on black people and not the racist. I see it and it establishes to me these are bad people. I don't see any reflection on the black people shown in the scene.

was confused by the post is because I thought there actually ARE legitimate reasons to critique the film. Just looking at the trailer, I'd think the same critique leveled at In The Heights about the Latino characters being mostly light-skinned is a legit critique. As I mentioned up above, having Maria played by a non-Puerto Rican actress is a legit critique.
But you calling out "subtle" racism while pointing at a scene which is blatantly racist is what's throwing everyone off.
Your point about the original not having Black people in it also doesn't make sense. The original play/film could be criticized for "playing both sides" in terms of the Jets and the Sharks both shown as being wrong (along with the fact that for a good while the only Broadway roles Latinos were getting was as gang members) and not being true to the level of actual racism whites in the 1950s would be blatantly displaying. Updating this for 2021 (while still being set in the 50s) would make sense showing that the Jets weren't just racist against Puerto Ricans, but had white supremacist leanings in a more broad sense. To sum it up, not having Black people in the original feels like an exclusion given the period, likely because they weren't putting Black actors in mainstream plays/films very much at the time - definitely not in sympathetic roles in which they'd be highlighting the negative aspect of racist white folks.

With QT, he makes the racists seem cool.
In Reservoir Dogs, Steve Buscemi's Mr. Pink is a very cool character.
Same with Eric Stoltz's drug dealer character in Pulp Fiction..
While somewhat minor players, these aren't throwaway characters or obviously bad people otherwise (well, except their professions lol). Mr. Pink isn't really even a minor character, he's a huge part of the film and, disturbingly, acts as the voice of reason throughout (in contrast to the more impulsive Mr. White and Mr. Blonde).
Worse still, Tarantino's racist characters' observations are probably credible to white people. There's nothing trope-ish or easily dismissed as invective about hearing Pink's (again, very rational otherwise) thief character relating that, in his experience, Black thieves are more aggressive towards one another.
This also reminds me of Goodfellas when Ray Liotta says that Black stick up men always get caught because they "fall asleep in the getaway car". There is no obvious trope that is easy to dismiss here; it's super specific and it sounds like first-hand knowledge.
Of course people should know to dismiss such observations as racist anyway, but that is probably harder to do the more people with credibility in their world are espousing them, and (cool) movie characters are authority figures to some degree.
