"Poll question: Why haven't you left the country left?"

Seriously, why haven't you left? The repubs are literally trying to strip America of Democracy. BillyBob and them are trying to take over the .... everything. Most of us are Black/Brown - it ain't looking good for us. These white folks know we are going to outnumber them soon and are trying to bake in a power advantage. There is a word for countries run by the minority....

On the other hand Remote work is popping, the American Dollar is strong and I see know reason not to get a good remote job in Black Brown country and live our black ass lives being comfortable amongst people who look like us.

So why are you still here?

Remote work, removes the "job" one.

go somewhere that speaks english "language' gone.

You're american money is gonna travel MUCH further almost anywhere you go, that'll go a long ways to helping to solve your housing issues, add in the fact you can catch an Airbnb almost anywhere on earth and housing gets sorted REAL quick.

I'm not saying it's cake, I am saying it's doable, very much so, and has it's advantages.

In response to Reply # 13

is something about WHERE an employee works that matters. I say this because I am a remote worker now. I live in Missouri. My employer is in Colorado. When They offered me the job the lady in HR mentioned that they were already “established” in Missouri. I think that has something to do with taxes. Anyway, I don’t think I can just work anywhere in the world. Like I can go somewhere for a couple weeks but if I just like MOVE, that’s gonna be a problem for my employer.

Figuring out what to take out, can be a bit tough, but nothing a conversation with their "already on the books CPA" wouldn't fix.

Also, you can use the ever useful "tax home" You have a house in Missouri? Cool, that's your tax home. You pay taxes there, you're a resident there, ignore the actual physical location of where you are.

The IRS doesn't care, and Missouri ain't gonna turn down the tax income.

and of course you could always just have your company pay you 1099 and then you handle the tax aspect.

There are work arounds.

I ain't leaving unless I have to leave. This is my home. Those other countries aren't mine.

And those black/brown countries are not going to embrace you as their own just because you think you look like them. You'd be an outsider. I doubt it will be as comfortable as you imagine. And likely not as comfortable as you're living now.

You're talking like this is Afghanistan and the Taliban is rolling into Kabul tomorrow. There's no imminent danger here. Life is good here, especially compared to the rest of the world.

To overthrow the government. Driven by the outgoing president and his supporters.
None of those in charge have even whiffed punishment.
Meanwhile said former president is issuing revenge threats and trying to prop up the more polite coup attempt and Republicans by an large are fine with it
And there are more than enough white people of all persuasions that would go along with the usurping of democracy, less they get uninvited to Thanksgiving.
This may be our home
But unless we plan to fight it won’t be for too much longer. It’ll be the place where our people were from.

I’m not being a twenty year old about this. Wherever we go we’ll have to work to live. And my stated goal for any move is to be able to live and not just survive.

It's important to be honest about where we are. There was an attempted coup. Not only was the ringleader not punished, HE IS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT AGAIN

and he will LIKELY receive his party's nomination. So, unless you are willing to FIGHT, like for real fight. I don't get the whole "This is my country." argument.

Are you gonna fight to keep it? Are you about that life? If you ain't, you should probably get ghost.

2). This is some Mickey Mouse stuff compared to the problems of many of the black/brown countries you are talking about fleeing to.

Im only four or five generations removed from the enslaved
They worked hard ass lives so we could have better at each step
Enslaved cropping begat sharecropping which begat a move towards the city which begat house cleaning and cafeteria work which led to my parents being born and raised in the Ps and trying the break the cycle of working to live to die
And they have to a degree
But they didnt raise me to be some kind of freedom fighter. I was taught this world is mine and to live it for myself.
I got two kids now. Not trying to have them beholden to this backwoods ass country that hates them.
If we gonna have to be around people that hate us at least let it be higher quality amenities than this shit.

I'm not sure you understand how wrong this is. He won't have to win. Republicans are slowly taking over local elections boards so that they can simply overturn any election with a result that doesn't serve their interests. If the House & Senate goes back to Republican control in 2022 midterms, the rest is history.

>2). This is some Mickey Mouse stuff compared to the problems

and how do you think those problems in those places got so bad in the first place? This country (along w/Britian, Russia and handful of others) is literally an evil empire of colonization, imperialism and destabilization.

I have no interest in continuing to call such a place my home regardless of whether i was born here or not. I'm not claiming it.

And to claim it as yours means you're complicit in the way US foreign and domestic policy has mass murdered all over the globe for centuries.

We’re closer to existential survival than most of us would like to admit
We’re surviving a pandemic, our communities being poisoned by water, sugar is in every fucking thing, they’re locking up the poorest of us, exploiting those that remain, the planet is heating while our blocks don’t have trees, almost none of us have wealth, some of us have small savings, nearly all of us are in debt, our health and usually security of our kids is tied to ever scare employment

And that’s all BEFORE the bonafide growing confederacy that wants to and is building up to murder en masse.

Have joy, have happiness, but that’s the fight for internal peace when there is an actual external fight to be had and most of us aren’t fighting that fight.

I dont need to convince anyone of anything. Its my views
But I’ve had the same message for literally years
You just continue to try to justify your happiness
Which hey, enjoy your shit, plenty of people do
But your fragile ego cant seem to handle someone criticizing something you like
You rally to the defense of awful shit before just thinking that maybe someone sees it a different way.
But to say that I would’ve advocated for slavery when you’re literally saying people should stay in this country today is such a wild contortion that I feel like youre fucking with me
That shit is lame.

In response to Reply # 89

Not one person in here is on the front lines of representational government, or writing or enacting laws, or on staffs of legislatures or court houses

So the fight to strip away rights and freedoms and changing the shape of today … nobody here is fighting

Meanwhile theres a growing militia and secessionist movement that is literally armed and training … nobody in here is training or prepping on how to defend themselves from that.

Joy, at this point in history, is a coping mechanism, but to call it a fight seems like the self delusion of the weak fo feel like they’re doing something.

Its not. No. Don’t bastardize what a fight is
Fights have opponents. Our opponents aren’t trying to take our joy. They’re trying to have us dead and/or subjugated
The fact that you can smile or persevere through that is a whole other thing. But a fight it is not.
Maybe its a struggle. But words have meanings

Things are looking good for brown people aka hispanics, latinos, latinx etc. They are a firmly entrenched buffer class that has the privilege of identifying as white literally. WE know white latinos so I'm not trying to hear sob stories from them including the chivo 2121 tier. Thought yall learned your lesson about this black and brown unity bs the dominant society pushed.

This land is my ancestral home so I'm not going anywhere despite the historical attacks on my community. We'll triumph over them here but if you want to leave by all means go.

Iono about all that, I live in the hood. I choose to live in the hood because it's cheaper, that's where I feel comfortable, and generally it's more convenient. I can be anywhere in the city I need to be in about 15 - 20 mins.

but I feel you. My other place is in a kinda rural area, although FAR from posh, by any standard.

true and Quebec is even harder. Having a remote U.S. job and living in someone else's house is the only way I could do it right now

I'd have to pass the French exam to even be considered, so I'm studying every day.

they are also working on their own plans to live outside the country

when Japan opens, the younger one (the photographer) will be trying to establish himself there...he already has a few models that want him to come shoot them there (his IG is @coloredshot..he's so dope)

the older one (the dancer) may stay in the U.S. for a while cuz he teaches, but he's a traveller and he speaks French...so he would either follow me here at some point or head to Europe

they both know I don't want them putting down any roots in this (or any) country that would disregard their young Black life as if it is nothing.

They already get harrassed by the police far too frequently for me (thank goodness they don't drive).

no matter where we are, we're always a plane ride away.

2. My dogs. One is old and it's a bitch getting them on a plane.

Im a restaurant guy. Im not confident any country has better food than Vegas or...anywhere I havent been domestically yet

Im also a big music guy who loves seeing my favorite acts perform live. LA is more of a priority for touring acts than another country

plus my utmost priority is paying my bills, not focusing on what's wrong with America

plus, it's a racist's dream for black people to leave. Im not giving them the satisfaction that easily

I feel like we really gotta move away from considering racists and/or white people AT ALL when making decisions. Fuck what they like, don't like, feel, think. I'm doing what's best FOR ME, regardless.

Fuck them.

The big-name chefs that have big restos there:

Gordon

Wolfgang
David Chang
Joel Roubouchon
Jose Andres

... almost always have the same or similar restos in other places. Vegas is a great culinary city... but it's not the best.

I was living in NYC and read a story about a company moving to Richmond from Manhattan and the people who transferred were shocked at the diverse cuisine

I think they said Richmond had more indian food spots than Manhattan or some wild stat.

Point being..

every city has great food if you know where to go. Vegas is prolly top of his list because its all right there on the strip.

I’m going to Vegas in November. Never been before.

Staying at the Cosmopolitan.

Been here for quite a few generations. 200+ years.

For me, this is home. I'd be moving away from almost all of my family.

Besides family, there's language/cultural barriers and money.

Tho... TBH if I had the money I'd be travelling around scouting for a potential new home.

shout out to niggas who got an American education, benefited from American infrastructure and stacked American currency, all of which their ancestors fought and died for, just to move to a country where they'll probably live way better than the native black/brown folk that have been living there for years.

Comfortable definitely. But amongst people who look like us? Word? lol

lol which parts? you mean the racist and unequal credit system? the mortgage that i can't even get? the college education that has me drowning in student loans (that is free in some other countries)?

and stacked American currency,

don't have shit stacked. i live paycheck to paycheck and i'm still getting the fuck out of here.

what if my ancestors wanted me to leave? do you know for sure?

just to move

if I want to, yes. I don't plan to stay anywhere forever. I will move when my spirit moves me. Home is wherever I am. The whole planet belongs to all of us.

It's around 200 countries altogether. We ain't the best education wise but we damn sure ain't the worst. Sooooo many countries is a stretch. Niggas in here ain't talking about moving to Switzerland or the Netherlands. They talking about moving to black/brown countries, often with the idea that since I'm broke over here in America then I'm gonna live like a king over in a country where black/brown folk are struggling.

>lol which parts? you mean the racist and unequal credit

I'm talking about shit that we have that other countries don't. Clean water, running water, decent schooling, electricity, so on and so forth. Again, I'm not saying shit is all good, but some of us have good credit, a mortgage and manageable student loans. It ain't all doom and gloom.
>

>what if my ancestors wanted me to leave? do you know for
>sure?

I don't. But considering most of us have our roots here, I'd bet $100 they did.

If it don't apply let it fly

I am fully convinced you have no fucking clue what you are talking about.

The mortgage system in Canada is actually worse and more friendly towards banks and creditors. Some American states actually have more protections from banks than all of Canada.

College is not free in Canada. There are subsidized loans

Canada has a credit score system similar to the United States.

Again, you're just moving. You're not saying "fuck America." You're just moving to Canada. You're not gangster

Talking about going to these black/brown countries and bringing with you the privilege that America gave you (good education, relatively high income, strong currency, etc) l. All to become the elite of those countries.

Y'all ain't going to be trying to live with the regular folks.

That's why I've been waiting to heat a sample if the countries y'all would be leaving to.

That someone making a life decision for themselves/their families that your response is to “reserve judgement” until wherever folks are settling meets your standards.

Imagine being so arrogant and entitled that you think that matters.

Hilarious.

ppl were in here asking what place is better and that's a bigger conversation, but as far as where I'm looking, that's easy

Just came back from PR, loved it, and would return
I'm looking at the Dominican
Belize
Vietnam
Thailand
Mazatlan, Mexico

That's my list. and that could change, shrink, grow, or completely switch up at any moment.

Now this is a new wrinkle, and a MUCH better argument. Honestly, tho I don't think my ancestors would begrudge me seeking out a better life, and if they do

oh well.

No, it's not, and THAT why we gotta wrestle with that shit, because making sure we hold space for the Blacks and Browns ALREADY living there, and not turn any space we step into into lil' America is important.

One way or the other. No shade, it's a trap we have collectively been in for FAR too long.

I'm looking at this shit as "what is best for me and mine?"

That is my only criteria.

fuck what a white person thinks, feels, does, has done, will do.....

Where we at? Where we going? How does that effect me?

Cause and effect, no less, no more.

But i've lived all over the world. Human beings are bad and horrific everywhere. Exploitation is bad everywhere. Black people do it to black people. Brown to brown. White to white. On the list of countries to live in, America is still in the top five of the list. Though other countries dont have to deal Kyrsten Sinema, so i might change my mind.

i'm not ok with the colonizing, imperialist, warmongering, oppressive zionist stench here.

i would like the opportunity to say 'I've lived all over the world', thank you very much.

In response to Reply # 123

....where none of those things you mentioned exist? Or, that aren't surrounded by countries that would quickly make those things exist in that country without protection. I don't say its bad all over the world so you might as well stay. I say if you move expecting the country you go to to be some peaceful utopia of equality, its not happening. If there humans there, bad shit will be there too. Ive been to enough countries to know that the majority of countries people rattle off when it comes to leaving, will be in for a shock once they settle in.

Why are yall so invested in telling people they're wrong about their life decisions?

It's such a weird phenomenon. To my knowledge, you all have no dog in the fight regarding whether anyone on this board decides to move abroad. Why such aggressive "I know better than you" pushback?

It's really kinda bizarre.

We're all discussing the question at hand.

I doubt anyone here is invested. It's just something relatively interesting to talk about. A rare sight nowadays

You literally stated above that you are "not ok with the colonizing, imperialist, warmongering, oppressive Zionist stench here." And you're moving to America Jr. That is a safe move. To a country with a system that is nearly identical to ours. That funds and supports Zionism, just like the US. That goes to war with us. And murdered and slaughtered its indigenous population, like America did. That is not a "fuck the system" move. You prove my point. You're moving to Euro-Centric comfort. In a country with a history just as brutal as ours. The Mounties on horses? Created for the sole purpose of herding, killing, and suppressing indigenous people in Canada. That's what i mean by "other countries you move to are just like America." You're not moving to Iran. You're moving to America Light.

I'm well aware of all this, therefore you point is irrelevant. Your ego is so wrapped up in your "point" that that's all you care about...to be right.

I don't give a fuck about that. Jerk off to being right, if you like

What I care about is, this is the first stop on a journey that will take me to many countries. I prefer Quebec as a starting point to explore the rest of the world and find where i fit or what fits with me.

There is no perfect country that is 100% absent of all the things I hate. There will be degrees though....some less than others.

So i'm fine with America Lite for now. Then I'll see where I'll go next and see how that is.

So fuck you.

Firstly, I'm not a guy. And I know exactly what I said and I meant exactly what I said. There is no new realization for me...the only realization is your insecure need to think that I'm mad or that you taught me something I didn't already know.

so if your ego needs that, have at it. It doesn't make a difference one way or the other. narcissists gonna narcissist.

I spent a vacation in the Guanacaste region.

MAN.

Loved it. If you get a chance, take a road trip up to Nicaragua. The place, the people.... BEAUTIFUL!

how are we received? Are we treated like Black royalty due to our money and American vibe or are we still looked at like “silly negroes, you just got lucky?”

if I ever left it would be for a place with Brown people but are we the gentrifiers?

anyone place where we show up and it feels like.. “welcome home!”

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

Americans in general (including black Americans) get treated well in my experience because they think you have money. In the DR, you will be treated better than a black Dominican and definitely better than a Haitian. In Europe, you will be treated better than an African-born Immigrant. That's my experience.

I cite this as an example of not blending into the local black brown population, but going to another country to not experience racism by being treated as an elite and being served by the local black brown population.
