with a photo of her and the new dude and the name of the bridge they were married on. No idea why the name of the bridge was important. what is weird is we never met this dude and have no idea what his name is….

But we know the name of the bridge.

She said it was a surprise and her kids didn’t know. Good luck with that..

lets just say it got real ugly.

For some reason my SIL blames her mom for sabotaging her happiness. No one else met this dude besides the MIL and the only reason we knew he existed is because her 7 and 9 year old daughters were telling complete strangers they were going to have a second daddy.

I’m like.. “you never really told us you were getting a divorce and you send me this photo?”

and she got married on my daughters birthday.. lmao.

Woman is weird af.

aka the "out of the blue" type of person, who just do things without telling those who you think are close to them, just doing random "spur of the moment" actions that seem big to others but to them it's not big deal.

All I can say is congratulations to her, I hope she didn't marry to keep some dude in the country or the guy is a closet psychopath.

through text but it was sabotaged.

Sabotaged?

wtf does that mean?

I think she was implying that we knew because someone told us.. and that she REALLY wanted to surprise us. Which is crazy af to me since she never told us she was officially divorced from her husband.

*Sigh*

Every fiber in my being feels this is the wrong decision...even asked her to attend 2 years of college as a compromise, then join...or at least go in as an officer. Nope, she wants to go the enlisted route. Said she'll stay for 4-6 years (depending on contract), then go to school. Yeah, okay. And even if she does, it will be harder for her to go to school and work. She gave a bunch of reasons why she's joining, which I believe are BS, and is adamant in her decision.

I'm scared for my baby, but I will support her.

I'd send her into boot w/a little training tho. Maybe have her hit her local Jiu Jitsu place for a couple of months before she goes in.

I'll think about the jiu-jitsu training. Part of me wants her to go in cold so she'll hate it faster, but once she signs the contract, it's on.

She loves staying up late, hates getting up early, doesn't really like authority, outspoken...everything the military will tell her to do, she hates. But at least she chose Navy vs Army or Marines.

We had everything set up where she could go to college nearly debt free, but once she signs that contract, she's no longer a dependent and can't use our benefits. Ugh. Gotta figure out what to do about this 529...I don't know if she can use it even if she isn't our dependent. I think she can, just gotta confirm.

I hope and pray she succeeds and is healthy, happy and financially comfortable. Told her if she rocks it, she can gloat about it two times, max.

I'll never forget it, we were all 18 and talking about college in that weird summer that's right after high school graduation. We were still doing kid bullshit while also being aware of adulthood coming towards us.

One day that summer dude just said, "Aight, I'mma be out, I thought about it, I'm applying to the Airforce. Peace ya'll"

We were wigged out but supported him.

By 20 he was living it up on the AFB.

By 24 he had already purchased his first house. He made it the party house and charged friends rent.

By 26 dude was married and traveling the world.

By 29 he was in Japan on his second kid.

Every time I see dude he's doing something interesting, living somewhere interesting. Total lifer.

My uncle, who is a legit crazy anti-vaxxer, has been in the ICU and on a ventilator for weeks.

My aunt, also an anti-vaxxer, is listening to the doctor's advice and plans to unplug the ventilator on Friday. So my uncle only survives if he can breath on his own - which is very unlikely.

But: Other family members are MAD at the doctor for being "callous" by saying that my uncle is in pain and there's no hope for recovery.

Confession: I agree with the doctor.

He's uncle by marriage, my aunt is his wife.

That ENTIRE side of the family is un-vaxxed so we can't even go to the funeral because of the increased risk. My mother wants to go spend time with her sister, but too risky for her. (My mom had chemo/cancer last year.)

I hope they don't spread COVID at the funeral.

It's a bad situation.

I'm glad my mom is diligent about getting hers. she just got her booster yesterday.

my cousin's situation got better as in no one at the house has covid now. she's still pregnant and unvaxxed from what I know. said she's getting it, but I hadn't heard that she has. nor or bf who gave it to her.

wife: we need a second car right NOW. I'm pulling the trigger on this $700 per month obligation.

me: the fuck we are...lets think about it.

hours and hours later, we found something nice and right, but its one of those everyone-loves-it-&-no-one-ever-sells-it models which would be challenging in a normal world (they hold value like hell), but with the carpocalypse, it's like....good fucking luck if you want to buy something relatively quickly.

So if the monthly payments are around $700 a month what will the insurance costs be like on this vehicle?

In response to Reply # 36

Average car cost is now: $32,903

If you put $0 down and get a %2.99 rate then over 60 months your payment is $591.

$33 grand is a mid tier Honda Accord.

So $40k is around $700 a month.

That's pretty average, not deluxe.

Makes me sad because I'd like a new luxury whip too.

I'm so glad mine is paid off. I'ma be mad at $700.00 per month.

Ok, this is what I did.

I walked into the dealer, around 2 hrs before closing on the LAST day of the month.

I walked away with the deal of the century.

Also, I know I don't have to tell you to avoid BRAND new. It's a waste.

Enterprise sells cars, you can get a great deal on a close to new, well maintained car there.

Good luck.

In response to Reply # 40

right now.
I'm talking....3 year old cars that cost within $500 - $1000 of the price of the same vehicle BRAND NEW.

It's not logical...but it's the current reality. And it's going to be this way until who knows when....some say when the chip shortage subsides...
Bottom line is that there is a LOT of used inventory that was purchased at wholesale auction at seriously inflated prices...and until THAT inventory is exhausted....a brand new car could very well be a better buy when you factor in Reliability, Lower interest rate on brand new vs. used cars, inventory, etc..

The Toyota dealer by my house has maybe 12-20 new cars on the lot, where they'd normally have HUNDREDS. They have around 2 dozen used cars out there too.

It looks out of business.

Pump your brakes...because yes you can...but it's gonna be at least 5 years old and gonna have some miles on it...and that's rarely a good buy for a luxury vehicle when you factory in maintenance and cost of ownership and the unknown habits of the previous owner... It's a risk.

they had 2016 Civics (same trim) with 50k miles going for $21,000 -- 3 years later

how TF is a regular Civic going to appreciate in value

took a DNA test just for their own knowledge? Regular people out here taking them all the time finding out they daddy aint they daddy. I wonder what they would have to go though to get the answer - it would have to be a very private method in their case because if the media got wind of it they would be all over that story.

Sister's Fall formal ball at the end of the month.
They have all sorts of crazy restrictions as to the style and color, so I'm severely limited, not to mention my budget and size limits...
I hate everything.

I'm about 4 days away from saying eff it, and making the daggone dress myself. Can't be worse than the stuff I'm seeing online.
