"We’re really heading towards a government shutdown"

And the reason it’s not all over the news is because corporate vultures are trying to see what carcasses they can feed on as ribs get to touching.

Spain had a shutdown for over a year, things were okay. I think it would be different here.

she aint even trying to pretend she has any specific policy concerns. just flat out obstruction after reneging on the previous agreement between house/senate dems on infrastructure/reconciliation.

she has a 17% approval rating among democratic voters in arizona and the arizona democratic party passed a resolution by over 80% of its members to pledge a vote of no confidence if she doesnt support the biden agenda.

she clearly has no intention on continuing her political career as a democratic senator from arizona past her 1st term. i guess the end game is to skate off into a cushy lobbying/consulting job, running as an indie to kneecap another dem senate win in az in 2024, or whatever her corporate donors want her to do.

Outside of the nuisance he is at the moment and the power he's flexing because he's fairly contrarian to typical Democratic wants and needs, he does have to serve the interests of his state, which isn't that left leaning.

As annoying as he as been, his stances make some sense given who he is governing for.

He is serving the interests of people who want to enrich themselves, him, and his family.

You're correct that those people are not left-leaning, however. Nice job on that.

Manchin looks like he isn't backing down. Says $1.5 trillion is his max for the reconciliation bill. That ain't gonna fly with everyone else.

Progressives in Congress say no infrastructure without reconciliation. So...

Reconciliation bill: dead
Infrastructure bill: dead

At this point, I would be happy with the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill and $1.5 trillion reconciliation package but it looks like it is all or nothing for the Democrats and nothing is going to win.

the recon bill will obviously be trimmed down from the original price tag.

sinema was talking big shit about how she was gonna walk away if the standalone infrastructure bill wasnt voted on by sep 27. now shes just whining about shit but notably dropped any threat to walk away. basically she was bluffing to try to get dems/biden to separate the bills.

is broken at this point. You either have to be consistent with your principles and give up any chance at consensus or getting any meaningful legislation passed (democrats), or be completely inconsistent with your stated principles by agreeing to party consensus over everything, which means outright making up facts and lying (republicans).

Any nuance in the middle seems to be completely lost within the processes of the current political landscape...

Yep. Twisting data and pointing to 'the other side's' issues is what it comes down to. Basically, what will people believe? Let's roll with that. Even if it isn't true at all? What if we were just on the other side of the argument 2 weeks ago?

Let's roll. We have 2 week break starting Tuesday. We don't have time for your morals. We need to be reelected. Making the opponent lose > trying to win on our own merits.

each other tooth and nail over every nuance - whether right or wrong. Sometimes because of corporate interests. Sometimes because they are racist and actually very similar to the conservative side. Sometimes because they are true progressives who have strong ideals. Sometimes because they just want to keep getting elected so they go with whatever their base says. But right or wrong, they have a trouble making concessions to each other to get on the same page as a party, when means in the end they end up making concessions as a group to the GOP who always end up on the same page with each other.

The GOP have no concern at all about saying one thing and doing another. So they might start out with many of the same above differences, but they will fall in line to wield their power as a group, and in general will have each other's backs regardless of right and wrong, and that keeps them as individuals in power...
