"RIP Andrea Martin one of my favorite modern songwriters"
I had the pleasure of working with her a couple of times in NY, and she was wild and cool as shit. She always bigged up IHOP and stayed mispronouncing my name, the way she wrote songs is she went into the booth and refused to hear the beat(s) beforehand - she just freestyled straight to tape as she heard the instrumentals for the first time and picked the bits and segments she liked afterwards and put words to it
My favorite songs by her is probably «Wish I Didn't Miss You» by Angie Stone (one of my all time favorite soul/R&B songs), and «Don't Let Go» by En Vogue
Loved her, admired her, and endless respect due. RIP Andrea Martin <3

Fun thing about that song is the vocals were floating around for a good while, several producers (incl a couple of guys I know) took shoots at producing the song. Horn arrangements, strings, throwback R&B versions, there were several attempts from a bunch of people cos A%Rs were really feeling the song itself and wanted to make it happen.
Then Switch did this, no music whatsoever just the huge kick and the almost BMORE house ish drums, and everybody was like OH okay lmao
Honestly this song still gives me goosebumps, its so raw with just her awesome vocals and the drums

Ah man.. didn't even know the vocals existed already. This record solidified Switch as one of the most innovative producers of this era imo (along with Major Lazer - Get Free).
But yea diva vocals and his crazy interpretations of Afro Beat and Dancehall made for a perfect match.
