They brought in one for work today to demo. I was waiting for some whir whir noise and NOPE. The "feet" don't even click on concrete. Completely silent.

It’s sitting quietly under a window listening to criminals brag about crime or it’s shot a laser between your eyes in your sleep on some sneaky Skynet shit.

the amount of people who are genuinely scared of a robot uprising never ceases to amaze me. i used to think it was just a lame joke people would always make whenever some news about robots came out. after talking with some family/friends/coworkers about it, cats are LEGIT scared of robot AI coming for them.

Drones can hit you from miles away and you never even know they're in the space. Something like this could be used as a silent weapon in close proximity. This thing can be guided to creep in your house and room completely undetectable. That's insane. I think you underestimate the damage something like this can do in the hands of any police department in the country.

but real talk...I think you are underestimating how quickly AI is advancing... it's not that far fetched. And aside from AI, MEAT's points are super valid. So

companies owning it don't fully understand it. Combine that with the sheer amount of data that corporations have on us, and loose regulations on what corporations can do, along with a capitalist society, and eventually you can easily see how AI would start making some tough decisions "for the calculated benefit of society"...

BD just released a video of their robots doing parkour and the big whoop was about how the robot didn't need programming to recognize the variance in the steps. It used sensors and read the course independently.
Fast forward 10 yrs from now...yeah. And it'll move fast.
Even if the AI doesn't become self aware or flawed in its application of action (which there will be racial bias in any of it's info consumption), having the tech be controlled by the rich and governments won't lead to good things likely. Jussayin'

through a partnership with Boston Dynamics. After strolling one of these robots out during search through some public housing projects, the contact was yanked and the robot was returned because of public uproar.
I wonder if there are other local police departments that have these but keep it on the low.
