"Is it possible for a significant other to make you happy?"

open ended question, interpret it however you want

Two women in my life recently approached the topic with very different variations of "not really"

one is jaded, the other is kind of overly analytical

It is highly possible that someone can be a part of what helps you 'be happy'.

BUT

No one can force you to be happy if you aren't happy within yourself.

And if you're dedicated to focusing on unhappiness, no other person can fix that for you either. And sadly, I have a feeling that a bunch of people are being pushed, pulled, and dragged into focusing on the negative in everything. It can happen to anyone because life can be hard. But some folks? Shiiiiid, I don't know how anyone can bother with them in any real doses.

getting an SO you REALLY want (I'm pretty sure the ladies you spoke to had "ordinary" type partners in mind)

If the SO is someone you REALLY wanted, then that will make you happy but....for how long?

The "how long" depends on a lot of factors

And while I don't think a significant other can MAKE you happy, per se, they CAN open you up to ways of living that will make you happy...so...kinda?

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

she can lighten my load and make me feel better but ultimately i gotta get to the root of my own shit. she can certainly help me with that journey but that still narrows down to me figuring out why im a miserable POS and solving that equation.

..That said, expecting happiness to come from anywhere other than within is a fool's dream.

Even if emotional validation is confirmed by someone else, it still starts with you and your ability to choose happiness overall.

If you love your SO there should be a sense of happiness that comes with sharing that love. It does not mean you will be happy 24 / 7 but if there is no sense of happiness then you should question the love.
