"Anyone watching 9/11: One Day in America on NatGeo?"

It's so well put together. A mix of raw footage and personal stories.

There's so much footage on here I've never seen before. Some crazy shots.

I’m watching episode one now, and it seems like the elevators not being operable caught the firefighters off guard. So it makes me wonder, is there now a plan for how to reach higher floors of the sky scrapers when the elevators are inoperable without taking the stairs?

Through 3 episodes
Really appreciate his approach
The first 2 eps (4parts) were very cinematic with the buildup, climax and epilogue
Real tears
EP3 had the 911 footage, and I was very surprised that it elicited the same reaction
I was paralyzed on my couch in shear awe .. which is exactly how the rest of that week played out for me
Still really hard to go through
I'll watch the final ep on Saturday

If you want to hear from the folks on the ground, this is probably more for you
I'd rather not see extensive replays of the tragedy

and on labor day, with the U.S. seemingly having found a new respect for essential workers, feels like a full circle event

that one maintenance worker responsible for cleaning over a hundred flights of stairs and had a master key is an icon

(this show was also upped in What else are we watching?)

there are definitely some parts that are difficult to watch. in fact, I had to turn it off and go back to it the next day. It’s painful to watch but very well done, our healthcare community doesn’t get enough credit. These last few years have made me question my faith in humanity, but seeing these interviews and also the protests around the world at the end gave me some hope.

That Waka quote in the first part of ep 1 made me so angry I shut it off
There's a climax in the first 2 eps...where I started to cry...and had to take a break
I vividly remember one being tied to a song with the montage thing Spike does...don't want to spoil it as I think it was ep 2

Let me know what you think when you're done...the contrast of 911/2021 definitely hit me...different

Edge of my seat. Bit numb by 4, so it was nice to start getting some uplifting, positive stories amid all the pain at that point

I can't imagine staring that plane right in my face as I look out the window, that's nightmare fuel.

Jesus. The first thing that stood out to me is how insane it is that this footage exists. It was like a live first person view of the events unfolding. The grim details, the sound of people hitting the ground/building. Fuck. Extremely well done though, stitching together all these stories, audio, and video that's been collected. Especially considering that camera phones weren't really a thing yet in 2001.

the possible gas leak and the first plane comes through…it’s SO loud. It literally goes right over their heads. I know they hear tons of planes go overhead, but even they had to think…fuck, this plane is close!

about the lead up to 9/11 and how it was absolutely completely preventable by the Clinton and Bush administrations.

I've been watching it in chunks, its a lot to take in.

I was in California when it happened, but, the first job I took in NYC 7 years ago was in the new WTC 7 so I was close to the center of it all daily for about 2 years. I've been working in mid-town for the past 5 years in a pretty dry corporate place - but here's the thing, a good amount of these people around me lived through it, that day changed the game for everyone.

the part that has been hitting me in waves is the humanity of the people. Like, before, when I was a young man watching the event unfold, it was a horrible event that scared us all. Now, I think all of that, AND there is a level of horror to it because I'm now 40 and a dad and married and I work in the city (well, I DID before we switched to a 4/5 wfh set up) and the thought of being faced with jumping or burning or knowing my wife was watching my place of work burning or falling and not knowing if I'm ok, or the thought of realizing that I'm fucked, definitely going to die and completely unable to say goodbye or tell my family that I love them one last time is....ugh, god.

Our office is exactly like one of the hundred businesses in the old WTC so now I can totally imagine all of our physical shit just blowing in the wind like everything else on that day.

I will never consider myself a New Yorker, but, I've been slowly coming to understand how that day changed people. At least at my job, I've started to be able to pick up on a vibe some folks have who've lived through it. They have a dark humor / snarkiness to them.

For anyone who thought they knew everything there was to know about 9/11. I’m mostly talking about myself haha

When I have kids and they want to learn about 9/11 I’ll probably point them to this joint
