"Rihanna is now officially a billionaire"

https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/04/business/rihanna-billionaire-forbes/index.html

Robyn "Rihanna" Fenty is officially a billionaire, according to Forbes.

The business magazine, which tracks and publishes data on the world's wealthiest individuals, on Wednesday reported the 33-year-old pop star's estimated net worth to be $1.7 billion, making her the wealthiest female musician and the second-richest woman in entertainment behind Oprah Winfrey.

It's been five years since the "bad gal" from Barbados dropped a new album — her 2016 instant classic "Anti" spent 63 weeks on the Billboard charts. Instead she's dedicated her time to building her business empire through her Fenty Beauty makeup line and her Savage x Fenty lingerie line.

Forbes estimates Fenty Beauty alone is worth $2.8 billion. In 2018, the makeup brand, which is sold at Sephora stores, was generating more than $550 million in annual revenues, earning more than Kim Kardashian West's KKW Beauty, Kylie Jenner's Kylie Cosmetics and Jessica Alba's Honest Company, the magazine reported.

Historically, women's fashion and beauty brands have perpetuated Eurocentric and often unrealistic standards of beauty. One of the keys to Rihanna's success has been marketing products to women of all shapes, sizes and skin shades, according to Shannon Coyne, cofounder of Bluestock Advisors, a consumer products consultancy.

"She was one of the first brands that came out and said 'I want to speak to all of those different people,'" Coyne told Forbes. "A lot of women felt there were no lines out there that catered to their skin tone. It was light, medium, medium dark, dark. We all know that's not reality."

Forbes reported that Rihanna also owns 30% of Savage x Fenty, which raised $115 million in February after receiving a $1 billion valuation. LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault and rapper Jay Z are also principle investors in the lingerie brand.

A spokesperson for Rihanna declined to comment.

She wasn't swindled... she just didn't realize she needed every sponsorship $ possible to pay for her music career to become a star.

Her managers did everything in their power to make sure she had to best songs even when the label barely believed in her money making power with record sales.

Shit Kanye by himself put 1 million dollars of his own money into her show during Glow In The Dark to up-level everything she was doing at that point.

My girl definitely swears by the quality and sizing of her products as well.

Hard to hate on a woman that I'd holler at even if she was Rihanna that worked at Target.

Some *hate*:
She does have *that* look tho, like she might throw a platinum frying pan with an ivory handle at you if the argument gets too heated.

Re: billionaires, there may have been someone on the extreme “all billionaires are bad”, and others on “the capitalist system that creates billionaires is bad” and others that don’t care at all.

When you hear loud people on one side of an issue on a thread, and then different loud people on the opposite side of an issue in a different thread, that doesn’t mean there’s a contradiction, unless there’s a specific individual loud on both sides - and in that case call them out and not all of GD.

I'm not talking Abt here

On the wider internet tho...it's a thing

Vast majority of people of course are treating Rihanna different than say...Bezos.

But some doctrinaire economic theory socialist twitter types are defn on that no one should be a billionaire shit

I disagree once again because someone is going to say I'm on that bullshit and no matter how often I say I'm not it won't matter but it is a thing

Bezos at around 200 billion vs. someone just joining the billionaire club like Rihanna. Especially considering the power that Bezos has with Amazon controlling most of the internet, the global supply chain, all the low paid employees, etc.

To be honest though - I’m definitely happy about anyone Black joining the rank of billionaire money. Yea I’m sure there’s some bad stuff somewhere in her supply chain, but I’m not about to be comparing her to a Bezos.

Are there credible claims of her underpaying her workers/treating them poorly?

Is her company responsible for creating large amounts of pollution/affecting climate?

People like Jeff Bezos, the Family that owns walmart, etc you can point to clear examples of them mistreating their workers and overall bringing down the quality of life of the communities they operate in.

If there's evidence of Rhianna or anybody else doing this, then yea I got a problem

Billionaires do not exist without exploitation of labor. Period.

Rhianna made most of her money off beauty products, which is obviously an industry rife with exploitative practices.

It means you are either:

Not paying enough taxes
Underpaying your workers
Exploiting someone's labor
Exploiting labor laws in some other country

or a whole host of other shit

No sorry, not impressed

people wanted to squawk at the money figure questions but at what point does it become "hoarding wealth"? if you are running a 50-100M company as ethically as possible and not cheating on taxes, not running sweat shops etc, as the company grows at what threshold does it go bad if you continue with the same practices?

and this is no snark im trying to understand this logic im seeing in this thread

And there's all kinds of proposals for what to do with every cent over that threshold, whether it's given to charities, put back into the work force that built that person's wealth, automatically collected as state and federal tax, etc.

But the basic idea is, if you've got $999,999,999, let's just let you have that pin that says you're a billionaire and get to work helping everybody else get their teeth fixed.

Edit: I don't really have a stake in this, other than my relationship with money is the kind where if I had $1.5 million in hand, I'm pretty damn sure I could stretch that the rest of my life without any complaints. So I really don't understand hoarding 100x that amount.

And if so, is there a tangible difference in ethics between how she handles business and how Rihanna does? Does it matter if B's husband is classified as a billionaire but she isn't?

I totally get being against the capitalist system that makes billionaires. I also get that some billionaires like Bezos are out here doing actual harm in how he controls the supply chain, how he pays his workers, etc.

But I REALLY don't get being okay with Rihanna last week when she was worth hundreds of millions of dollars, but calling her a "class enemy" this week because Forbes decided her net worth is now over one billion.

Beyonce makes a decent amount of money on clothing and beauty products. There are almost certainly workers being underpaid or outright exploited in her products' supply chain.

and also focusing on the actions in place with the industries making them money, and not some magical threshold where someone is all good at 999 million but as soon as their net worth hits a billion they become evil.

To that point, this is an issue with capitalist society, along with corporations influencing policy throughout the globe.

But yeah - anyone making millions from the cosmetics and fashion definitely has some exploitation in the supply chain. The companies try to insulate themselves from this in some ways with factories that are contracted through other companies, and using vendors for distribution, but if you’re both producing and distributing worldwide it’s absolutely there.

Jakob Fugger was probably richer than all of these present goofballs grinding children's thumbs to dust in order to suck the world hollow, and he was so scared of God that he built a town where poor people could live for (almost) free as long as they promised to pray for his soul in purgatory three times daily. It's still a requirement.

He was a monster who helped create the exploitative hellscape that grips not only our lives but, judging from this grim thread, our imaginations too. But at least he knew what he was.

Here’s Rihanna’s Perfect Response To Her New Billionaire Status

Hilary Weaver

Sun, September 5, 2021, 7:00 AM

We all know by now: Rihanna is a billionaire. Per Forbes, she is estimated to be worth $1.7 billion.

That sum makes her the wealthiest female musician in the world and the second-wealthiest female entertainer (Oprah tops the list).

When a paparazzo came up to her on the street and asked what it meant to her to be a “self-made billionaire,” she had a simple answer.

We all know by now: Rihanna is a billionaire. Per Forbes, she is estimated to be worth $1.7 billion. That sum makes her the wealthiest female musician in the world and the second-wealthiest female entertainer (Oprah tops the list).

When a paparazzo came up to her on the street and asked what it meant to her to be a “self-made billionaire,” she had a simple answer, per Billboard: “God is good.”

Although RiRi is known for her music, the majority of her net worth ($1.4 billion of it) can reportedly be attributed to her beauty company, Fenty Beauty. Her lingerie line, Savage x Fenty, is worth $270 million.

For years, fans have been asking Rihanna where her next album, R9. She has admitted to teasing her fans about the album (and getting a kick out of it).

“To be continued,” Rihanna told Entertainment Tonight at the end of 2019, in reference to her album. “I like to antagonize my fans a little bit. Well, they antagonize me, too! So, they get it right back.”

In a June 2019 conversation with Sarah Paulson for Interview magazine, Rihanna spoke about how she’d learned to prioritize her mental health amidst so much happening in her career.

“It’s only the last couple years that I started to realize that you need to make time for yourself, because your mental health depends on it,” she told her Oceans 8 co-star. “If you’re not happy, you’re not going to be happy even doing things that you love doing. It’d feel like a chore. I never want work to feel like a chore. My career is my purpose, and it should never feel like anything other than a happy place.”

For now, she seems happy enjoying life with her boyfriend, A$AP Rocky, with whom she was seen smiling in ripped denim shorts and a fuzzy baby pink bucket hat this week in NYC.

It’s great to be Rihanna.

Rihanna on Her Latest Lingerie Collection and Becoming a Billionaire

The most recent Savage x Fenty show, which will be broadcast on Friday, isn’t all she has been up to.

By Sandra E. Garcia

Sept. 23, 2021

LOS ANGELES — Rihanna’s “Savage x Fenty Show Vol. 3” features the superstar and several of her very hot friends in cheeky, lacy pieces from the new collection of her lingerie line.

The fashion show-concert extravaganza, which was recorded in the late summer at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles, will be available on Prime Video on Friday.

Joining her this year were the models Alek Wek and Gigi Hadid; the singer Troye Sivan; the ballroom queen Leiomy Maldonado; and the singer Erykah Badu, good vibes O.G., among others. Nas, Jazmine Sullivan, Normani and a few surprise guests performed.

Rihanna, 33, said she was committed to continue prioritizing inclusivity with the new line.

“I love people that are confident and people that want to represent their space in this world,” Rihanna said in an interview, wearing a lime green bedazzled hooded sweatshirt and miniskirt with a pink peekaboo thong. “That’s what the show is all about: representation.”

Rihanna also wants men to be able to see themselves in her lingerie collection. Not just the six-pack sporting type, but all shapes, races and sizes. She added that she feels men are often overlooked when it comes to inclusion, and she wants to change that.

Earlier this month, she spent days at the Westin rehearsing for the taping and editing, wearing — what else? — lingerie. Her favorite pieces from the collection are a corset, a bodysuit and a teddy.

“It depends on the day, so, of course, a corset is always good for obvious reasons. Snap-snap-snap,” she said, imitating the buttons coming undone. “A teddy is flirty — it’s fun and easy to get off.”

But does the rapper ASAP Rocky, whom she brought as a date to this year’s Met Gala, favor the same pieces from the collection?

“That’s none of your business,” Rihanna said.

Like many of us, Rihanna has been stuck at home for much of the last year, but her net worth has skyrocketed to $1.7 billion, according to an estimate by Forbes. Outside of the Savage x Fenty lingerie line, her empire also includes her skin care line, Fenty Skin, and her makeup line, Fenty Beauty.

But before any Rihanna fans ask: Yes, she says she is working on new music and, no, she doesn’t know when she will be ready to drop it.

“You won’t even know what to expect!” she said.

She wants to use her fortune to benefit her Clara Lionel Foundation, named after her grandparents Clara and Lionel Braithwaite. The organization provides funding for emergency responses to natural disasters caused by climate change, as well as education initiatives for marginalized communities.

“Every dollar I make, I want to give it back,” Rihanna said. “When it comes to people who need help, it hurts when I can’t do as much as I want, so now we’re just putting our foot down and C.L.F. is about to grow in a way that I’m really proud of.”

Her new status as a billionaire is something that was never her goal, and she isn’t quite comfortable with it yet, she said.

“It’s tricky because it’s hard to even accept that’s where you’re at because I know where I’ve come from,” said Rihanna, who was born and raised in Barbados. “At the same time, it feels good to be able to inspire young women and boys, who like me, come from humble beginnings, who come from parents who are immigrants or who are immigrants themselves, to be able to do this.”
