"Jacksonville rap war is demoralizing "

Its an epidemic of rappers killing each other which isn't news or new but is hella sad

This permutation of it tho...just overboard.

Comparison

Yea you would have people getting beat up/stabbed but you didn't have people DYING at the rate they currently are

This current trend of trying make the most disrespectful tracks about your dead Opps as possible is a recipe for disaster

Are these fools even signed to labels?

For a song (“Who I Smoke”) that is taunting by name and mocking the deaths of a bunch of murdered children, then getting self-righteous about people who criticized her for it. SMH.

behind a ton of the shootings last summer in Brooklyn

Social media just sets the fire burning hotter because dudes shoot and then taunt, and the pressure is put on the target of that to respond.

The fact that there is real money behind the success of new songs that include direct reference to victims of violence kind of reinforces the negative trend.

Though I feel like I've been seeing a lot of articles of crime stories that begin with "Rapper wanted for X shooting"

Edit: Did a quick google search and see that its one gang called ATK vs. another gang called KTA and all I can think of was this:

Some video editor made that title in after effects, so it could pop up and emphasize the name of the real murdered black child whose death they’re celebrating— “Bibby”. (Aces friend and frequent musical collaborator Ksoo is facing trial for this murder).

And Vanessa Carlton licensed the sample for the song, and is presumably making royalties off the pain this is inflicting on those young men’s families, while her Twitter profile continues to read, yep, BLM.

Other than the beat, I can't see what would be the appeal . It seems too personal/specific.

Like are people singing along with the chorus saying the dead folks names and everything?

There wasn’t much that was relatable about that. The vicious stuff about Tim Dog and Eazy was appealing to my 12 year old self because of how real and vibrant it was, even tho I didn’t know about the subjects. It endeared me to the narrator because somehow that outre machismo felt liberating.

Those diss tracks were more like watching two people roasting each other. It's entertaining to see who can make the best diss even if you don't know the people involved.

This is on a whole different level. I'm just imagining a club playing this song with the DJ dropping the beat out and the crowd yelling some dead kid's name smh

And they were actually rapping.

This is more like being an asshole over a beat than rapping. Their “flows” (if you can call them that) are terrible. It’s like they can’t hear the beat.

17. "Question is how'd we get from Pac/Biggie "never again" to this?"
In response to Reply # 0

After Pac/Biggie died, the hip-hop community was adamant that something like that should and would never happen again.

High profile rap beefs after that (Jay/Nas, Game/50, Cam/JJ) never even had a hint of turning violent for real.

Now cats are getting smoked like it's no thang. It's almost expected. It's troubling.

Did the oldheads drop the ball?

I bet this kids don't know nothing about the biggie - tupac beef.

It would be nice to see an OG step up and make these boys sit down and squash the beef.

Uncle Luke? Rick Ross? IDK.

Same as violence happening in the neighborhood. People complain and cry about it, but don't know where their kids are on a school night.

This shit ain't croppin' up outta nowhere. No OG's to be found?

THAT hip hop community is over 40. They aren't these 12-18 yr olds currently out here getting it.

Social Media was a paradigm shift for the hood.

Anyone remember the digital divide? that shit is long gone. Smart Phones leap frogged that whole thang but w/o a roadmap.

We can't act like violence is worse than the 90s. But it is extremely more visible. While reading up on this a cop made a good point.

Social media and rap songs are the new graffiti...

gang members, drug dealers and everyday people have been killing each other over money, turf, women or (perceived) disrespect since forever

rapping about it isnt comfortable or "okay", but a percentage of black Americans are in survival mode facing a socioeconomic crisis, and that's a bigger issue than songs about it

hell, the crunk era was practically commanding niggas to harm each other

My students have literally fought and been murdered outside of school over these dumb ass rap beefs, which are tied to neighborhood beefs as well. I lose about two to three students per year to murder. Another four to five to prison. Our school only has about 120 per year on average.

here are two more options:

- "you're old and panicking" applied equally across the board to a guy typing about it and a guy in the eye of the storm

- "you're old and panicking" just applied to people only typing about it and you're being as lame/bored as Buddy Gilapogos trying to get replies out of me

In response to Reply # 0

NY has passed (or is passing a law) that wouldn't allow courts to look at rap lyrics in a trial.

https://www.thefader.com/2022/05/18/new-york-senate-rap-lyrics-in-court

I get that when it comes to like general boasting and shit talking that goes in rap lyrics. Way to prejudicial.

But if someone is getting sentenced for murdering someone and there is a song where that same person is bragging about the murder or laughing at their death, I think that's something that should be taken into consideration.

Meaning if there is something specific that is stated in the lyrics that are relevant, it should be allowed.
