kinda disappointing. It's not bad, it's okay. I think she rushed it trying to capitalize on the success of the UTFA.

The album is almost all slow cuts. And they have a strong roster of heavy hitters on there. It's alright. It's straight but nothing really knocked me out on the 1st listen.

I'd say Usher, Heather Headley & the Sounds of Blackness songs stood out for me.

I'll give it a few more spins though.

I think you mentioned back then also that you had been telling people about him lol I remember I was also blown away by it when I first heard it. Maybe didn't have as much replay value but put him right on my map.

I kind of expected a let down with his new album but nah he improved. Hopefully it has more replay value for me. Definitely a contender for AOTY right now.

Vince has a classic in him, but he always leans away from that for some reason. I think he's so cynical that he knows they say "short songs are in right now because... playlists, tik tok attention spans" so he's like, okay we're gonna do short songs. If his interviews are to be believed, he just kinda sees music as a means to an end, and as long as that's his view... he'll probably continue to be entertaining but... light.

because of all this (well-stated, btw) but specifically his "making music is my job" attitude. there's nothing wrong with that approach but a classic is unlikely to be the product of that mindset. classics are borne of unpaid OT and coming in early and on off days, not M-F 9-5. maybe he's putting in the extra work but the music i've heard from him doesn't feel like it has that additional effort put into it. but i tend to think his press tours and interviews are more interesting than his music so i might not have the best perspective on his musical output. i think he still hasn't found the right producer. maybe he eventually links up with someone (or a set of someones) that best suits his particular voice and he delivers a really special project

His music always seems to be "fine" to me. Nothing I ever want to keep going back to but don't have an urge to skip.

I liked the production on this but don't think I'll revisit it much.

They all bump for the 30 seconds they play on an insecure scene.

I do like “law of averages” from this album- but another insecure-y song

This shit is really incredible lyrically. But Vince's delivery does not give you the feeling they should with these words. I'm even more convinced he could make a classic album if he worked with the right producer(s) and rapped like he cared about what he's saying.
