"The OTHER grocery store in your neighborhood (you don't normally go to)"

I have 1 grocery store I do most of my shopping at - Vons.

I know the price ranges, which brands to expect, what goes on sale, and I feel really comfortable there.

But occasionally I'll go to the OTHER store in my neighborhood, which is Keils.

They have crazy brands I've never heard of. Somethings are wildly more expensive - and some are cheaper. the bakery is better, but the soda selection is worse.

I always buy something - but rarely do I complete my entire shopping job there.

Are you loyal/more comfortable in one grocery store, or is this just me??

We would go to this store for bread. That store for meat. Another store for rice. Across town for veggies.

Then Super Walmart came into town and crushed buildings. One stop.

But I don't have any sort of loyalty to any.

But often enough, I'll split up my shopping to multiple stores, because prices can often vary wildly for certain products.

Sprouts is great for inexpensive produce, but meat can be absurd sometimes. So I hit Stater Brothers for that. Walmart Neighbordhood Market for things like milk, eggs, cereal, anything frozen, etc.

I like WinCo for the latter two- but NEVER the former. Their produce, at least where I'm at, is a step above literal garbage. Soft tomatoes, browning lettuce, oranges that feel like someone has been playing handball with them for the last week, apples bruised to hell, you name it.

I avoid chains like Vons, Ralph's, or Albertson's outside of rare times when I just need to hit whatever is nearby, because they're much more expensive on the whole, even with their discount card "deals". The stores are usually much nicer, but I'm not paying that when I know good and damn well there are much less expensive options around.

Grab some stuff at Trader Joe's and then grab more essential stuff (bread, drinks, etc) from Cub.

Used to go to Stop & Shop the another Target which was a longer walk (15 vs. 5 min) but rapid commercial development in the area actually worked in our favor for once

Then there's the Organic Arab market which has certain specific snacks and ice cream if you gotta have it, CVS, and the bougie supermarket that's overpriced but has Mango Gatorade

Target for the basic staples. Whole Foods for premium items like steaks, certain fruit/veggies/specialty items. Trader Joes for certain VERY specific items that we only get there. We use Shipt for deliveries, and also subscribe to a service called Hungry Root for certain items on a bi-weekly basis.

I'll do some kroger stores, but they tend to vary a lot in how the stores look/feel. my publix experience is pretty consistent.

I wish my area had a super target just to have an additional option.

The store I regularly go to, I know exactly where everything is and what they have. I start at the same part of the store and do the same route every time.

When I go to a different store, its disorienting because I dont know where anything is, and its annoying when they dont have something you're used to getting. Even when its the same company the stores vary in size, layout, and selection.

Then there's stores like Whole Foods, who have some great things but you can never do your entire shopping trip there because they don't have any regular shit. So I can get some great produce and meat/seafood, but I still have to go somewhere else to get the toilet paper I like. So I hardly ever shop there.

The little lady likes Sprouts for produce and then we hit Winn-Dixie for everything else. In fact, they recently announced that a Sprouts is going up in the neighborhood, about a 15 min walk from here.

Maybe once every month or 2 (pre-pandemic) we hit Sam's Club.

If I just need to grab something real quick, I have no problem dropping by a Publix, Fresco Y Mas or Wal-Mart.

I have no loyalty tho.

Costco
Walmart
Target
Trader Joes

I go where I want, when I want and don’t want to hear shit about who is better for this that and a third.

Harris Teeter in NOVA gotta be THE most expensive grocer; even compared to Whole Foods IMO…at least for how we shop. ESPECIALLY now that Whole Foods isn’t ALL Organic ALL the time (for the past 6-8 years at least).

90% of our groceries are Amazon Fresh/Whole Foods delivery.
The other 10% is Giant, Target & Trader Joe’s (in that order)
We also have weekly delivery from Hungry Harvest (“Rescued produce”)

When my parents visit they used to always try to hit up Harris Teeter. I had to take them in one day and peeped the prices and immediately got it lol… I don’t know what kinda shit Harris Teeter is on up here….

I swear there is going to be a war between all these grocery stores in Charlotte. They really going at each others necks.

I feel bad for the new Publix. Thought they would steal Harris Teeters biz but that shit stay empty. HT countered by accepting the Publix $10 coupons and they built a bar up on that bitch.

I usually avoid this ACME because I get a weird vibe from the other customers almost every time I shop there. They stay looking scared, nervous and shook, but this market is in a nice neighborhood. Employees cool tho.

Funny thing is that even further up the ave in the even wealthier neighborhood I don't get that vibe, nor do I get it in the hood markets.

There's also a Fresh Grocer that I almost never shop at, and I don't really know why. I just drive past that jawn to another market like it doesn't exist.

I was in Jersey and hit up an ACME and they had a liquor section.

I was hot because there was a liquor store right next to it and it was more expensive

but I never been in a grocery store with a liquor department.

and I always thought ACME was some Wile E Coyote joke and not a real thing

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

One of my favorite spots. They always have random things that I've never heard of but end up tying. Mad variety in the produce section.

i dont go to it unless i feel lazy and forgot something. its the cheap store and their produce and meat is questionable.

i used to go to albertsons before the pandemic. right now im basically just doing curbside at walmart. im also not doing much cooking.

there are a couple other grocery stores that probably have better quality and prices than albertsons but theyre a bit further so i never go to them.

Not criticizing the others in here who like the place, but I just can't handle it. Whenever I've gone in all I could see was a monument to bullshit 'health' fads and chemophobia. It really creeps me out and damages whatever little faith I still have in humanity.

I love Trader Joe's, even though it suffers a milder form of the same deficiencies. I still like the place and their store brands enough to go there about twice a month, even knowing that I'll have to make another stop to pick up necessary aspartame products. And while their produce has gotten better in recent years, I still hold to the old rule of getting produce elsewhere.

Wegmans is the best grocery chain I've ever used. Wish they would expand to my state. I once considered a job in Rochester, and Wegmans was the only plus side I could find to living in Rochester.

and the best variety. my other options for fresh produce and meat are wal-mart and kroger and both are pretty unappealing. i think there is a farmer's market downtown but its early and limited hours don't agree with my second shift work and sleep schedule. i really wish there were more options for fresh food around here but there just aren't

And yeah, like I said, not trying to cast aspersions. I have good options for produce, but I can definitely imagine WF being the best option in some areas.

And whatever personal qualms I have about the company, the #1 thing is simply that they don't have anything I need. If they did, I wouldn't be able to be a doctrinaire as I seem. My Amazon purchase history will quickly arrest to that.
