i really fucking hope he has a team of people or someone who gives a fuck about his ass...not Kanye the artist and star, but Kanye the person.

Kim has a whole family.

Who does Kanye have? Moms gone, dad is...I dunno, that relationship has always been confusing to me.

808s was the "what's happening" moment.

MBD has a couple jams no question but he wasn't the same. Went from a cocky MC who had a wide range of content to a guy who just liked to rap about himself.

like, everything before that were things that took the existing sound and represented the peak of that sound but then 808 created something new which paved the way for Drake and all the singing rappers of today

I mean, at least how it was explained to me. I still have not heard that album. Its a big ol' "no thanks" for me.

Obviously 808s was huge and defined a new era, and led to Drake and all the artists you reference.

When I said it was the "what's happening" moment I was referring to when he lost *me* in particular.

I think I was out after Late Registration. To me, his high note was "We Major". I heard that track on the radio and it vaulted him to #1 artist at that time. Downhill after that for me.

I mentioned in here that he was dating Irina Shayk, and most people replied like that was the 1st time they heard of it. So it wasn't even making waves like that.

On the other hand, ANYONE who Kim dates is going to be big news (just look at her past). Her wedding with relative no-name Kris Humphries was the biggest event in pop culture at one point.

Kanye benefited a lot from the well-oiled Kardashian media machine. Tipping off paps, crafting life events to create storylines and subplots, etc. Literally everything they do gets tons of media coverage, no matter how insignificant it is in the grand scheme of themes. Meanwhile, Kanye pretty much had to do things that were extraordinarily controversial or meaningful to generate the same level of headlines for himself.

If Bruh Bruh is looking for that same level of media magnetism post-Kardashian, it's gonna be a cold world out for him. Which is kinda scary in a way, because he's gonna have to be even more erratic and polarizing to draw eyeballs to himself.

I just imagine that the Vinn Diagram of die hard KK fans and Kanye fans didn't have that much overlap pre their merger. and the KK market was bigger than his so I guess I can see why he thought the synergies would be good from a branding perspective (until of course he started making songs about fantasizing about killing her).

He could grow Irina Shayk's brand but yeah I don't think she does much for his brand.

.....Or this dude could get some help and change what he thinks is important.

Irina Shayk has been at the forefront of modeling for like a decade and is already a known commodity. She's also almost 40. I don't see much room to grow to her brand.

Meanwhile, Kim's 2nd "biggest" baby sister is already the highest paid person in Shayk's field and apparently worth twice as much. And she does a fraction of the shows that models like Shayk have to do.

The scale and reach of their respective audiences are just two different levels.

My man has a stake in her fashion business which he help make...lol

She was a cheesy reality chick coming off a focked up marriage...
Kanye introduced her to the fashion world and front row seats to
the top designers in the world

Irina is an elite model, and Kanye is using this move for his upcoming
Yeezy/Gap venture. Irina is a stud in the elite fashion world.

Educate yourself homie...Kim doesn’t even look human anymore.
Kim ain’t nowhere near the level and style of Irina

Kanye got what he needed and bounced.

Kanye already had his company good music, and was known GLOBALLY
selling millions of records, and producing almost everyone in the music
industry.

Kanye released his first Yeezys in 2009. He got with Kim in 2012

Kim wasn’t known globally before Kanye. When Kim was just a sex tape chick
and Paris Hilton’s assistant, Kanye was winning Grammys and AA.

Kanye is a talent and his history speaks for itself...TALENT
making music, making shows, making fashion

Kim laid on her back and pushed a sex tape.

And Kendall? She isn’t even respected in the fashion world,
because a lot of her connections came by way of Kanye.

You hate the black man that much?

He's been out and about with fashion stuff lately....but he's wearing an all over face mask.

He was in the studio with Tyler last week, and was at the finals recently too....full face mask.

No one seems to be talking Ye musically and the buy leaks group has dried up too....which makes me think Ye isn't putting out a record anytime soon either.

That said, he's gotta be in the public somewhat to promote the Gap line (he's always wearing the same black Gap jacket that isn't out in black yet). Plus doing lazy but weird stuff to stay on the sneaker/streewear blogs by wearing Nike's and wearing Nike socks with Adidas.

My guess: Dude doesn't wanna be around people right now....but kinda has to and he'd probably be wearing a mask even if he didn't have to at the moment.

the production of the 1st single was literally a reworking of one of Marilyn Manson's biggest records, etc.

If Yeezus didn't sound like anything else to you then you missed every other work it was explicitly or implicitly derived from.

808s was the last album of Kanye truly pushing the envelope.

Everything since is just an amalgamation of whoever is writing/producing for Kanye and whoever inspired THEM (808s was too but it was a groundbreaking album and Kanye is rightfully credited for having his name on the front).

To be clear NOTHING exists in a vacuum. Even albums that are ahead of their time take cues from things that exist just under the surface.

808s was very much T-pain, Cudi (Plain pat, Emile) and Jeff Bhasker's ideas crashing into each other.

That doesn't make it any less groundbreaking.

Yeezus didn't sound like a Travis Scott tape at all (def had influences). Travis wasn't out here getting gesaffelstein or arca to make rap records.

Kanye has always been an excellent curator. All of his albums are multiple disciplines and maybe even opposing points smashing up against each other for forward progress.

----

That said. I can agree that I don't know how forward-thinking ANYTHING can sound in 2021. Monoculture has made it hard for sub-genres to really gestate (w/ being disturbed) and become solid enough for superstars to pull from.

or just a perfection of a particular sound.

Rick Ross "Deeper Than Rap" might be my last personal classic. And that wasn't him reinventing the wheel as much as it was him just honing in on fleshing out that JL/Runners/Inkredibles audio landscape.

He's made dope albums and mixtapes after that, but to me, that was when the recipe came together to near perfection. It was a new high without a new sound.

From then til now, we've had various artists try to separate themselves from the pack (most have been content to do what everyone else is doing lol). But I honestly can't of anything that's really made me tap on a new vein.

I think the warp tour rap of the new generation is definitely a "new vein". Whether you like it or not is something else but you have emo-rap now so far along that it can reach back to emo-rock for vocal styles and cues.

I do wish we would see a sonic leap forward though. I am not sure where it would come from but I'd love to see sonics just be revolutionized.

Can't judge whether something is "ahead of its time" til you see what happens/comes after it. At least a few years, if not longer.

I'd rather these people who are present just try and break down what the beats sound like from an actual audiophilic standpoint. Heavy drums, heavy bass, synths, electro feel, boom bap feel, funky, jazzy, etc. That's not only more appropriate and apt than "ahead of its time," but it's also at least something tangible that you can sink your teeth into in terms of expectations. "Ahead of its time" is meaningless both literally as explained above, and figuratively in terms of trying to actually figure out what you might expect from this album sonically.

"falls off" then at first I'm still listening to every release at lease once to give them a chance. After a certain number of disappointments though I'll start to check reviews and forums first to see if that artist is "back" or at least if the record is worth checking out. It's only after a couple of those that I truly get to the "don't care" point and won't even click on a thread.

For Kanye, yeah I still care. I'm probably still at the point where I'll check out the album. But he's getting really close to that last category for me.

on life of pablo.

I think my initial criticism stands, it sounds unfinished and could have been great if he spent some time polishing some of it, but I I find I put that album in rotation (at least a few songs) I thought I would at the time.

There was a ton of buzz about the EXISTENCE of the listening party.

But I haven't really seen anyone who was there commenting on the music that was played.

That's kinda weird.

All sorts of writers who were there came out of that like "yea, I was there, and so was Celebrity X Y and Z, and Kanye played some music but uh...listening to rap records playing off a PA in a cacophonous arena while a bunch of people make small talk isn't exactly an easy environment for having takeaways about what the music was.

But on its own merits the song is clearly going to be trash. The slow buildup, the mid-tempo run-of-the-mill beat, the autotune, the religious themes .. my eyes rolled into my brains.

He's been trash as a musician and as a human being for some time now. I don't wish him any ill will don't get me wrong, I hope he's healthy mentally and all that ...

... but I'll in all likelihood do with this album what I've done with all his albums and work since like 2013 or so, and listen to the first 30secs-1min of each song, hate it, skip to the next, and forget about the entire heap of trash the next day.

My brother & I decided to spend a few days in Miami. We got here on Tuesday and leave on Saturday. We didn't know til today that the Rolling Loud music festival is this weekend. This city is about to be nuts.

Anyway, there are rumors floating around that Kanye will show up and perform stuff from the new album, even though he wasn't advertised on the bill.

Putting aside Ye’s shitty personality, the music is
trash and the release process more like a big

It honestly seems like he occasionally tests to see

Apparently a lot of people loved them so I'm guessing they'll love this one too.

But all I heard was the usual generic repetitive production, lazy writing with him doing the usual gimmick of repeating some mediocre bar multiple times like it was hot, etc.

It's overwhelmingly being carried by the features. Not even the quality and substance of the features, because they were pretty forgettable. But just the names of the features and the novelty of them appearing on a Ye album.

The Hov feature was the highlight obviously. But once you get passed the awe of them reuniting and Hov talking that throne talk, you're left with the realization that the track is still mediocre and it was a meh Jay verse, even by his current standards.

This would be bad for a demo, let alone a retail album. I'm sure the usual people will dig deep and try to pull something redeeming from it though.

On one hand, I appreciate the dedication to trying to make it as good as he thinks it could be.

On the other, I want some more adulthood. Don’t announce it until you’re done with it. Quit trying to cheat the system. Quit creating all of this artificial pressure on yourself and forcing folks to wait on you. It feels like a trick to create additional energy for your music. You’re a big enough deal still that folks wanna wait for you but it would go a long way if you could even pretend that you had your musical shit together. If it’s jamming, put it the fuck out. If it’s great, let it go. If you’re a genius or whatever, your rollouts shouldn’t look like a bad college student getting ready for a midterm. Especially with an era where folks seem to have it together for the most part on this issue.

If his albums are gonna be like video games with a gang of patches and updates, I'd rather him go back to the Pablo album and fix that one. At least that one had good bones. Get a fucking 3000 verse for 30 hours (get QTip too if he'll call you back), change that putrid Stretch My Hands verse and get Kendrick back on there, give me a week with all of the different cuts of Wolves to make one really complete one, and then we could get some shit rolling!

And shit, if he for real trolled up an album that he doesn't actually have even kinda sorta ready, then that is worse than a current day video game. Regardless, I'll head back to Pray for Haiti, updating my Griselda playlist, and making my Nas and Jayz playlists..it's been too long. I also need to refurbish my grillin and chillin mix.

established artists shoulder a lot of pressure to deliver the goods.

expectations can ruin a person...which is something that I suspect is one of the many layers at play with Lauren Hill (I mean, among the many many many layers)

if hes able to just make then more music then more power to him, I think he should even double his output.

fuck it, he should just go crazy and just make a lot of shit because that's how you burn through shitty eras and ideas - ya gotta work it out of your system you know?

I say this not as a Kanye fan but as a person who knows the struggle that is the creative process.

I think this new way he is working is interesting when thinking of it through the creators lens.

In this quick short process he keeps the issues that most creators have of questioning their work when they sit on it too long is eliminated.

Sitting on work too long leads to waaaayy too much doubt and leads to shit not coming out.

117. "The good Friday approach"
In response to Reply # 112

Would work a lot better. He'd get to test some stuff out. Folks would be happy to hear the sketches and/or outtakes. It would be one song a week. And when he threw out one that was REALLY JAMMING, the reactions would give him a clue when he was barking up the right tree. And if he made some bullshit, those reactions would have a chance to chase him away from some unlistenable yodeling or whatever.

But this short album, halfass album, no album stuff is just making some folks turn on him as an artist for stuff other than the music. And that's a shame, because he has had some amazing stuff along with a parade of rock solid and jamming stuff too. I'm not sure if a chart somewhere says that this is an uncool stance to have, but that's where I'm at.

So yeah, either he should hush until he has a finished thing or he should GOOD Friday it up and release a song ever so often as an event and then collect a set of strong ass jobs and weave them together some kind of way. Then, he could collect the praise, take the dough from having more of his songs on random commercials, then go make some more expensive shoes that I won't gaf about. Its a good deal for all of us!

By 'pressure' does the OP mean that Kanye's output has to be near flawless because his failure means the label doesn't meet financial projections along with execs losing face in front of the corporate side?

Seeing the mixed/lukewarm reaction to the music that was played in Atlanta (which honestly surprised me), I wouldn't be surprised if he just lost interest and shelved the project indefinitely.

This is why he usually has to rely on these eye-opening outrage/controversy/spectacle promotional blitzes to drum up mainstream media hype immediately in the run up to an album. Because if it was left to the just the actual music, he'd struggle to attract a comparable level of interest.

That album isn’t coming out in 2 weeks. Even if it does, it won’t be a finished album..

The last 10-ish years have been rough for him musically. Lots of shenanigans and issues with getting stuff out. Lots of uneven releases too, even when he tried to keep it short. His core run had a lot of the same issues if we look back at it honestly but the resulting music was somewhat easily much better and easier to take in/understand what he was going for. And the try-hard vibe of lots of it was and still is endearing whereas now it just comes off as sloppiness.

I’ll openly vouch for most songs from the beginning through Cruel Summer. And at least a chunk of it stands up very well. It’s a great run even if it’s mostly over in terms of me expecting any kind of reliable and/or consistent work.

I tried making a kanye playlist recently. There’s like 2 hours of outtakes and loosies and I was jamming just putting it together. There’s 4 albums where I basically dragged the whole thing into the playlist. That and most of watch the throne too. I think it’s gonna go really well when I play it on random. It’s 7 hours and there’s shit missing. I can’t do that with a bunch of acts. He’s good as an music act if he never makes even one more likable SONG.

It's a work in progress. at least 3 albums are just clumped together with no reordering/integrating with the rest of the playlist at all. I'll follow-up tho!

To me it's like listening to somebody read a Rap Genius page

He's doing another show called Key Notes that's a little more interesting to me because I'm not musical at all, where he picks a chord progression or style of notation and spends an hour showing how flexible or pervasive that technique is across artists and genres

But yea, Dissect has always been a bail out, finished with everything else listen for me

it certainly sounded far better than Jesus is King or Ye, two clunkers

Pablo's highs are very high but it's extremely uneven, and I loved Yeezus (my favorite) but I get why it polarized so many people

Depending on who you ask, he hasn't made a good album in over 8 years

I was optimistic about this one for some reason. The abruptness of the moment encouraged me I guess - like he knew he had heat - but it's clear he's just totally winging it still.

In my mind, he wouldn't dare put out a bad album named after his mama. If so, I'd consider him 'gone' forever.

I long for the GOOD Friday days. He clearly had a slew of resources around him helping him out and songs were coming together like nobody's business. He eventually settled on a dozen or so of them and went to town making those songs as good as he wanted them to be and everything else either got cut or thrown over to Watch the Throne.

But now, even when it seems like there's folks around, we'll get a Pablo where its obvious half of the songs aren't done or there's something that someone somewhere should've cussed at him about.

The Ye/7-song cuz Jesus yawl era had a lot of goodness to it too (Gonna Love Me for instance) but it still feels like he squandered a shot to have another special set of songs.

Like their artist is the only artist to ever be criticized?

Everyone is picking on poor lil billionaire cultural icon Kanye. Lol.

The persecution complex is eerily similar to Trump supporters. Everybody just up and started plotting against him through no fault of his own, of course.

It’s OK for other people to not be as infatuated with him as you are. He’s given them plenty of valid reasons.

There’s no deep state conspiracy to subjugate the silent majority here. Lol.

Most of the people “hating” on Kanye will openly say that they were once big fans. And his antics, decrease in music quality, etc caused them to hop off the bandwagon. Essentially, he left them as much as they left him.

It’s really not that nefarious. Lol.

I dont know any fans like that but fans tend to go overboard.. because they are fans.

never seen this before but again, they are fans. Its what “some” fans of artist do.

In response to Reply # 139

Kanye’s fan base is still massive, but he doesn’t reciprocate the love of that fan base.

The fans give Kanye undying support and consistent benefit of the doubt
and
Kanye gives the fans $300 shoes and unfinished albums every 2 years

His fans get picked on because they behave like suckers. And I’ll admit that at times I’m one of the suckers - I’ve never bought the shoes, but I’m still always going to be excited for a new Kanye project (even if the excitement is fleeting)

but there are people who really despise his ass while also checking for all his new shit.

Shit is hilarious.

Its like the people who tell everyone they will no longer watch the NFL while sitting in a sports bar in Sundays in November.

Are they mad at Ye or mad at themselves for falling for the banana in the tail pipe every time his name or project is mentioned?

he makes it easy to hate him, tbh.

The quality of his music was basically his one saving grace.

Now we don't know if he's writing his own shit, and the music just HASN'T been hitting.

Agreed on the saving grace part. And yeah, he's a bit much even when he's on his best behavior. It is crazy to think how much folks rooted him when he was the regular dude mama's boy rapper surrounded by pimps, thugs, drug kingpins, and super duper ultra rappitty rap folks. Now his mom has been dead for almost 15 years, he married and is about to divorce KimK, his shoes are a bigger deal than his songs, and he can't get an album out when he says he will to save his life even though he clearly still has mountains of resources and help to make it happen.

I'm fairly confident at this point that he's never written his own stuff all alone. AKA there's always been some folks lurking around his work at least throwing in some lines and/or editing to the lines. GLC, Cons, Rhymefest, Pusha T, Common, Twista, Q-Tip, Drake, 2Chainz, Chance, maybe even JayZ and Cam, somebody.

Now, does that mean he's been pulling a Puffy where he's coming in reading the pages and not writing ANYTHING? I want to believe that isn't the case, but I wouldn't be shocked if that is what's going on or if that's been the deal the whole time.

As a side quest: I always wonder if Game is writing his own stuff and lurking around ghost-writing. Or if he's a person who is getting stuff written for him in exchange for gang stuff.

As a 2nd side quest: I've also wondered how much of Tupac's early Death Row stuff was handed to him by Daz, Kurupt, and some of the other folks who were around. Big Syke or some shit. Some of that All Eyez on me still sounds Daz-ish. I could be amazingly wrong and I love me some Tupac raps, but IJS. Maybe they just gave damn near completed songs to Tupac and that's why. IDK.

Kanye was never concerned about deadlines (I'll be late for that...)

Agreed. I don't think he's Puffy level or even Dre level. But I feel it's clear at this point, he keeps a "Polisher" on staff at all times."

IDK a TON about Game, but I REALLY feel his voice is pretty unique. IG U Not felt real as fuck to me, and frankly, most of his catalogue felt like BS my dudes in L.A. / Long Beach would say.

Meh. I feel like those cats were influenced by Pac. I don't buy the gangsta side of Pac, BUT the frustrated artist w/deep pockets...? Yeah, that seems like him. It's kind of a thing in the bay (Where he comes from...)

I kind of think this is crazy he is doing this at the same location again. I was with it the first time, but now it almost feels like he is getting over on his Atlanta supporters, since the city goes hard for everybody. Hopefully he is coming from a good place with this but idk. I really wonder if that many people will be there to see him again.

I know it doesn’t serve the casual fan well but damn if it ain’t fun to see new ideas for music releases still come out.

So we have album release as performance art of full tilt topped off with literal “stadium music”

He has been living in the stadium since the last show… making and mixing the music in a stadium to be played in stadium (now and later)

The performance art of the shows is the art imitating life… mattress and minimal wardrobe.

Obviously a shit ton of symbolism with him not speaking at all and doing no interviews so these stadium listening parties are the only promo (similar to frank ocean releases and few years ago)

Ye has and always will be an art school kid first. So I expect the pageantry.

What’s interesting is this is also how music used to be iterated. A band might perform songs for a year in front of people tweaking songs live until it was super tight and ready to lay down and release.

>I watched the stream last night … I’m pretty sure Donda
>(whenever it drops) will be received as a return to form

Somewhere in there is the same dude that most of us openly supported and loved in 2003, back before it became cool and/or a sign of internet intellect to dislike basically everything.

At this point, I'd for real be hurting somewhere deep inside my hiphop-loving soul if Kanye makes an album called 'Donda' and its bad, so I'm rooting for him to get this right even if he never gets it right ever again.

I remember and probably still have the leaked College Dropout. And I remember that goofy asshole going back a re-recording lots of his vocals, changing songs around, and adding lyrics. And we just waited for it while listening to the mixtapes, the bootleg, and whatever else he'd make. It's more annoying now because we know how simple an album release can be timing-wise when you have a finished album. Clearly, he doesn't have that yet.

Last night, I listened to the new Nas that actually came out like a 2021 album could and should. I was pleased. It sounds like he's comfortable in his own skin, Hitboy doing the whole thing mostly saves us from 'lost in the wilderness doing shit that doesn't work at all' Nas, and the raps are still there. And Lauren!? Good times.

I also fell into a Wee abyss. I couldn't sleep for repeating You can fly on my aeroplane and that insanely great Aeroplane reprise. Those are two of my favorite Kanye-related samples ever. They're basically perfect for what he was trying to do to end Yeezus with his triumphant discovery of love with Kim. I love when hiphop pushes a nerd like me into more jams with these excellent samples. RZA and Kanye are basically my favorite samplers ever. Side on a side: I'm not what you would call a Yeezus fan by any stretch even if I 'get it' more than I did when it came out. Thanks Dissect and time!

but both listening sessions vocals almost all the tracks are reference tracks. Either they are done and he didn't want them being ripped online before release or the more realistic option is that he's really far from done and has to fill in the mumbling melodies with words stilil. To be honest, if he's not going back to having Cons, Rhymefest, Raekwon write his rhymes like in the MBDTF days then I rather him just put out amazing instrumentals. As much as i loved Pablo when you go back and listen to it, the lyrics are so bad but the production, features and vibes are so good that they camouflage his really terrible rapping. Maybe it's time for him to be fully fledge DJ Khaled but way better at it, especially with the amount of features he needs to keep making albums. Just yell adlibs and let the other artists carry the weight lol

I also think he and Drake are also playing weird mind games with each other waiting for the other guy to release their album so they can make whatever necessary changes LOL I bet thats why Drake is taking his time with this project probably after hearing around town what Ye was working on

Sounds unfinished. Hoping these are just demo tracks.

Just tracklisting.

there’s a few floating around.

i heard one where they filtered out a lot of the audience noise and even added some percussion on some tracks. i thought it mighta been real but the kanye vocals on some tracks were still that unintelligible gibberish thing he does.

this shit aint dropping.

im tapping out now.

i dont really see anyone having this convo but him using his dead mother as a marketing gimmick is really weird when you think about it.

him dedicating an album to her is fine. but him plastering her name all over shit like leather pants and fake bulletproof vests like a mascot just to move product...thats some soulless capitalism.

In response to Reply # 189

Kanye seems nervous and scared. From the title of the album, to garner sympathy possibly, to the stadium listening party to get live feedback and see where he stands currently in this music business imo.

Dj Toomp gave his input and made an interesting point. He was at the 1st listening party and knew Kanye wasnt putting the album out because it didnt sound finished in his opinion. He also said the album had no drums, which he felt was odd. Toomp also was wondering where the song dedicated to his mother was. He felt Kanye needed an actual Donda song.

Then Nas done dropped and Nas music sounds so uplifting and inspiring, whereas Kanye has a darker sound even with his JESUS music. I bet he is reevaluating it all.

Drake seems scared to release too, but thats off topic.

Hmmm.. The Nas album is solid but even the 2nd livestream has already proven a return to form for Ye.

I have no clue why this shit is taking so long but I can say that his team since Yeezus has not been a "music" team. it is a design team focused on bringing goods to market but not music.

So now that the music team is barebones I can see shit just takin too long because there isn't the infrastructure in place to operate at the speed and level he used to.

Kanye mixed Stronger 50 times https://www.capitalxtra.com/artists/kanye-west/lists/facts/stronger/

There is no way 1 or 2 engineers can do that overnight for 15+ songs

would be as willing remain in his corner if he wasn't a billionaire. It's easier to tolerate a guy who can advance your career at will.

I mean, the M*GA stuff was vile and dangerous. Every decent human being agreed with that. It would be one thing if the guy was 20 and still trying to figure it out. But he's 40+. And it's not like he apologized for it. Wouldn't be surprised if he rides with DeSantis or some other horrible person in 2024.

Mental health seems to play a role in everything he does so that can't be discounted and I understand why close friends like Chappelle are still there for the guy. But dude has really gone out of his way to not follow his own "no one man should have all that power" mantra. That shit is dangerous (and lame).

And then there's the argument that the product he's put out in recent years isn't deserving of the attention. Like, is the guy truly a genius? (I'm gonna go with a hard no).

…but nobody cares about the rest of that shit, and that goes for both peers and fans. If the music is good he redeems himself. That’s why everyone is still paying attention, everyone is grasping at the hope that this former genius still has it. At the height of his powers, for about 7 years, Kanye West was at the nucleus of the zeitgeist…he’s long removed from that but considering how good he was people aren’t quick to give up.

I think you probably lean into it because it makes
you feel less guilty about not muting him.

It’s actually very insulting to people with the issue
to just chalk up all of Kanye’s bullshit to not
taking his meds.

It’s the easy way out for folks who just refuse to
mute him.

Plenty of people struggling out there who aren’t
saying slavery was a choice and and paling
around with legit rapists.

It’s ok to just admit he’s turned into a shitty person.

Maybe he always was.

just too much filler tho...especially with the 2nd cuts.

he messed up some of the tracks i actually like too.

i like hurricane...and it sounds 10x better with weeknd over ant clemons...but i dont know why they cut the choir off like that.

and heaven and hell is way too busy and overproduced now. i have no idea why he kept that braaaaaadt part either lol.

the song with the lauryn hill sample...i feel like he just keeps making the same beat with small differences. that shit with lil pump...faded...this one...etc.

most of other shit i just skipped. i heard it during the listening party and just wasnt into it.

>Couple extra songs at the end with the alternate features

I listened to it in full. I like lots of it even if I’m not dying to hear a lot of what I call ‘current rapper cadence’. Migos/Future rapping if you will.

If he had come out with this instead of Ye or the gospel albums, it probably would’ve gone really well.

Now? After all of the shit from the last 5 years!? Shit, I’m guessing a bunch of people aren’t going to listen to it but will still be quick to have something to type about it so I have no idea.

In some ways, he’s brought this on himself with his repeated public shenanigans: some orchestrated, others a product of a dude who is somewhat obviously fucked up. And the timing? Lawd, dude..this isn’t the right time in history to be delaying anything multiple times! People don’t want to wait for shit ever under any circumstances, let alone some music on an app that they don’t give a fuck about.

In other ways, discussing music without actually listening to the music is far too acceptable. Shit, people do it with all sorts of shit now, but I’ll try to focus here: I had disdain for that 30 years ago when folks would buy CDs, skip around without actually listening to the whole thing even once, then they’d be up in barbershops or wherever talking for longer about that album than they spent actually listening to the album. To me, that is insane..especially when the opinion is negative. But it happens all the fucking time. And it annoys me pretty much every time. At least give me some INFORMED negativity! Haha. Maybe I’m the crazy one to expect anything different cuz I see this type of shit everywhere.

kanye dropping in the middle of the release week is gonna make it hard to compare sales.

and drake is prolly gonna have previous singles boosting his numbers too.

so drake is most likely gonna do better numbers regardless. and it shouldnt be too hard to beat donda in terms of quality.

Shit is trash, and I support Kanye. Where is the real music?
All I here is autotune and cheesy synths, and Insufferable trap
beats.

There is not one true hip hop beat on the album, not one.

And all that religious crap is straight commercial and a gimmick play.

Now I understand why people were upset with Miles Davis when he
started making fragmented Jazz....The pure Jazz world hates his Bitches Brew
Era. They wanted that true Jazz sound

I don’t know what he could’ve done to salvage this album for me, it’s too monotone and feels too much like a collection of reference tracks from pretty much everybody but Fivio and Jay Elec (who’s mixed like shit though) but I can’t say it’s not a little gratifying to know this wasn’t the endgame.

The saga continues!

It’s a better version of a Khaled album without the hit song. Seems like he’s been chasing Father Stretch My Hands the last two albums and incapable of doing an entire album of those joints.

There’s some good here, and there’s a lot of filler here too. It’s just not snappin, there’s barely any percussion on these songs. It’s way too long. There’s too many features. For every good joint there’s three more that serve no real purpose.

For the general public who doesn’t pay as much attention as I do he’s already worn out his welcome with Trump hats, an endless parade of aborted and pushed back albums, and hanging out with Marilyn Manson…but the belief has always been that he can overcome his self-made messes with great music. But this is far from great, it’s barely good.

For Kanye, there’s one more card to play and that’s of course a Throne 2 album and possible stadium tour. That’s all he’s got left really to capture imaginations en masse.

As an admitted Kanye stan, I just can’t believe it ended this way. He’s just sort of succumbed to his own mania and seems to have forgotten how to make great music.

Certified Lover Boy is gonna kick ass, and you can tell that Drake knows it kicks ass. No singles, just a release date. He’ll stick to his date too and arrive with a minimum of 3-5 rippers that will dominate on radio and in clubs for the next 6 months.

He's not grabbed me in none of his more recent stuff. It's as if he's trying to find himself, his sound, and his hunger again. Hopefully he shows up completely on this new project.

Either way, I've always said that Kanye is an experience, and Drake is a vibe. To me, Drake is not touching Kanye as an artist and I listen to Drake overall a lot more.

I heard Laugh Now Cry Later blasting out of damn near every Willie’s Chicken Shack and late night club every hour for four straight days and now that song makes me nostalgic as hell for that city and weird moment in early summer when it seems like we had COVID on the ropes

I thought it was corny when it first dropped and now it’s maybe a top 5 single from him for me, and that’s kind of the Drake gift. He’ll just wind up with a song that defines specific life events for you and you can never anticipate which and when that’ll be. I heard Van Lathan say that about a year ago and I begrudgingly had to agree; no matter where I’d put Drake in any actual ranking of rap artists or discographies, that man finds his way into your sense memory like few others

The song that reminds me of the start of Covid and the craziness was Tootsie Slide. I actually liked it, and I remember exactly where I was when I heard it on the radio.

I really liked Chicago Freestlye and its interesting but I remember where I was when I first played that one in the car too.

I guess you have a point on that, but like my niece said yesterday...she misses the old Drake. I do too. Me liking a song here and there is just unusual...thats what, w songs in a year that Ive liked? I know he cant stay hot forever, but I wouldnt mind if he could. Its just the clips Ive heard on his Instagram more recently were not it imo.

I think the fact this is his first album away from Cash Money (and that tyrant Baby) only raises the stakes. I just have this sense he's about to have a moment

I hope the stans get a couple good hours out of this conversation if they want

Even Jay put more weight behind Drake based on this feature

I've been waiting for about a decade for someone to drop a rap album with no hi-hats...

Glad he did it

you'd have a nice project. not great, but solid.

i just am not a fan of this version of Kanye and it has nothing to do with the gospel shit or the mental issues or whatever. i just miss him actually rapping. all his shit now is pretty sparse lyrically, or if not that he's letting guests do half, or more than half, of the heavy lifting.

IMO Kanye used to be a really good rapper...top 10 even in his heyday...so, I wanna hear Kanye RAP, not this shit.

grew up in the church and there were songs that would make grown men cry.. same song, every time

My aunt sings a rendition of God Is that would make you get baptized on the spot.

I have mixed feeling about the way Ye uses Gospel music. I feel like Kerry Washington in Ray.. “you cant do that”
