"Best car you ever owned?"

Both me and my wife got new cars recently and had to trade in the old ones
felt like a bad parents or something
wanted to keep one but dont make sense to have more cars than you can drive
I think the best car i owned was 1998 Honda Integra
got it after it was totaled and rebuilt
man I used to push that car.

I've had:

1994 Toyota Camry
2003 Nissan Maxima
2009 Acura Tsx
2013 Infiniti G37
2018 Infiniti Q50

Considering all factors it's my favorite is probably either the Maxima or the Q50. The Q50 offers wayyy more in terms of technology obviously, but the Maxima was roomier and drove like a dream. The Q50 is a close 2nd in terms of drivability tho so I think the modern tech (2 screens, etc.) gives the Q50 the edge overall.

I really loved the Acura for a number of reasons, it was super stylish and comfortable. But comparatively it didn't have the handling and power of any of my other cars. All my other cars have had V6 engines. The Tsx had a high horse power 4-cylindar so even tho it drove well compared with cars of its class with similar engines, it was noticeably weak compared with everything else I've driven.

The 2nd weakest was the G37. It had a V6 but it felt heavy, if that makes sense.

For nostalgic purposes the Camry wins easily. It was my mom's car, and I got my license shortly after she passed away so there's that .. and there's also the fact that it was the car I had all thru high school and college so I have a ton of blunt cruise/party/etc. memories with that thing. Shoving people in my trunk to bring everyone to house parties and shit like that haha.

drove it from Oakland to DC LOADED. Through the desert...monsoon weather in Texas and Oklahoma....

Only reason I got rid of it was the insurance went skyhigh because kids were modding Civics to be like Fast and Furious.

2011 VW CC. I have documented some of my frustrations with this car. Shit was always in the shop and the timing chain shit had me furious. But ever since I found a Euro specific shop this car is amazing. Really fun to drive

runner up is the 2001 Chrysler Sebring Coupe. Another fun car with nice get up but I got some bad gas or an electrical problem. It would just cut off while driving. Turning the corner at 25 mph and it shuts off. Shit was a death trap. Thankfully I never hit anyone or ran into anything but power steering going out is scary af.

Acura Legend I got at an auction while in college. Barely drove it.. but I made a stack selling it so I loved that car.

I put 275,000 on it in 7 years!

Found a pic form the day I got it: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E3TMCwfVIAo8Ok4?format=jpg

3 doors. Stick shift. No air conditioning. 68 horsepower. I did have the passenger side mirror.
0-60 in 12.9 seconds.
Took at least a minute to get to 100.

But it got 30 miles to gallon and I drove ALL OVER the U.S. in it. from San Diego to Louisiana, to Indiana. To Vegas. To San Francisco. Sequoias. Grand Canyon. And everywhere in between.

Once I got 60 MPG when following my father who was hauling a trailer.

I found some articles:
https://apnews.com/article/36f6e840950be78024afbcc1da133ec7

and

https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1992-01-01-fi-1307-story.html#:~:text=Hyundai%20Motor%20America%20ended%201991,Precis%20sold%20in%20this%20country.

So I'll bet they sent a recall and I brought it in - but I have no memory of it.

The car cost $5999 in 1988 - which is about $13,500 now. I can't imagine a $13,5000 car would get 275,00 miles on it.

The torque and having a stick made it so fun much to drive. I was trying to hang onto it, but was spending too much money in repairs. She gave me 190K miles and some of my best highway experiences. Good times.

My Mazda Protege was no punk either. That was also a stick and logged over 100k miles in 4 years.

I wish carmakers would go back to stick shifts. I’ve only seen them in base models or not at all

about manual transmissions. I get why they're going away (combination of demand + the advances in what we call "automatic" transmissions nowadays -- many are CVTs or DCTs... a few, mostly luxury automakers are using actual automatics with 6+ speeds), but it sucks.

you have to basically buy very niche cars like the Golf GTI, Impreza WRX, etc. Kia might still offer it in cars like the Soul (not the best manual) the Forte/Rio...but other than that... it's a desert.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

Looks like this (except my grill is chrome which i prefer): https://images.app.goo.gl/QZ1JxUbNs2dYLyQZ7

I've only owned a few cars so not a lot of candidates, but I'm now 10 model years deep in and the only repair ever required was earlier this year had to replace the snake belt and one of the pulleys which was a $200 job.

It's just always felt like a great mix of looks, economy and performance.

It gets like 25 city, 33 Hwy, has great acceleration for a 4 cylinder engine so it feels fast/punchy (0-60 in 8 seconds), and the Fusion has been the basis for Ford NASCAR for a minute, so the styling makes it look fast as well. I like the interior design too.

Plus, I believe mine came w/ a few package options (I don't remember what they were) so my stereo system sounds loud, bassy and CLEAN, and I have upgrade rims and tires giving it a lower profile that creates a more sporty look. Lastly, i got some kinda crazy paint on mine (Tuxedo Black) that I've gotten multiple compliments on (which I always found weird) where the paint has, like, glitter flake, in it that shows up in the bright sun.

Anyways, I'm literally riding it until it don't ride no more.

the 06-12 version which was on a Mazda designed platform that was also used on the Mazda 6 of the 2000s. So it had access to a lot of the same drivetrains, etc.

Mazda's cars are known for their handling among other things. If they had manual transmissions, they were Mazda transmissions, etc.

When Ford stopped selling the Contour (Mondeo) in the US, and the Taurus went from being an ovoid mess to a hasty rebadge of the Five Hundred, a car really intended to replace the Crown Victoria in the US, a car that was more like the original Taurus was needed. Enter the Fusion.

the 13-19? Fusion is based on a Ford of Europe platform that is shared with the Mondeo (in fact, the Fusion and Mondeo were the same car in this era). This time around, the Mondeo was right on target with the U.S. market and was developed by Ford to be a truly "world" car. You can get this car in some wild trims in the UK (like the "Vignale", a trim above "Titanium" in the US: https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/ford/mondeo/91411/ford-mondeo-vignale-review).

Ford Europe is still selling the Mondeo but Ford US is punting the ball on all sedans.

I've driven both versions in multiple forms. I really like the Gen 2 Fusion, but the first one (the one you have) was a huge step in the right direction (esp. in the model year you have it).

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

like, on MANY multiple occasions while driving my car i've been impressed with how quickly it responds to my input and how smoothly it does so. i've always been impressed on how small of a radius is needed to bust a u-turn, despite the size of my car, etc.

interesting. i never knew any of that.

I have a buddy that drives one, I had to drive somewhere when we were at the beach, he tossed me the keys and I was expecting a focus interior, and the titanium package makes it feel like a whole other car.

new enough , 2016, with all the tech stuff. enough room for the 4 of us. no issue, so far, with quality at nearly 100k. drive pretty well. has a sport mode, which is fun at times. not bad on gas and take regular. only real gripe is the stereo isn't powerful enough if I'm listening to anything but radio.

my previous car was an 06 Pathfinder. did over 200k with that one. heater core went out not long after the cat converters were replaced. it was just a sign that more repairs were coming. that was a solid ride for a long time.

anybody replaced the head unit in your car recently? I'm thinking about it.

this is probably me being finicky more than anything. I changed the radio in my previous car and was able to adjust more stuff, along with having more power.

there are a ton of versions. I got 2016 Limited. It has the big sunroof, leather seats, bluetooth, memory seats that heat/cool, heated steering wheel.

If I had to buy again, I'd probably get the Altitude or Overland. The Altitude comes with the black out trim, including the rims. it just looks dope, but like has all the same features as mine. the overland is upgraded leather and a few extra features.

I think 2018's is when they added apple and android features to the radio. part of me wants to trade mine in for a newer version, but it's paid off so, nah.

even with ALL The bullshit I had to fix.

that car was the GOAT -- even with that wackass turning radius.
fuel economy on point, not choking in the WV mountains, where I wanted to go, it would go. And it was surprisingly customizable.

Changed my whole view of FWD Volvos.

the new ride is cool, and after almost 3 years has been mostly cool, but there's a COVID asterisk.

I just know it's gonna be some shit years from now.

Its got the feel of the old Honda Civic hatchbacks...has that Toyota drive it for a million miles reliability....and the gas mileage!!!

I can push this thing on the highway at 80 and still get 45 miles to the gallon.

In response to Reply # 32

I drove some Prius' a few years back and the lack of sound deadening material and lighter auto-glass (to improve milegae) made the car's road and wind noise very loud.

Is that still an issue?

45mpg is very attractive.

The last vehicle I had before me current one. It was a limited edition so I had all the bells and whistles on there. Loved it. Bought it used with 89k miles on it. Perfect space for the fam and roomy in the back for the dog. Engine blew out on my about three weeks ago and ended up getting a 2018 Acura RDX. Pretty good so far.

turbo, good power and torque for a four banger, all the features like you said. I put aftermarket wheels on, about a month after I got it. I sold the factory joints on Craigslist to a couple where the wife had a Sorrento EX. The husband wasn't sure if they would fit, but he was just trying to make wifey happy. The chrome on her factory wheels was peeling, bad. I knew they would fit with no problem. She end up emailing me a picture, after she went to the dealer and had them mounted.
