I don’t use Instagram for my international news source, sorry.

It Was on CNN it was on the Huffington post it was on slate. It was on my Twitter feed, just because it’s not on Instagram or in your Facebook listing doesn’t mean that other people aren’t seeing it.

If the criteria that it has to be exactly where you look exactly the exact location where you say it needs to be, then fine they’re under covering it. It was In a lot of places that I saw, although it was never the top story on our domestic news pages

But seriously it was very easy to know what was happening there in general, Unless you’re maybe on a site that was started to show vacation photos, a site that swears up and down it’s not news

That's where I saw footage of the evictions of Palestinian families intercut with interviews with militant Jewish settlers, as well as the conflicts between Israeli police / military and Palestinians at Al-Aqsa

WaPo led yesterday and NYTimes was very slow to follow, but they also covered.

It's hard to really picture how this is playing out without a map though

https://twitter.com/MiddleEastEye/status/1391984144733941760

The current violence seems particularly gruesome compared to past flare ups; like 100+ dead in Gaza in the last few days alone, and thousands of troops mobilized:

https://twitter.com/ajplus/status/1392964973186355205

Net + Gantz appear to be on some bloodthirst shit right now... why reject the ceasefire??

I can't wrap my head around instigating such state-/state-sanctioned violence against one of the holiest structures in Islam, during Ramadan of all times. It's depraved (and as it happens, likely a war crime - https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/how-israeli-raid-al-aqsa-mosque-could-constitute-war-crime).

Furthermore these raids, forced evictions, bombings, etc happening amid the expulsion/forced deportation of Black jews from the country:

and the stonecold medical racism in staunchly REFUSING to provide COVID-19 vaccines to Palestinians, despite the near-complete vaccination of Israeli Jewish citizens and a vaccine stockpile:

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/apr/09/the-us-media-is-touting-israels-covid-recovery-but-occupied-palestinians-are-left-out

tells us pretty much all we need to know about how minorities are faring over there right now The term apartheid seems insufficient, tbh.

But of course, total impunity: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/4/23/over-300-us-lawmakers-urge-continued-israel-aid-without-condition

Every angle of this shit sucks. Prayers to the whole region

It would be like the US invading Puerto Rico

What’s to gain?

Also, Palestine/Gaza doesn’t have an army, navy or air force

The US media is making false equivalencies between the 2 sides.

when you really get into the weeds you start getting into the methods of killing and other arbitrary qualifiers

one attacks from afar with superior technology and wipes out city blocks, one commits an act of suicide that also takes lives of an enemy.

the question of what makes one a party at war and what makes one a terrorist is entirely defined by propaganda

... that the modern political state represents some inherent urge for civilization rather than a temporary and convenient (for colonizers and capital) way to aggregate power. Once we've truly bought that, the idea that this is the necessary way to organize ourselves, it's pretty simple to make the argument that these states have "rights" that they must be permitted to defend.

But we know it's not true. People have dignity and rights owing solely to our existence. States just have power, enforced by violence.

all over but particularly among the right, there is a pretty solid judeo-christian cultural agreement that the arab world is less civilized, basically savages or barbarians.

I think some of that inclination is gone and the US is joining other nations in the humanity they are belatedly extending Palestinians and others Arabs. Biden's simplified take "they have the right to defend themselves" has never seemed more outdated and false, and hopefully new Democratic leadership will more critically examine the US' financial backing of Israel in the near future.

I don't see how the veneer that this ongoing conflict is primarily about religion, history, prophecy, etc is credible anymore, even to those giving substantial benefit of doubt.

You have former officials confirming they're literally down to strengthen this nexus of racism-intolerance-settler violence-military industrial complex transnationally as a matter of foreign policy at the *expense* of (critical) diaspora Jews.

If the end goal is truly as they claim, to establish/defend a homeland for the Jewish people, an antagonistic posture towards a significant percentage of Jewish people doesn't make a lick of sense. Nor does the obsession with annihilating Gaza if the central territorial dispute is about (historical) Judea and Samaria.

I mean the synergy's been obvious for a while and it's certainly not surprising, but shit's dark af tbh.

https://www.haaretz.com/us-news/.premium-israel-should-focus-outreach-on-evangelicals-not-u-s-jews-former-envoy-says-1.9790303

Israel Should Focus on Evangelicals, Not U.S. Jews Who Are More Critical, Dermer Says

Deciding to focus on strengthening relationship with evangelicals at the expense of the Jewish community is a numbers game, says ex-Israeli envoy to D.C. Ron Dermer

Israel should spend more of its energy reaching out to “passionate” American evangelicals than Jews, who are “disproportionately among our critics,” former Israeli ambassador to Washington Ron Dermer said on Sunday.

Speaking to Israeli journalist Amit Segal onstage at a conference sponsored by the right-wing Makor Rishon newspaper, Dermer, who is a longtime confidante of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, called evangelicals “the backbone of Israel’s support in the United States,” and said that deciding to focus on strengthening that relationship at the expense of the Jewish community was a numbers game.

“Look at the numbers. About 25 percent, some people think more, of Americans are evangelical Christians. Less than 2 percent of Americans are Jews,” he declared.

“So if you look just at numbers, you should be spending a lot more time doing outreach to evangelical Christians than you would do to Jews. But also look at the passionate support. For most evangelicals in the United States, certainly for many of them, Israel is one of the most important issues to them. For some it’s number one. For others, it’s maybe number two or number three.”

It is “very rare to hear evangelicals criticize Israel,” he said.

According to a 2019 poll conducted by the Pew Research Center, 42 percent of American Jews agreed with the statement that then-President Donald Trump was “favoring the Israelis too much,” significantly more than the 15 percent of evangelical Protestants who expressed such sentiments.

These attitudes are closely related to both political affiliation, as American Jews skew heavily Democratic, and religious ideology. According to a 2017 poll conducted by LifeWay Research, 80 percent of American evangelicals see the establishment of the state of Israel and the return of Diaspora Jews to the country as “fulfillment of Bible prophecy that show we are getting closer to the return of Jesus Christ.”

Despite his comments, Dermer stressed that Israel has a duty to invest in its relationship with Jewish communities abroad.

“The raison d’être of the Jewish state is to build these connections with Jews throughout the Diaspora and certainly with American Jews as well,” he said. “We have an obligation and a duty to strengthen that connection and we do."

Beyond finding fault with American Jewish criticism of Israel, Dermer also lashed out at domestic opponents of the prime minister, calling Israelis “particularly ungrateful” and describing Netanyahu as “something of a Gulliver in Israel” under attack by “Lilliputians doing their best to tie (him) down.”
