Is the money better spent on just a PPF?
May 06th 2021
8
PPF will protect from paint chipping from rocks. Coating? Not so much
May 07th 2021
9
Yeah, it was like $600 for paint prep and then another $1K for the PPF

pay a pro

I was just reading about ceramics since I copped a Kia Telluride last month..

I'm still up in the air about it... I don't have a garage and it's pretty pricey if they have to do color correction and all that..

for now I'll most likely do a ceramic spray coating ..

This dude compares the top brands, he is currently at the 8month mark:

I believe he compares ceramic coatings as well

I'm just reading about this stuff, I've been out of the loop lol

I had a 2014 Toyota Highlander... (I was planning on keeping it but it got totaled - head on collision.. long story short.. lady drifted on to my lane.. ) I'm just glad everybody made it out ok with minor injuries...

the handling is better than the Highlander..

I didn't like the shape of the 2021 Highlander .. so while doing my research it was either the Telluride or the Palisade..

I don't like the exterior of the Palisade...

Plus the Telluride had the Nightfall Edition.. that's what I got

very comfortable..

I didn't even get a quote but from what I'm reading on other forums you're paying approx. 2K - 5K depending on what kind you get (I didn't know they had different types)..

if it's a new car more likely on the lower end...

Personally, I can throw that GRIOTs on every year or shorter... doesn't bother me..

I really need to polish it. Have the DA, pads, correcting fluids...just no time. So we'll see how it holds up on a black car that is garaged by night which doesn't get more than a trip through the car wash (which I absolutely hate)

My car, on the other hand? Old school sealant and wax for the summer (CG Jet Seal and Collinite 845). Then in the fall, strip, polich, and see how a si02 combo works (TAC Systems Moonlight and Geyon Wet Coat)

First off, no, it's not gonna last 5 years. Not as a daily driver anyway. Anything exposed to the elements is going to fade. Will it last longer than traditional waxes or sealants? Yes. But it still needs to be applied and maintained properly.

I'm good with a more traditional wax or sealant, or even some of the newer si02 sealants.

Paint protection film…
I’m getting quotes for whole vehicle ceramic coating vs PPF or both.
PPF is a little more than the ceramic and it’d only be on the front end, not the entire vehicle.

Coatings aren't exactly a protective barrier from damage. You can PPF your whole car, but you need bread for that

For either I hope the installation includes paint prep. Paint should be polished first, as whatever swirls and scratches are in the paint now will still be there once the coating or film go on, and fixing them won't be possible without buffing through the coating and reapplying and blending it in.
