"OKCalifornians: yall voting for Caitlyn Jenner for gov? "

Do we blame Kanye or the Kardashian momma for this stunt?

A pro trump transgender running for gov. of Cali?

Who woulda thunk it 10 years ago.

****************
TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

She would be worse than Arnold. I didn’t like a lot of Arnold’s politics, but he was smart and savvy and showed some interest in politics for years. And for all his bluster and goofy catchphrases, he spent his first term actually working with Democrats to get stuff done.

I have no idea what Jenner even stands for. I do know that she has touted Trump, which will go over like a lead balloon out here.

the recall was mostly due to pandemic lockdowns, and we're starting to open up. While there's no shortage of Karens, anti-maskers and rednecks in Cali there aren't enough to knock Newsom out the box. Especially for a trans reality show figure with no personality.

i think a halfway serious candidate could hammer Newsom pretty hard on the homeless problem, and maybe a couple other things. I'm not gonna pretend I have the solution either outside of a generic shelter, drug/mental health treatment answer, or how much of it is his fault but it's definitely gotten worse on his watch, and that's all most voters see.

Caitlyn tho? nah. I do think we might be dumb enough to elect someone like say, Dr Drew

the petitioners' grievances:

"Laws he endorsed favor foreign nationals, in our country illegally, over that of our own citizens. People in this state suffer the highest taxes in the nation, the highest homelessness rates, and the lowest quality of life as a result. He has imposed sanctuary state status and fails to enforce immigration laws. He unilaterally over-ruled the will of the people regarding the death penalty. He seeks to impose additional burdens on our state by the following; removing the protections of Proposition 13, rationing our water use, increasing taxes and restricting parental rights."

...in the general.

They just aren't that many Republicans aside from those living in the sticks and Orange County. Anyone who'd beat Newsom would have to pull a reasonable amount of voters away from Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, San Diego, etc. I know the LA Times keeps trying to make the former Mayor of San Diego a viable candidate, but nah, I don't see it. And eventually Trump would try to stick his nose in (for both any recall election and the general) and that would be a huge turn-off for the great majority of voters out here.

About the only way a Republican could win out here is voter suppression, and CA is currently trying to make it easier to vote, not harder.

But yeah, the best shot to get rid of Newsom is if someone Demo has the stones to go at him in 2022. And even then, Newsom would call in all of his favors, just like he did in the '03 SF Mayoral race.

i think most dems would prefer Newsom

i'm not entirely convinced a Repub has no shot, but it would require a balancing act of keeping trump away without upsetting trumpistan.

A Sanders' disciple or something. Would appeal to young voters and a some of "the system is fucked"/"Newsom is a servant of corporate interest" types.

For a Republican to win, they'd need... someone who's like Arnold. A big business type who tout green energy and be pro-choice. And I don't think a Republican man/woman like that runs for statewide office anymore . Meg Whitman was a spectacular failure. And I can't see running on the "Immigrant caravans are coming to kill us!"/"Cut everyone's taxes!" platform cutting any ice in the guernatorial race.

i think it's a constant misread of the public, even in Cali. we just went though this in the pres election where Trump lost handily but repubs did quite well.

i do agree that an Arnold "type" figure could have a shot. Jenner is a joke, but another outlier candidate could have a shot

As you said, your standard taxes/ms13 is coming to kill us fodder won't cut it other than galvanizing the base. they'd def have to hammer down on the homeless crisis worsening as a result of failed Newsom policies. Again, I don't know if that's true or not but It's a real thing seems to be getting worse daily

The dems do have an issue in Cali.... we pay sky high taxes but the basics that tax dollars are going to aren’t necessarily being met.

- schools
- housing

A repub could easily sneak in hammering down on mismanagement and probably be successful.

Won’t be Jenner though

You are wrong because California's aren't as upset about taxes as the minority of Republicans and Dems who are. They have HAMMERED this messages for decades and its gotten them little to nothing.

Newsom got 61% of the vote. 61%. That's a fucking MASSACRE.

What has he done to be "deserving" of a recall? Had dinner with friends - which happened almost a year after this recall started?

It's bullshit - and the ONLY reason Davis was recalled was because of Arnold - who California's STUPIDLY voted in TWICE because they didn't see him as a "real Republican' which he was.

MAGA will not win in California in 2021 - I doubt it could win for a decade or more UNLESS they get a a 'perfect' celebrity again.

Caitlyn Jenner is not that.

(Never mind the Arnold grouping, infidelity, and Dad was a Nazi, and gave a toast to Kurt Waldheim at his wedding, and frankly bad acting.)

This recall is about trying to win power when you can not be elected.

most of the people who complain about Cali taxes are just parroting rich people

middle aged white dudes going on about how they're leaving California is pretty much a fashion trend. most people like this aren't going anywhere and many of them don't even vote.

i keep coming back to the homeless crisis because its the one thing most people can see that's become worse. In the last 5 years there are two things that stand out.. at least in LA, Massive development, and rampant homelessness. There are mini skid rows seemingly everywhere now. And i think it affects everyone whether they think so or not. They take up a huge chunk of the first responder calls with fires, OD's and people walking down the street with swords and shit.

Shit, a repub could have press conference in front of the restaurant around the corner from me that didn't survive lockdowns and is now a mini encampment on some 'this is gavin newsom's california'. Don't get me wrong, I'm just talking political moves. These people need genuine help and repubs obviously give two shits.

Agreed on Homelessness being a easy visible issue to rally around.

SF just looks flat out crazy... there was a line outside the supreme store surrounded by full tent encampment on the sidewalk.

Skid Row in LA feels like to spread out a bit. Claiming new territories and mcuh much larger tents. Driving down the 101 I seen a dude who carved into the grass stairs to his homeless hillside mansion basically.

The mismanagement of the money is also an issue that can be pounced upon. A single apt built to house the homeless cost 600k.. like how!

...as the candidate to tell people to vote for in case its successful.

Last time, it was Cruz Bustamante, who was Lt. Gov and essentially an empty suit when standing next to Arnold.

I'm wondering who they're going to offer this time. I really don't think anyone is taking Jenner seriously, if she's indeed the best that the Republicans have to offer.

Smart people hate her because of her political views.

And how bad she was as replacement on CHiPs.

Jenner was beloved after the 1976 Olympics win and the Wheaties box, can't think she's bene that popular since then.

I don’t get that sense at all. Many trans supportive ppl just find CJ’s Politics to be absurd and self loathing, supporting someone like trump who instituted a ban on trans ppl serving in the military and she is trans herself.

This roll out hasn’t been great for her either, as she has shown she doesn’t even know much about cali government (not knowing that DAs are elected in Cali for instance)

She just seems to be an ill prepared celeb clout chasing. The left finds her politics ridiculous and the right is probably largely ignoring her

but i think that's a bit of problem in itself, to be cool with everything Trump does except for the one thing that affects you personally.

and even that's inconsistent on her part because the republican party is on a tear lately because they feel there's political traction in anti-trans legislation. It's just weird to still want to be part of an organization that openly thinks you're a freak that who likely only wants to be a female so you can molest girls in bathrooms or take their spot on that track team

Yes, there's more to it than that, but that's a core value that is perhaps it's most potent unifying thread.

>but i think that's a bit of problem in itself, to be cool

>affects you personally.

I know I'm a broken record on this, but I think CJ is another shining example of this, due to being one of the more extreme outliers.

While the GOP has been able to snag relatively small, yet vocal and visible pieces of the minority groups the work triple time to oppress, the fact remains that they also work fervently to undermine large swaths of their white base.

And while they often point to some other reason, the common denominator nearly always seems to rest on a common disdain for some group. Much like Candace Owens, CJ may not realize she's being used as a token representative, but it's unlikely that this would matter, because she's shown that her shared disdain for poor and/or homeless people (for example) trumps- unfortunate pun unintended- their disdain for trans people.

IMO, the shared disdain, disgust, and disrespect for marginalized groups is one of the single most powerful unifying threads of the GOP.

It's why the "culture war" isn't just some bottom of the barrel, menial tool. It's their most powerful weapon, and always has been- and the growing strength of the opposition is just making them focus more heavily on their bread & butter.

IMO, it seems like she's just looking for her new tomorrow after the shine and newness of her transition has faded and the speaking engagements have likely dried up.

The funniest part, to everyone's point, is that the assholes she's chasing and represents will never, ever, ever accept a trans person -- no matter how morally repugnant (see also: aligned) her views are.

In that way, she's wholesale on equity -- a Republican asshole through and through.

there is no "Trump" movement behind her to counter whatever it is that has Californians upset with Newsom.

she is clearly for The Rich (so was Trump, but she can't mask it).

she's tied up with the Kardashians. Nope.

Arnold Schwarzenegger would have a better shot if he ran again (if it were even possible); by post-Trump standards he appears a more serious candidate. lol

Jenner is obviously a joke. The "serious" candidate, Simon Smith and His Amazing Dancing Bear, went over like a wet fart. I don't see the Republicans trotting out anyone else with any sort of chance.

Meanwhile, Newsom is exerting all of his influence to make sure that there's no Cruz Bustamante stand-in on the ballot. And about to literally send cash to state residents (I imagine the checks will have his signature on them).

Barring some huge scandal breaking or a huge COVID surge once the state starts letting in tourists again, Newsom is pretty likely in the clear.

This is all a colossal waste of money and time.

only serious GOP candidate but he can’t break through at all and is being overshadowed by Sideshow Jenner and Bob the Bear.

Newsom is about to send $600 stimulus checks to Californians, reopen California in June 15, majority of the state is vaccinated and things should be mostly back to pre pandemic normal in California by August.
