lol Another being that the writing was trash. I remember thinking that even if the actors were amazing, they're being asked to turn shit into gold with the script they were given.
I just couldn't get over the premise for the 21st century tho. We're in 2017 at the time. The Ancient One was cast as a white woman, and they couldn't make Iron Fist Asian? Not buying it.

There were a lot of people advocating that he be ethnically Chinese but raised in the US and having no strong cultural ties to China. Could have had him adopted by the Rands or something and used that as part of the adversarial relationship with the board/the Meachums or whatever. If they wanted an Asian lead they could esaily have done it. That probably would have nixed Shang Chi though so maybe, considering that the writing and action choreography for the show was so bad, it was for the best.
Still what a waste of Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing.

Seems like a cool place to reintroduce Iron Fist and The Hand into the MCU (yeah I know The Hand are Japanese, might as well get some regional beef jumping off LOL)
As a side note, I hope they keep the guy from Netflix Daredevil and bring him and Netflix Punisher into the MCU movies somehow

I hadn't really considered that. But he's right. I mean, people are gonna say this is an old marvel character that's been around since the 70s or whatever, but he's point is that as an Asian person, he's tired of seeing indistinguishable Asian kung fu guys. Like the only way Asian folks enter the western imagination is through these kinds of stereotypes.
Also the trailer looks cool.
Also, the 10 rings is an allusion to The Mandarin, who will almost certainly be the villain of the series.

But really slowly some examples:
Crazy rich asians <<~~~ though there seems to be a whole 'nother trope developing around "crazy rich asians" -subsequently Henry Golding as the lead and then getting a lead with Emilia Clarke in last Christmas -- which unfortunately sucked.

Randall Park and Ally Wong's work. I appreciate that Randall Park's Jimmy Woo character isnt some kungfu/karate master hero.
Though one thing i'll name is that lanes are still pretty narrow as the are for other non white people.
One thing I will name is that: Something about Asian's that can also be romantic leads --even in the rare cases they happen-- are primarily biracial as noted above. This is true going back to Russell Wong, Keanu Reeves, and Jason Momoa if youre counting AAPI.

...but I will say I was kind of pissed when they didn't have any ending scenes for "Logan" or "X-Men: Phoenix" but those were technically Fox movies not Marvel per-se.

I thought "Logan" was decent for what it was, a well written ending story, kind of how Marvel went thru their "Death Of Wolverine" & "Old Man Logan" phase with him, it's like an alternate future time line story.

I thought Shang-Chi was going to be the typical martial arts movie but it turned out pretty damn good, I gotta say whomever did the writing for Awkwafina did a hell of a job (I wouldn't be surprised she basically wrote or improvised all her own dialog) cause she basically carried that movie as a side0kick and comedy relief; cause at certain points the movie was feeling like a dark Dragon Dynasty feature film.
I won't give out any spoilers for those that didn't see it yet but when I saw the character (will just say Mr.W), I thought he would show back up when they reached the village to help out with the battle but nope, it's all good though.
I'll say, it's surprising how Marvel can always make a decent movie but DC still has a hard time doing it from time to time.

So an interviewer finally asked her about here silly onscreen persona, especially when one compares it to her view on asian accents in film and not wanting to be a "Minstrel" ( I swear to god she said that shit with no irony, I can't even make this shit up!)
Her views on Asian Accents in film: " I refuse to do accents. I'm not OK with someone writing the Asian experience for an Asian character. I make it very clear, I don't ever go out for auditions where I feel like I'm making a minstrel out of our people."

i ended up watching it at the theatre a couple weeks back because i was kind of hyped about watching eternals so i didnt want to skip this one. the press reviews about eternals cooled me on it after i had already made plans so i went through with it.
theatre was packed and the person next to me kept coughing. i didnt catch anything but definitely made me more hesitant on going back.
as far as shang-chi i thought it was pretty good. no big complaints, it didnt blow me away but i enjoyed it. i dont think its a must watch but it is worth watching.
