some Americans love the Royal Family. America or the YTs of America lack culture. Just look at their food. The closest thing to "royalty" are celebs and the President which from the outside looking in can look crazy in itself (ie. Kim Kardashian, Hov/Beyonce, Kennedy's, Obama's etc). North Americans have their own version of royalty that is just as dumb but theirs has such a deep rooted and ugly history but you can say the same about ours. It's also been put into our heads at an early age to think of kings, queens and princes in a certain way.

However, I'm finding it very difficult to care. Like sis, you weren't a child when you married into this white supremacist family. She should examine why she was ok with that. I"m hoping that Black Brits will figure out how to use this moment to push their own justice claims.

Would you think it was overblown if it was *your* pregnant spouse going through that?? A pregnant person is super far along and reaches a SUICIDAL level of depression. In a FOREIGN country. And is not only BLOCKED from getting help by the people around them, but actively antagonized and prohibited from indicating anything is wrong or doing any of the self-care that could provide mild relief like socializing, taking time off work, etc. All while being dragged every day by the surrounding community/media with all sorts of racist hostility. There are few ways that scenario could have been more toxic.

And in most other circumstances, a pregnant person reaching their brink could at least *physically* escape if things got that bad, whether from an abusive partner or job or whatever. Plot. Call 911. Wave down a car passing by on the street. Move in with friends or family or a shelter or *something*. I am actually in awe that she hid her despair as well as she did.

I think how one feels about monarchies as a governance model, or elites in general, isn't actually that relevant tbh. Kind of like when Serena Williams spoke out about her horrible post-partum care experience, which could have killed her. Yes, it happens to Black women from all walks of life and we know the stats, but Serena being this wealthy celebrity Black woman didn't make what she went through any less abhorrent.

The racist stuff was also fucked up but disgusted me more than anything (perhaps bc we're all too familiar at this point). But the neglect Meghan endured as a suicidal pregnant woman chilled me to the bone.

And it's been a while since I read/watched the whole Diana thing, but Camilla + Charles were definitely the assholes there, are you kidding? They weren't these innocent long-lost lovers as you're framing it - they partied together/ran in the same circles, fucked on-and-off, dated other people, and then married other people. They were selfish and messy as shit with their affair and Charles also verbally and emotionally abused Diana.

Blaming the Queen and Meghan for where the family dynamic is at today is quite the reach and excuses a LOT of the poor judgement exhibited by the men in that family, namely Charles and Andrew.

And re: the racism, I don't think anyone's surprised by it but why does it need to rationalized? And why is the burden on Meghan to suck-it-up and adapt to their racism, rather than on the family members to not be fucking racist?
