"What are your all time fav FUNNY tv shows"

I enjoy a alot of sitcoms & their likes, but scripted tv shows that has me ROLLIN are kinda few and far between. Arrested Development, Chappelle Show, Nathan for You, maybe Seinfeld and definitely Curb has done that. Also, Peep Show

And we’re not talking about credible GOOD shows necessarily, but shows that are funny as hell (to you). If uncle Jessie & Raven cracks you up, thats cool

What all time sitcoms has you rollin???? Lookin for laffs ‘21.....

Don't think that it's necessary at all.

I watched the finale for that first season YEARS after the fact, possibly after the series finale had aired, because people had said that it was the first episode where the series showed any sort of potential. And even that seemed unnecessary (and was comparatively not as good as anything that came after it).

i figure most people would be inclined to watch all seasons but if you dont want to deal with season 1 i could see jumping right into season 2 would work. if youre like me though and just have to watch it all then just know it gets so much better than season 1.

kind of like the office. it was more cringe than funny. once they made adjustments it got hilarious. 1st season is only 6 episodes so its not asking much to get through it.

i just remember watching the first maybe two episodes and saying noooope. didnt come back for months and now its one of my favorites lol

i came across a youtube video yesterday that explains a lot of the changes they made to make it as great as it got. maybe not something for someone to watch that hasnt started the show but i think it was on point. i didnt pay full attention to be honest.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTv5v75aRck&ab_channel=EntertainTheElk

from what i remember they basically made leslie competent but still naive so she would be more likeable.

gave tom a personality instead of just a jim clone

and well yeah fleshed out the whole cast

i rewatched the whole show a few months ago and i dont think i found season 1 bad but when i first watched it it was hard to get through.

give or take, Mike Schur was on Dan LeBatard's podcast and he was saying that first season, he was terrified everyday, that they were going to be cancelled. Like...he was just waiting for the call. He was like, I am going to be responsible for ruining Amy Poehler's career, lol. He said the reason they made it, is that the cast was just TOO good to fail.

they basically sped up her development, in one season...whereas they let Michael become gradually more likeable as the seasons progressed. By the time he left to go live with Holly...he was loveable.

i think there was a big step from season 1 but he still kept some of his "qualities". it was part of the character but season 1 something else. i think im still kind of mad at him lol no matter how much sympathy they tried to make us feel for him in later seasons i would remember dude kind of sucks though.

parks definitely had a great cast. they all pretty much only became bigger after/because of the show right? they all worked well together too.

I am fully anti-skipping seasons of any show so when I decide to watch, I'd have watched the first season in full no matter what. But that said, considering what you guys are talking about I'm glad to hear that it's only 6 episodes haha.

Whenever people talk about skipping a season of a show I think of those fools who say they always skip S2 of The Wire. Those people shouldn't be allowed to have TVs haha.

...Tracy Flick was the right decision.

The creators of the show have talked about how the originally wanted to be someone who was very passionate about public service and local politics, but wasn't very good at either. Tweaking it so that she was someone who passionate, but overdoes it, made things much funnier.

It just came right after the UK & US versions of the Office and felt a little derivative at the time. The characters were a little flat too, but I don't remember it as "bad".

But it definitely saw a huge improvement in the second season and turned into one of my all time favorites. One of the few comedy series where I actually felt invested in characters and had genuine emotional reactions besides laughter.

The Office
Parks and Rec
King of Queens
Scrubs

Not sure if these count, but:
Family Guy
American Dad
The Cleveland Show

The Office is the ultimate “have it on in the background” show for me now, where I don’t have to pay close attention to everything, but I’ll get sucked in at times too and it’s still funny and enjoyable even though I’ve already seen it.

i kind of had the same experience as i did with parks and rec (which makes sense) where i tried watching it and was mostly bleh on it. then came back months later to get through more episodes and it was definitely worth it. once the writers made adjustments the shows got so great.

i would say the office got better quicker than parks and rec did. i wouldnt bother comparing which one is better overall.

both kings of queens and scrubs were funny from what i watched but never really watched them regularly.

others include

Martin
Living Single
Goldbergs
Wonder Years
Seinfield
Blackish
Seinfield
Fresh Prince
Different World
Cheers
Night Court
Fresh Off the Boat
Jeffersons
Sanford and Son
Cosby Show

I’m old af so these newer shows rarely make me bust a gut.

someone on here joked me for liking King of Queens for some reason. That shit is hilarious to me tho. The episode Apartment Complex is one of the funniest episodes I’ve ever seen for a sitcom.

Never really figured out when the show lost its steam, maybe it got too weird or ran out of material or what it was, but I’d say at least the first 3 seasons was pretty damn hillarious

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is historically great in the role, and the writing is just so sharp, so rapid-fire, so brutally mean and cynical and cutting and hilarious that it hurts.

Veep is the show that America deserves, and that's not a compliment to America.

if this is a better ensemble sitcom compared to Veep. The jokes come a mile a minute on Veep, while some of those story-lines during the first two seasons on Arrested Development are so multi-tiered and well thought out.

Tough call to make.

I’ve been telling every AD fan I know to stay the hell away from that, its almost like they attempted a meta joke with how awful and lazy that whole season was

Martin, Seinfeld, Curb, Sunny in Philadelphia, Veep, and all those Danny McBride HBO shows (Eastbound, Vice Principals, Righteous Gemstones).

I haven't watched in a while, but The Larry Saunders Show probably should get a nod as well, but I should re-watch on HBOMax to give an honest assessment.

**edit** Another show I haven't seen in years but I remember enjoying a ton was Sealab 2021. I have to see if that's available on a streaming service somewhere.

The sheer scope of what they pulled off was a movie-quality twist.

That shit would have made for an amazing Black Mirror ep. Especially with the Dennis element of the ep.

That joint damn near broke *me*. They continue to find ways to clear lower and lower bars, but the sheer effort it took to pull off such a long con like that, just to be a dick to Dee is mind blowing.

it produced some absolute bangers, but it also had some mediocre content.

pound for pound, I think Key and Peele produced more stronger content across their body of work - i.e. 60 out of 100 skits are B rated, but I think really good Chappelle skits were more potent and concentrated than K&P - i.e., 20 out of 100 skits are A+++ rated

All Gas No Brakes isn't on television. It is an interesting show though, given that the main interviewer is playing a character all while he's interviewing folks in some pretty dicey areas.

On that note, John Ritter is just great in general. I still go back to Problem Child and Stay Tuned.

and i can see that putting a lot of people off. it's weird and uncomfortable and they didn't really make it work until the 2nd or 3rd season. but that perspective allows for some creative and unconventional writing and joke delivery, such as jez rationalizing dosing mark with cold meds as a "friendly poisoning" via internal monologue. it's also an extremely accurate portrayal of intense social anxiety (mark) and desolate drug-addled slackerism (jez), both of which i strongly identified with. and it has a lot of sharp history jokes. and it has super hans. it's an amazing show and i wish more people were into it

That's been a go-to wind down and relax show for the two of us all the way back to the beginning.

Granted, their "special episodes" are often cringe as fuck looking back.

But those four had such great chemistry.

Rose is an idiot, Blanch is a whore, Sofia gives no fucks about anyone's feelings, and Dorothy stays threatening mom with Shady Pines. Rinse, wash, repeat. That's an act that should have gotten real old, real quick, but it didn't. That shit still kills IMO, and it's a testament to everyone involved that it worked so well.
