Once they told the story of Jack's death and the immediate fall out, all of the mystery and wonder of what happened that started the moment Becca showed up to Randall's house (in present time) with Miguel and Kate revealed Jack's ashes vanished, and at this point there is nothing in the past (big 3 growing up as kids, teens) is interesting anymore. They used to do a much better job at linking past and present storylines, now the big 3 growing up scenes really add nothing to the story. I'm intrigued in a few open questions based on what I imagine will be the series finale at Becca's deathbed, but I also don't care at all about Kate's kids stories in the future (or Kevin's for that matter).
A few stories I'm still interested in: how Becca and Miguel became a thing (they teased this with Miguel sliding in Becca's FB DM's but haven't shown anything since), Nicky (I'd like to see what he was doing between Jack cutting him off post-'Nam and Kevin finding him), what leads to Toby being alone and potentially in some hospital in the future as well as him being surprised the Pearson's wanted him at the house (have to assume him and Kate divorce at some point), what made Jack's dad go from a great dad to alcoholic P.O.S., and Randall/Malik's mentor/mentee relationship.
What I don't need any more of: Randall's origin and his shit in general (besides the aforementioned Malik stuff), Kate being over-dramatic anytime anything good or bad happens (they've toned this down a bit over the last few seasons thankfully)
All in all this show feels like a 4-season series that got extended to 6, and the writers are doing their best to stretch the last few season into twice as many hours. They hooked me in til the end with the sneak peaks of the future, but if it weren't for already getting a taste than I may have checked out by now. Last season was great, a return to form after the abysmal 3rd season, and while the 5th is finally starting to pick up a bit, it's still far from it's peak.
