"Bilal - Love For Sale"
Listened to this album last night for the first time in a few years. It is still as fresh as ever. By far his best body of work. Has he ever discussed why it was shelved? Have either of you ever seen him perform any of the songs?
At this point,I really wish he would do a Record Store Day release of this. I would pay good money for it......

Interscope didn't want release it because they didn't think it would sell. They told him to do something more radio-friendly. Then it leaked, and they shelved it. I've seen Bilal talk about going through a couple of years of depression over that, having worked so hard on the project. He bought some home studio programs and just started writing songs for himself that weren't just about love but about a wide range of topics just as kinda therapy for himself. A lot of that ended up as part of Airtight's Revenge. He seems to see that as the silver lining of it all.

ever felt just a bit of guilt/remorse for downloading ...just a TINNNNGE though.... labels be bullshitting not releasing that heat in a timely fashion. And Love For Sale was some serious heat!!

Yes! Love for sale is harshly jamming. There’s no less than 6 borderline perfect Bilal songs on there. He deserved better for sure.
And yeah, record labels can be the worst. This is my vote fore best leaked album to never see the light of day in any non-leaked form. I’m sure there’s other candidates but this one flat out bothered me. And I didn’t like the idea that the leak was used as the problem. The truth is that the label failed dude by not trusting him. Also, years later, Jay and Kanye found a way to stop Watch the throne from leaking so clearly it was possible to keep shit out of people’s hands.

No. This is exactly how I pushed Paak to some of my friends. It’s an unfair comparison cuz Bilal is amazing in a way that’s roughly impossible to duplicate. But it seems like dr dre and them pretty clearly view Paak as Bilal 2.0.

Can we campaign to get this a proper release??? This album is timeless and I believe most that own and cherish their bootleg copy, would absolutely by an official release. He could print up a few thousand vinyl copies with some good liner notes and charge what he wants for it...I know I would cop.

Not sure. He was last signed to E1. From what I read, Interscope still holds ownership of 'Love For Sale'. If that's true, I really wish they would let him have it to officially release. Or at the very least go ahead and drop it.

Career changing had they been released. Rell definitely might not have had the drug distribution charges and would be more than the club singer he is today.
Additionally, had DannyBoy’s (It’s About Time) album been released in the 90’s, the trajectory of male r&b might have been slightly different.
