"WandaVision. Marvel Studios' 1st Disney+ show."

1st 2 episodes are up on Disney+. Glad the MCU is getting weird.

It seems like a sitcom made by David Lynch as it's sometimes very surreal, but has a dark sinister undertone to it the entire time.

Very excited to see this week to week.

Curious as to how this effects the MCU as this, LOKI, SPIDER-MAN 3, and DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS are supposedly gonna shake things up drastically. Also interested on how they act as one big story as well as separate pieces of storytelling.

i thought the 50s sitcom thing was going to be like a 5 minute scene. i havent really read up on it or watched a lot of coverage so dont know what has been said about it up til now.

im confused but its an okay watch. i keep waiting for a big reveal that puts everything into context but after 2 episodes im guessing thats going to be the final episode if that.

wonder how many people are sticking with it after the first 10 minutes or first episode.

And there’s press photos out there of Kathryn Hahn dressed up like she’s on Saved by the Bell and Olsen dressed like she’s in the early 2000s.

They also changed up the joke style a bit between the two episodes. I think it’s really cool if you’re familiar with sitcom history - like how episode one was literally a silly situation, but the second was full of stereotypes and was less broad.

Comedy from the 50s was mostly pretty weird by modern standards so it makes sense it wouldn’t land with everybody but they really nailed it.

im interested enough to keep watching. i think i just have to forget about how it all connects to the MCU and why this is even happening. just see where it goes.

i like the cast so far, i just feel like i dont have the context to understand why it exists.

i did not like the first two episodes at all. I love Kethryn Hahn too. But this was too out there for me. But I will stick with it if this is the route. I probably still wont like it. But it will make it interesting at least.

if you are heavy into Marvel it probably had a few hints on where its going.

I’m just not into Marvel like I used to be.. give me fight scenes and death, last thing I need is a sitcom setting for 2 or 3 shows.

They should have brought back Power Man & Iron Fist instead.. Or Punisher, or literally anyone.. I'm just going to skim through the next episode, and if all i see is sitcom, i think that's it for me..

Vision & Scarlet Witch have never been characters who rely on a lot of action & fight scenes.

As someone who loves Vision, I read the 2015 comic by Tom King. It's VERY different from other Marvel comics. I loved it, but I understand why those who need a lot of action wouldn't. You have to understand and appreciate the fact that Vision is a very cerebral character (the MOST cerebral character possible, considering he's an android). He has the journey of learning to be human, and that's a major part of the draw for fans of his who often find that very endearing and engaging.

There are more elements of this show that are exciting, such as the creativity of writing these characters into different sitcom eras. I find myself imagining how fun that must have been to create.

been delivered so far.
They probably shoulda just dropped the whole season at once so folks could take it all in....
That's probably another aspect that should be considered....we've all gotten used to have access to a full season in one drop so that it can be binged.... It seems like this would have been a better approach for this show. Not a lot of patience for a hyped up series that doesn't deliver on the hype in the first two episodes.... ANGTFT!

I can kind of agree with this part. Yet also, they're dealing with a new app and trying to increase subscriber count, AND the weekly format fits in with the theme of these first 2 eps. Other than that, it just may have been smart, since the hardcores will watch anyway, and they'll be there when it picks up to let everyone else know to keep watching. The show will be there to binge when it's over, AND they get their subscriber count up for Disney+. Win/win I guess. I must admit that I just wish I could binge everything now tho.

not sure if I'll finish but may, I love the MCU for the most part. I gave up on all the Marvel Netflix shows after Daredevil since there was no tie-in and just got tedious to watch. I did manage to get thru Agents of Shield which had some very good arcs and some that were hard to make it thru.

I am glad Wanda decided to just lose the terrible accent from Agents of Ultron tho. lol

Man, props to you for making it thru Agents of Shield. I love Marvel shows, but the two that were on popular network televsion (Agents of Shield and Agent Carter) just felt so watered down compared to those on streaming services or lesser know stations. Those are the only two Marvel shows I never made it through. Maybe I will one day. As for Daredevil, I thought that was A+.

I finished AOS a few weeks ago because I curious how they finally wrapped things up. There were some cool moments but you could tell that they were in a weird grey area between staying in MCU canon and telling interesting stories.

I wonder if having all the episodes available to binge would have been better for this type of show. I get the first few were mainly setup, and they may or may not work for some depending on their age or how much old or vintage TV they have seen. And I get that people's patience is a lot different now than in the past, so a slow burn and reveal set in past TV tropes may be a hard ask for some. But I think when we get through the entire series it will be something to look back on and really get it.

Annoyed by it but it’s only 30 minutes that I half way pay attention to until the last ten minutes. I refuse to do any background research or unpacking the Easter eggs type analysis with this show. It better pay off in the end, even for the uninitiated. If not, it truly is a bad show.

I love the first three eps.

Am the sitcom elements weren't exactly a secret to anyone checking in on the progress of the show. This was 100% expected.

This shit is brimming with Easter eggs and hints, and a good aftershow podcast/YouTube video makes it particularly rewarding. I'm partial to Emergency Awesome on YT for in depth breakdowns of each ep.

From what media I've seen on it, we can expect at least 2-3 more episodes following these sitcom tropes before the show breaks from it completely, and the episodes will become increasingly more intense and closer to what most would expect in terms of style and tone from the MCU.

IMO this is an excellent opener for the TV extension of these MCU characters. I love the slow burn, and I love trying to make sense of the who/what/when/where/why of it all. That's the whole point of a mystery, and big up to Marvel for taking a creatively unconventional approach.

He's my go-to for pretty much anything sci-fi/fantasy related.

All his aftershow material is great, and he does pretty insightful trailer breakdowns too.

And I'm with you on this, I was good without the added commentary and have been happy to be along for the ride, but getting all these added Easter eggs has added a lot of depth and insight into the world of Wanda Maximoff.

Two weeks straight now, beetween 6 and 8 PM on Friday, me and my boy have had a discussion about the ep, and that will continue.

He's a die hard comic head from childhood, whereas I'm more of a wiki/YouTube/cliff's notes type, and dude was fucking livid after ep 1.

He waited a few days to catch the second because he was so mad about "this Dick Van Dyke shit"😂.

We chop it up damn near daily about all kinds of shit, but this is now a convonwe can set our watch to.

Same goes.for OKP.

I get that we're conditioned for binge viewing, but I think the social element, at least for me, is far better served this way, even if we want it all, and want it now (c)

Just my two cents.

Everyone's on the same page and everyone can take it in one at a time.

Also, it's nice to have something to look forward to once Friday night hits since bars and movie theaters are still hot spots.

This actually trips me out, because I'm familiar, which means I know that there are dozwn creative, interesting directions this can go.

But if you also know about her story, I'm puzzled as to why this isn't working so far for you. This feels like some shit that just makes sense as an SW story- and they're alr3ady pulling a lot from the comics.

But my boy is all in on comics in general, and actually has a deep collection, and his reaction is similar to yours, though he's all in after ep3

i think a mix of looking at some of these nerdy videos explaining the connections and meanings to everything along with the latest episode helped. it seems the plot is moving forward now too. i think for me the first three episodes could have been combined into one 40 minute one and i would have been in from the jump.

i feel like looking at the videos kind of spoiled some things but still left enough unknown to make me want to see what happens.

supposedly episode 4 is where things start getting explained.

I want to say I will give it a shot but I cant lie.. I prolly won’t unless someone dies in glorious fashion

I’ve kinda soured on the MCU. Just lack the patience to keep up with all of it

I’ve tried to watch Winter Soldier.. fell asleep, woke up and saw the final fight

Captain Marvel... nope, fell asleep

Thor Ragnorock... nah, fell asleep

only reason I got into infinity war is because people said characters were actually dying.

It was too late in the evening for me to get into a movie or even a 1hr. episode of Handmaids Tale (which is a heavy binge watch...so needed a break). I had about 45min to spare...just enough time to finish Ep.2 & watch Ep.3. I figured if I wasn't intrigued enough by the end of Ep.2 then I wouldn't bother....

Ep.2 got wild enough to make me half way invested....Episode 3 will probably reel you in.

IMO, Winter Soldier is right there with Black Panther. Those 2 are far and away the best MCU movies.

If you like the shoot-em-up, car chase, all-out action flick, then you should give it a try.

fault, not the shows fault.

I skipped too many of the Avengers movies over the past 10 years or so (kids)...
Playing catchup has been very helpful...
I started by watching Age of Ultron after last week's episode which provided the backstory and origin for Wanda and Vision...

Watch Civil War (for the 2nd time apparently) last night, and it provided waaaaay more context for the dynamic between Wanda and Vision....

I'm gonna keep it up.

it gave us the context i was asking for, mostly. theres still some unknowns obviously. it kind of fell flat for me though. im already invested and definitely will see how it goes. i think they just did too much with episode 4. feels like that one could have been split into 2 to flesh it out more.

ill say that the sitcom parts are more entertaining than the outside world so far. im interested in how they manage going back and forth.

That's the whole point of a mystery.

That's literally the selling point, the unknown element that we find out gradually.

Each their own and all that, but this is an odd criticism for a show halfway through a season, particularly a mystery.

To release such an intricate and fleshed out show, on a weekly basis, takes so much hubris in the streaming era. Even if they released it all at once, so many would give up after episode 3 in this time of microwave plots that cater to shortened attention spans. Marvel just said fuck that and made the show the way it was supposed to be made.

That said, episdoe 4 finally started to reveal what's going on with the old school television style of previous episodes and even why things were happening as they were therein. Anyone who was watching the breakdowns from Emergency Awesome would've already known a lot of this, but the execution was really cool.

*spoilers*

I particularly like the way the episodes skipped when something occurred that Wanda didn't like and made an "edit." Then we get to meet Monica Rambeau aka Captain Marvel and find out that she's actually Geraldine in the show. I can't wait to see what this woman figures out on the SWORD side of things. She seems to be pretty brilliant.

..even though some people were a bit thrown by the long play of the initial episodes, I think this was a creative introduction to the characters of the series.

Damn-near Twilight Zone-esque in some spots (esp the moments where Wanda sees Vision's true reality form).

It got progressively worse in some pretty basic ways, but even still the slow reveal of season one is an all-time season of TV, while the absolute weirdness of two and interesting psychological issues of three are still really good stuff.

I've avoided reading anything until I had a chance to watch and catch-up, did this weekend and I am reading people have found this boring?

Also, I don't see enough chatter about Wanda = Anthony Fremont.

Also, this confirms for me that weekly drops is FAR superior to dropping the whole season at once. Good shows do better when they get to weekly simmer.

The character of her brother was played by two different actors across two different movie franchises (Marvel and Fox). The actor from that scene is from Fox instead of Marvel. Everyone else in this story comes from the Marvel line. People have been wondering if Disney will bring the two universes together ever since they bought both of them a few years ago. This could be the first step.

Parents and kids have watched and re-watched that movie probably as much if not more than any of their favorite MCU movies, and now everyone is primed for the charm and intrigue of "here's this character you know, only he lived another life"

The Spider-Man video games, as well, featuring Miles and Peter in the same city dealing with the same villains under the same moniker. If I'm a DC exec I'm fuming over all this and doubling down on the angsty garbage because at least that's a unique kind of watchable separate from the fun "who cares - you all care!" worldview of the MCU.

Multiverses used to be such a geeky, niche thing that it's crazy to now see it palatable to the mainstream.

And DC is known for its multiverse, but they fucked up out of the gate so badly that they're still recovering.

It's crazy to me that the DC CW shows aren't afraid to get weird and geeky. They've done their multiverses so well for shows primarily aimed at young adults. Melodrama and all.

they were absolutely genius in capturing the writing, acting, visuals, music and themes of 50s, 60s and 70s television. They really put ALOT of work and details in...i was giddy through all of them...the nosy neighbor popping up, the awkward 'boss is coming over for dinner' episodes, the 'wife is accidentally inappropriately dressed in front of guests' trope..they fucking nailed every bit of it...wow

this show is brilliant...now i gotta go back and watch Age of Ultron again

i was really hoping they would do mid/early 90s. seems like the style they went with could had worked for 2000's.

i have questions but ones that im cool on seeing how they get answered moving forward.

The slow burn here is part of the appeal. We get an ebb and flow that we wouldn't get in a movie.

Sure, it could have made a very good movie.

Instead, we got greatz event-level, appointment TV in the middle of a pandemic.

This story absolutely warrants a longer tv show, regardless of whether or not every episode gets you all OMG HOLY SHIT WOWSERS.

And as with every episode, this is densely packed with detail.

It could.have been a movie, sure. Should have? Not at all.

-Vision's in like 5 minutes of it, and all of it hits. Watching him die again was rough.

-We got to see the twins' powers. Billy is already off the charts.
-Darcy, aoing with most of the base, has entered the Hex.
-WV doubles as Monica's Photon origin, and we got a big piece of that.

-The townspeople at the edges being turned into human NPC's was a fucked up reveal. Shades of Purple Man's Jessica Jones scenes. That's a particularly horrifying power.

Pietro and Wanda keep us guessing with slightly conflicting memories, Pietro knows what she's doing. I love that they're slowly unpacking that. They also used this to show us that Wanda doesn't really know how she wound doing this, further teasing out some other entity pulling these strings.

LOVE the swerve of not getting the expected 90s Full House ep. I'm a he Malcolm fan, and they nailed those elements right down to the music cues. I loved it.

We get little things, like Pietro calling the kids "demon spawn", another Mephisto reference.

Who is Monica's contact?

A lesser shows would have had Pietro rush Wanda and the boys to the edge of town. But nope- we get another massive flex of Wanda's power.

This was a high calorie ep.

There's definitely too much for a movie, a movie would've been really rushed-- but it's gonna end up around four and a half hours, and there's too much here imo where they're dragging their feet to run out the clock until the big moments later in the episodes.

And all the big moments work, and so much of the show works (Monica in particular), that it definitely leaves me wondering how much greater it could've been with even just one episode of tightening.

Your opinion is that it's too long because...

Drumroll...

... you didn't care for one ep, and "already knew something g was off about Agnes".

We got a drop, a taste, a hint, a whiff of it, for 6 eps.

And then, in the third to last ep, they confirmed one thing they've been hinting all season- with two eps left for more- and bigger- revelations.

That sounds like a well-structured and executed mystery.

You haven't said anything that remotely justifies your "should have been a movie" stance- and that's why that stance doesn't make sense.

122. "Great ep. I don't see this as a dipn the slightest."
In response to Reply # 0

It's ddefinity a transitional ep, but we got so much.

Vision's in like 5 minutes of it, and all of it hits.

One of my admittedly minor gripes about the show is not giving both Wanda and Vision more to do. It's hard to do that when Wanda's whole motivation has been (seemed to be, anyhow) to stay in this world and avoid the outside, and Vision's whole motivation has been "what's going on here?" I've thought the stuff outside the Hex, especially Monica's stuff, has been easily my favorite stuff on the show, because they have clear goals to accomplish, new obstacles, new emotions, etc.

And in the Malcolm episode, you don't just get the good stuff outside the Hex, you get Wanda dealing with Pietro's appearance and Vision trying to get out of the Hex. New obstacles, new goals. It just felt like an episode of progression, which is, to me, always more satisfying.

I have no clue how I would "rank" the episodes, lol. I just really enjoyed the Malcolm one a lot.

has never been more in sync than that last episode, I'll give it that

I just thought the 80s one was so perfectly executed

I don't mind them having little to do, it's leaning into what I've always wanted from MCU/Star Wars etc....a story that practically has nothing to do with the other stuff.

their TV life is so much weirder than anything that could ever be in a marvel movie

The first couple weeks when Disney+ was completely new there was one point in each episode when the video would freeze while the audio kept going. Haven’t had that issue since those first couple episodes of Mandalorian though, on any of my devices (Fire Cube, PS4, Apple TV.

You see her in Wind River, Ingrid Goes West or Martha Marcy May Marlene and it's kind of surprising considering how boring her Scarlet Witch role was in the movies. Most everybody got to find their pocket but she got stuck doing the same dumb stuff Godzilla forced her to do, looking past the camera all worried all the time. Plus that brief bad accent and all the *waves hands* goofiness.

kind of feels like episode 4. it explains a lot set up a lot. almost feels like they tried to explain too much but not a big deal.

if next week is the last episode i am now wondering how they will end it. seems like too much up in the air still to wrap up in one episode but im sure they will pull it off.

another end credit scene for anyone that didnt catch it.

Really excited to see where Vision goes from here.

Very excited to see how DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS picks up the threads left behind here especially with the 2nd post-credits scene.

First post-credits scene sets up CAPTAIN MARVEL 2 perfectly.

With that said, I still feel like this could've been 2 episodes shorter.

Hope FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER delivers in 2 weeks.

See y'all for BLACK WIDOW.

...much, is that it didn't fanboy out. I have been inundated on social media with speculations. Clickbait after clickbait post with titles guessing at every obscure Marvel character and story line folks could think of.

Marvel clearly chocked every episode full of Easter eggs intentionally, and I was scared the finale was going to be a muddled mess of cameos, cliffhangers and deus ex machina.

It was none of that, and I'm glad.

For what it ultimately was. And I was happy to have 6-7 hours of new MCU. But this could’ve been upper mid-tier as a movie and instead it’s kind of repetitive and drawn out as a TV show. Too many loose threads also, and I did NOT pay attention to speculation at all. There’s just very basic stuff this show teased and forgot about, all the way down to White Vision’s current motives/location.

BTW, “White Vision”. Is that it’s official title, even now? I think we can do better.
