"Talking cars on a Tuesday"

I either made a really bad purchase or a really good one
And as I sit here worrying about it I'm sharing that shit to okp
Because I'm too embarrassed to tell my friends and family.

So I have an i3, I love it and then as a family we have a 2014 Civic
Before the i3 I had a Scion TC. I have a thing for small cars because a majority of the time it's just you in it.

Then baby 1 came and getting that car seat in and out was tough, so we drove that Civic a lot. And it doesn't have a go. Plus we were looking to be a bit outdoorsy and that was before COVID hit, now we don't want to be around nobody.

Then baby 2 came along and two car seats is a car filler. Right now we can do a road trip or an adventure trip, but not both. We either pack a pack and play and stroller, or bikes and skateboards and colors.

So I was looking for more room AND a 4x4 because I'd love to drive on the beach.

Well I found one from a dealership
online
200 miles away :-\
but I think they were going to send it to auction. Looking at the maintenance history it's been serviced every 3k miles and it has low miles.
But dag ... like who buys a car online without touching it or seeing it with their own eyes. They sent me video of everything. But man.
Worst case, I can sell it for parts or sell it outright at the price.

They were the last of a dying breed of rugged, unique looking SUVs before everyone went all "crossover"

The maintenance records look promising...and if you got it for a good price, then it could easily be a come up.

so, just understand that it’s going to have shit go wrong with it...and you’ll be good. Every car/manufacturer has its inherent issues. I will say, you did dodge the worst year of the Xterra. 2005-2006 was an absolute nightmare for that joint.

Enough tech to not be dated or unsafe
But little enough tech so that it's still familiar and affordable.

I'll go down to the 90s for a under 2k beater if needed, but I don't remember anything good coming out of that 98 to 2007 time frame.

The most memorable thing was Saturn "came out" and folks were trying some neo retro, but nothing I can remember about quality.

It's already being paid for.
I'll wait to listen to it run in person before I take it to anyone to see what I'll need to fix.

The idea is that this is a road trip car, so I'm not spending too much money on it. Just that it's safe, spacious, and can do all of the things.

In response to Reply # 0

I just realized a few days that I've been giving people an easy pass into my house through the garage when I park outside.

I assumed that the garage door opener in the car only works when the key is in it. I mean, that makes perfect sense, security-wise.
But nope. Don't need a key at all. So someone could bust out the window, press the button, and waltz in the house through the garage.

So I just deprogrammed it. But it makes no sense. Why in the world would it need to be always powered on?

I’ve seen some that were powered on at all times and some that weren’t. So, someone had the thought to run it through the ignition, while some are connected to b+. I also had someone tell me that it was always powered, for memory reasons, but we disproved that one, at a dealership I used to work at.

She went to Alabama to visit her dad before Turkey Day and was only supposed to be gone 2 weeks tops. Didn't make it back until after Xmas. The battery was toast. 2 jumps later I had to take her to Autozone and get another one on warranty exchange. Had she left the keys with me it may have been fine. But nooooooooo.....

Loved the process, that said she did have a week to change her mind.

Never thought we'd be the couple to have his and her cars but now we have 2014 Tesla Model S 85s in different colors, dark green and dolphin gray. She's always had a manual so it kinda blows my mind she's gone full golf cart.

There’s no scratches on the roof rack and the top storage has clearly never been opened. No scratches on the skid plates either. Dude drove this thing like a daily driver.

Then I'll drive it. I hear a slight ticking, but that's in idle.
There's tire light on but it was also 30 this morning. I inflated a bit, but I didn't want to overdo it

On the trunk bend, which is plastic, there's no scratches either.
I have an appointment Monday to put it up in the air and get a deep look at it, but, so far so good.

Needed alignment. Cabin filter change and I’m got the transmission fluid flushed. Other than that. No problems.

Sigh of relief.
