i kinda get what you mean though.

i think this was pretty great. more of an ep since theres only 8 tracks if we count the intro. the tales definitely add some good context though. more of a challenge/discussion jump off on sexuality than just being "thoty". this will stay in rotation.

i hope more people check it out.

I’ve been alternating between the EP and the Tiny Desk concert.

I would’ve bet that James Fauntleroy did “The Other Side” or at least wrote it, but he didn’t. Still probably my favorite on there.

And have enjoyed listening to his album introducing.

Good switch up from current music.

An ode to a different era much like how Sylvie’s Love is.

Still have to get all the way through in one listen, but for a Sunday morning album, this hits perfect

i didnt know what to expect but i love it. first half kind of reminds me of alabama shakes. not necessarily that its the same style but close enough to fit in nicely on the same playlist. second half is a bit more old school soul. overall i think its great. might like it more than anything that came out in 2020. it did lose a little steam in parts of the last 5 songs or so but no duds.

after one listen its a 5/5 for me. after repeat listens i could see a couple of tracks towards the end bringing it down a bit. well see though.

i think im going to buy the vinyl. i was confused on how someone could have such a polished debut with merchandise as well. looks like hes part of another band, Durand Jones & the Indications. he also made this album with dan auerbach of the black keys.

https://www.npr.org/2021/01/10/955052761/on-introducing-aaron-frazer-contemplates-love-and-the-road-ahead

definitely an album everyone should check out. thanks for the heads up.

came out today. he worked with some other producers. still the same vibe. a bit more hit and miss for me than his usual stuff but overall he still has some dope short tracks in here. the whole thing is only 15 minutes.

emotionally dumb kinda hitting right now.

In response to Reply # 23

Been waiting for that Arlo album for a minute, I loved her singles but it's very cohesive so far

Lala &ce - Everything Tasteful. Very hypnotic, she raps in French but her tracks are such a mood that there's a universality to them

For the record, my teams:
MLB: Mets / Soccer: PSG
NCAA BB: Arizona / NCAA FB: Michigan
NBA: Spurs / NFL: Jets

I dug the singles, but having a full album with such little vocal variation gets pretty stale. And that's when the writing starts to seem pretty trite as well.

Also don't think I'm digging Celeste's album as much a I'd hoped to either.

Apart from "Eugene" I hadn't heard anything from her before, but these songs are both catchy and super well written. A lot of interesting, non-cliche relationship angles as well as a few focused on depression/mental health from both the perspective of one suffering as well as one trying to help their friend overcome their darkness.

This one is going to be in my Top 10 at the end of the year for sure.

kind of sounds similar to Lianne La Havas to me (sorry if thats an insult to either of them) but slightly more to my pleasing. not sure why but i enjoyed this one more than liannes album last year. not by a whole lot. theres something about it that keeps me from loving all of it but not sure what it is. almost each song i was going back and forth between this is good and this is great.

i feel like this will end up near the bottom of my recommend albums at the end of the year. just one listen in so we will see.

I think listening to that and a few other R&B/soul albums from the last few years is what caused Arlo to pop up on my Spotify suggestions.

I'm going to try to do this each month. Didn't get to listen to the Rhettmatic yet, but I will. I also need to go through singles.

Only a few albums I think I will come back to from January. Anything I rated over a 4 will get another listen in full. I will probably only revisit any songs I liked from the rest. I am (notoriously?) generous with my ratings, these are on a 5/5 scale. 5 is 100%, 4.5 is 90%/A, 4 is a B, 3 C, 2 D, 1 F. These scores are after one listen and just an average of the score I gave each song on the album.

I expect all of these to go down after repeat listens except for maybe the Aaron Frazer. The Jazmine one I already find myself not liking as much when songs come on from it. Droog usually looses replay value with me. Pretty sure that Griselda one will come down more, I don't even remember anything from it. I'm not big on instrumental albums so sorry Madlib/Alchemist fans.

Anything over 4.5 on this list I do recommend giving at least one listen. If you have something you love and don't see on here please name it as I am obviously sleeping on it.

Tha God Fahim & Your Old Droog - Tha Wolf On Wall St 5.000
Aaron Frazer - Introducing... 5.000

Was super let down by this one. No Conway was a bad sign. Haven't went back to this once since my first listen through. I did like "Hurt Business" though.

A couple hip hop projects I dug that you didn't have listed:

Nyck Caution (of Pro Era) - Anywhere But Here
Erick The Architect (of Flatbush Zombies) - Future Proof (EP)

Neither blew me away but both had some quality material.
