"Pulling into a strangers driveway"

I sit by the window of my house like Ms. Pearl right now.
It's where my office is and my driveway is right there.

This morning the neighbhor had people come over to clean his house.
First white lady pulled into my driveway to park in a different direct.
Second asian lady pulled into my driveway, parked there to set up her GPS and then took off after I opened the garage door.

Then as I was typing this a grey truck just pulled into the neighbors across the streets house to do a u-turn.

And, is this just a thing people do?

I ask because I've read about one too many shootings from pulling onto someone's property that I'm extremely diligent about not doing so. But maybe that's not a thing and maybe that's just me being precautionarily paranoid.

... someone's driveway ? It's safer than doing a 3+ point turn in the street and does the homeowner zero harm.

Even enforce.
It’s madness to have to keep a running encyclopedia of things that may get me shot by a white person but then not even to be able to live in my own house with that same rule set.

On a related note, I've been listening to a podcast called "Driving the Green Book." It's a great pod because it tells the story from a purely Black perspective and focuses on the positive familial and cultural memories and relationships that were born out of the road trips and stops the Black people of that time period had to make.

But obviously none of that takes away from the underlying madness you speak of, the fact that a damn book (or "running encylopedia") of "safe spaces" for traveling Black folks needed to fucking be created in the first place.

A quick 3 point turn using someone’s driveway is normal to me. Going to someone’s house for the first time, looking at the addresses, accidentally passing your destination and then doing a U turn to get back to the correct house. More safe than doing a U turn in the street itself.

But parking in a random driveway? Nah, even if you’re setting your GPS just do they parked on the side of the street, not in a driveway.

I go out of my way to avoid doing that. That they did it so casually irked the fuck out of me.

That I have to live with that paranoia outside of my house and they could just pull up to my house without it pissed me off.

Noticed this some years ago. Poor black folk and wealthy white people alwqays outside or looking out the windows. Every time I'm in a rich neighborhood it's like 3-5 people out on the block looking at me all suspiciouly... just like the hood.

and that could be why people just pull in and take their time backing out.

I would think people would be less aggressive if they lived in a community with a gate but people be trippin these days.. and its Texas.

any car that you don’t recognize you start to feel like they shouldn’t be in there - even though there are many reasons why they would legitimately be driving through. Visiting a friend, DoorDash/GrubHub, etc.

I'm convinced that this (along with parking on the street when you got a driveway) is some foul east coast northerner shit.....

Where EYE grew up, in North Carolina, this was the type of shit that was generally understood to be kinda rude.... It's the main reason we're taught the 3-point turn in drivers ed....
but I've noticed it is pretty much standard operation up here in the DMV...

EYE don't do it, because I'm not a dirty mouth breathing savage....

my neighbor totally hates me. he put up this raggedy little fence to prevent me from driving on his property. I back in my driveway and sometimes I can end up on his lawn, especially if it snows.

my dad would match it up...

while I don’t mind people parking in front of my house for short periods of time my white neighbor used to park in front of my house intentionally.

Maybe it was because they were cool with the owners before us but it was passive aggressive af. When they parked on the grass tho, I had to let them know and that was the last time they did it.

Garage, driveway and all that house out front but my house looked more inviting? FOH

As some have said, I feel like it’s safer than a 3pt turn in the street

But I’m not pulling in to your driveway, rolling up to your front door, and then turning around

It’s the front tires...that it.

The entire car in your driveway = doing it wrong

My front tires are in your driveway, and I’m reversing out

You wanna burst through the front door and chase my car like a dawg...good luck with that...I’m out.

What pisses me off is the intentional design of roadways making u-turns illegal and impossible

I missed my turn, my bad

Next light, no u-turn sign

Make the legal turn, and that street has a concrete divider... and I have to keep driving until I can turn again

F alladat, I’m busting out this u-turn right quick in your driveway

Call your local representative to complain.

first 2 wheels a bit over the actual driveway if i really need the room, but I cant recall pulling deep into someone's driveway.

i mean, i've been driving forever including a couple stints where i had to drive for a living, so odds are I have done it? i just can't think of when/why.

most the streets here have a small patch of dirt then the sidewalk then the drive way/yard begins. so if i need to pull into a drive way its really only the tires going up to where the sidewalk is. maybe my bumper will hang over the drive way. not sure ive ever had to do more than that and i dont linger. i might pull over on the street in front of someones house if i need to look something up but i try to be quick with that too.

It gets weird in places that are more suburban to me. Suburban folks always seems like they are peeking out the windows.

I don't feel weird doing it in truly rural areas because they tend to have those long-ass driveways with gates many times, so I don't come anywhere near their buidings.

I wish we were not so afraid of each other or so separated that this is an issue

aren’t really people persons..

still remember one OKP who said he took a train to a different city to party or go to a parade... a cop with red hair looked at him funny style and dude was so shook he ran, dove over a parking deck wall and jumped on the next train back home.

either he was smoking that shit or he has bodies in his freezer.
