"Nancy Pelosi with the mother of all "Hold My Beer" moments"

Madam Speaker, there's a pandemic raging uncontrollably, people are hurting financially, your messaging as leadership needs to be hold on, be safe, we're doing everything we can for you.

Nancy Pelosi:
------

House Dem and GOP leaders are holding respective dinners for new members.

.@SpeakerPelosi
told me it’s safe. “It’s very spaced,” she said and there is enhanced ventilation and the Capitol physician signed off.

It's the capital. They may have spent 20M to put that in. But hospitals do think about this. It's safer outside for this reason. Replicating that indoors is expensive but possible.

Go fuck yourself if you ACTUALLY believe Pelosi isn't doing her job.

Republicans only signed onto the first.

if you think that Republicans are doing ANYTHING in good faith, we'll after you've fucked yourself do it again, this time sideways.

Oct 2: The Democrats in the house pass a 2.2 TRILLION dollar bill. Republicans don't take up in Senate.
May 15th: The Democrats in the house pass a 3 TRILLION dollar bill.

In JANUARY it was introduced and signed into law of March 27th: The Democrats in the house pass a 2.2 TRILLION dollar bill. Republicans sign on and the president signs it.

Nancy Pelosi having a dinner for incoming congress people is not what's stopping another stimulus bill - it's simply The Republicans.

All the incompetency in government is directly and solely due to repugnantcans' disinterest in governance. The repugs exist only to derail anything democrats want and/or try to do. They serve no other purpose, certainly no purpose that benefits The People in any way.

I personally am a “forever beefer” on the boards. But I’ve noticed that the temperature is up on opinions lately and that’s new

Like Buddy and Reaction could literally post the exact same thing and I’d respond to them dramatically different.

One of the greatest parts of the boards, familiarity, is withering away. And that sucks.

The original portion of the this post is that Nancy Pelosi and the democrats are holding a welcome party for incoming members of congress, and that it is bad.

See the level of stupid outrage the first line is:
>>>Madam Speaker, there's a pandemic raging uncontrollably, people are hurting financially, your messaging as leadership needs to be hold on, be safe, we're doing everything we can for you.

First, we don't know what effort are being taken to keep it safe. Certainly there are millions of people working in close quarters still but it immediately critisizies Nancy Pelosi for it.

If the sports teams are important enough to take risks like this then so is congress. But not in the way The Republicans have been doing it - look at their example: Party, get it, then tell people to be happy that they lived. (And simply never mention those how die ever again.)

We'd ALL be able to have get together if a national effort was put into place to control the outbreak and provide rapid testing for a large number of people to happen repeatedly.

Maybe they're doing that? We don't know from 1 tweet that sparked your "HOLD MY BEER" moment of righteous outrage.

For the record: I'd forgo this party if I was in charge - but I am differently much more in favor of a lockdown than ANYONE in congress is. But the DO have to caucus together and they are working inside a building together.

Then THIS ASSHOLE posts this in post 1 Hey that's YOYU!!!)

>fucking around for moths and months on a stimulus, as folks are >choosing between rent and groceries. Instead of swallowing their >grudges and pride and working to get something done for the people of >the country...this is the type of stupid shit they focus on.

I assume you mean the Democracts are fucking around on a stimulus while other people are hurting and then they want to throw a party instead. So if they looked to their right computer screen they'd see a way to get stimulus out, and if they look at their left computer monitor they'd see their E-vite to a bitch party - and that they are turning their heads left.

Was I wrong? Are you suggesting the media swallow the grudges and pride? What the FUCK are you talking about???

The DEMOCRATIC LEAD house PASSED 2 stimulus bills after the first one - each NOT filled with insane unrelated shit. And REPUBLICANs REJKECTED for political purposes and cravenness.

So have a fucking get together for new members of congress in their party ISN'T STOPPING THEM FORM DOING SHIT - it's LITERALLY all dependent on the Republicans.

But you posting here like so low level bar comedian deserves sincere scorn.

Stay well.

As long as people here think there’s simply white hat heroes and black hat villains in politics, there’s gonna be a lot of shenanigans. There’s entirely too many stories of people doing things like this. If I was working as a blue and constantly sticking it the reds and Dee Tee, I’d run my shit tight af.

I’d like to take some time to read THE WHOLE proposed stimulus packages. I worry that both parties are guilty of trying to sneak shit in instead of just saying ‘broke folks who have been screwed by covid, here’s some money. Almost broke folks, here’s some money too. Businesses, check this out. If you just bought a PlayStation, Xbox, iPhone, or big ass tv, you good’. I could be wrong but with these folks, who knows.

This doesn’t make the Democratic Party the good guys. But the Republicans are overwhelmingly the bad guys

The reason the first package did so much for big business and not the people ... Republicans

The reason the last package isn’t moving, Republicans haven’t put their bill up for a vote and won’t take the House one up either.

None of this makes the Democratic Party the good guys. But you can’t compare plans if the other side refuses to even put up one.

This is generally where I stand. And the cesspool of websites, podcasts, channels and now apps devoted to the reds is impressively terrible. And there's a strong belief in what they're selling: the least oppressed group of assclowns in history swear they aren't getting a fair shake because now instead of things being totally rigged in their favor, things are only somewhat rigged but occasionally someone else gets a turn for a bit sometimes. Oh and the media teases them and their rich/powerful pawpaw sometimes for being casually terrible.

And you're very right: poo pooing an offer doesn't work if you don't have a counter offer.

It’s one thing to come up with expensive ,creative ways to ensure safety for political meetings and congressional sessions, but it’s another to utilize those efforts for an unnecessary social gathering, when millions of Americans are going through enormous financial hardship.

I wouldn't mind members of congress owning stocks in the form of an index fund or blind trust. I also think congress people should somehow recuse themselves when they have conflicts of interest based on their business interest.

But beyond confilcit of interest, I think its criminal to trade on insider knowledge that a congress person may have.

Articles like this don't make that distinction and then you have the stories about Dems sound exactly like the stories about republicans.

Your response implies that these 200+ people are accused of violating insider trading laws. I'll ask you, what are all these people exactly stand accused of doing?

49 members of Congress and 182 senior congressional

trading

So you’re saying that’s okay because it doesn’t prove insider trading, just a violation of a law intended to prevent insider trading by elected officials…?

The 49 members of Congress and 182 senior congressional staffers who violated the act did not violate the Act by insider trading, but rather violated the Act (or more accurately were not in compliance with the Act) by filing late paperwork.

https://www.businessinsider.com/congress-stock-act-violations-penalties-consequences-2021-12

To treat their violations as tantamount to insider trading is not doing anyone any good.

I don't know if you actively withheld that important piece of information or didn't know it.

Look I don't want to spend a lot of time defending congress people but you can't have any good discussion on these topics unless you get the facts right.

Long story short we asked congress at a minimum to disclose their shit, and they can't even fucking do that. And if they don't there's almost zero accountability.

These people were late filing paperwork. Our system is going to go to shit if we equate late filing with actual insider trading. This is how Fox News eats.

41. "I honestly think I'm done with Dems"
In response to Reply # 30
Thu Dec-16-21 02:48 PM by Stadiq

Anyone who has interacted with me knows I think Dems are a combination of incompetent/ out of touch/ corrupt/ etc.

But I still played ball. I still donated. Still volunteered. Still defended them. Still tried to focus on the bright side.

I'm not on some 3rd party shit because that is a losing battle.

I'm not on some "both parties are the same" shit either, because that isn't true.

BUT

They aren't AS different as some want to tell themselves.

On the stuff that matters-

very little significant to absolutely nothing on:

- voting rights
- addressing Jan 6th (either through expelling members of congress or structural changes)
- climate
- guns
- immigration/dreamers/ remain in Mexico
- supreme court
- making Roe law of the land
- etc etc

They are fucking up this pandemic. Spiked the ball with vaccines and gave mixed/fucked messages. Failed to do enough to help vaccinate the world. Refused to waive patents. Now variants will set us back a year at least. Fucking Trump gave more financial pandemic relief.

Fucked up the honeymoon phase and passed nothing significant. Held off on BBB until after withdrawing from a war.

Approval sinking with independents, youth, etc.

Meanwhile the military budget flew through without any type of debate. This ya'll party?

And on top of all the shit they have failed to address, they are fucking awful at this. The optics are shit.

Nancy has gone full Arrested Development Lucille Bluth. Officiating Billionaire weddings draped in gold. Getting her hair blown in the middle of shutdowns. Yelling "free market" at a stock trading question.

Jesus christ, what could a banana cost, 10 dollars?

Biden is MIA on selling BBB. Kamala can't have a public appearance without saying some stupid shit.

White house is laughing at the idea of sending COVID tests.

Other Dems have had everything from lavish wine parties to high priced fund raisers etc.

Progressives folded on pairing BBB with inf, and now that is probably dead. And I'm not impressed with St Bernard's tweets or Liz's media appearances bitching about it.

Fucking do something! Crazy how Manchin can hold up the entire party, but the "progressive" senators can't.

They are fucking elitist and will be strictly the party of college campuses and tech start ups within a couple years. Shit, they are already.

If they actually gave a shit about Black people, women, working class, unions, etc and delivered? And were half-decent at politics? They would run the table- even in our fucked up system.

All the shit that people worked for- specifically the past couple years- its maddening.

And they will do it again. They'll get curb stomped in a year. They'll raise a bunch of money in the process off scare tactics...and then even more after the fact.

Its not just Manchin or Sinema. Manchin is the villain on BBB, Sinema will play it on voting rights. They party is not what it could/should be because of ego, money, etc.

The consistently choose business, donors, contractors, banks (word to Obama) etc over the people they claim to care about.

Again, the pandemic is still raging and about to get worse. Voting rights gutted. Mass shootings almost every day. Wealthy still pay less taxes than you and me. Climate crumbling. Military cashing checks. Nothing on Roe. Nothing for dreamers. Tax rates still unfair. On and on and on.

But hey its a free market economy!! Yeah!

bUt BuT tHe GoP iS WOrsE

I'm fucking tired of fighting for them. They are not worth it.

If the GOP wasn't so fucking evil, Democrats would have nothing to run on/raise money off of when you think about it.

Always a villain for Democrats to blame. The GOP. Manchin. Sinema. Centrists. Progressives. Leiberman. A "stolen supreme court" (that they do nothing about).

Some appointed career parliamentarian in the senate.

oh and voters. It will be voters fault when they get mollywhopped.

the only reason they got youngkin as a candidate in va is because the party eliminated normal primaries (imagine if dems did that) and instead uses some convoluted nomination convention thing with about 30 locations for the entire state and a bunch of ranked/weighted machinations with their voting. basically tipping the scale toward more moderate candidates and away from the type of extreme candidates their base in va supports.

Not motivated to do shit. Unable to even capitalize on the other side attempting to overthrow the government. LMAO

Can't get together on shit. Joe is cutting off relief right as Omnicron is coming through to destroy the buildings.

To answer your question though, probably most individual stock purchases by lawmakers do not constitute insider trading.

A lot of rich people get early access to IPOs and zillions of other favorable investments. That could well have more to do with the average net worth of lawmakers, especially senators, than insider access.

The FEC looks at individual trades when collecting evidence of insider trading - it only takes one trade to convict. I still don't see what the stocks you mentioned have to do with anything. Most of them IPOed before Pelosi was elected.

unfortunately

I was tasked with obtaining specs/pricing on some air purifiers that will be placed in some of our offices where there's interaction with the public.

I talked to our Safety and Compliance Officer and he had a FIT:

"...that's never going to work, those things don't filter enough air per sq. ft./per person...yadda yadda..."

he's not wrong, but we're still going to order them because we can't get all the Head Clerks to come back to work unless it LOOKS LIKE it's safe and it LOOKS like we're doing something about it.

*shrug*

"It's very spaced" "It's safe" "We're doing everything we can for you"

I'm not surprised at all.

theyre obviously hyper aware how these things play out publicly, but they can't avoid the simplest of unforced errors.

then when they lean into it you get shit like this https://c.files.bbci.co.uk/13EA3/production/_112817518_gettykente976.png

on a meter out of touch arrogance and out of touch cluelessness its hard to know exactly where some of these people fall.

53. "its baffling how unprepared dems are for these types of questions/answer..."
In response to Reply # 44

they still havent figured out that a non-answer or otherwise vague answer that doesnt generate negative headlines...is better than an off the cuff answer that sounds like shit and gives people ample opportunity to attack you.

theres a reason why mcconnell gives bland ass answers to the press like 'itll be interesting to see where things go' or 'we are certainly taking a look at it', etc. theres a reason why repubs go radio silent when something negative to them happens...then they go huddle in a room for a while and all come out with the same exact messaging.

like 90% of the gop attack strategy now is just taking dem impromptu quotes and using them to anger conservatives, anger the dem base against the dem, etc.

its like dems dont know how the information flow in 2021 works (they obviously dont because they dont return fire on repubs with the same exact tactics). they still think its the 1990s and you just do stuff throughout the year...and then during election time...everyone is gonna tune in to the news and hear you make your case and choose the best candidate. they still dont realize (like repubs clearly do) that public perception is shaped 24/7 and you gotta wake up every single day and land/dodge hits on/from your opponent and push people toward your side of an ongoing persistent narrative.

dems went from the party of the future when obama got elected...to the party that has to ask its grandkids to program the vcr.

They were awful during Obama too. They got curb stomped under him.

Obama and his campaign were excellent at winning Obama elections, nothing else.

Half the reason we are in this mess is because the Obama admin failed to deliver and create a generation of loyal democrats. A once-in-a-generation or more candidate was given super majorities and a crumbling opposition party and fucked it up within a year.

They COULD have been the party of the future, but democratted shit up.

He'll tell you himself they fucked up selling ACA.

And that was a Republican healthcare plan. LOL Every time I hear/see a Democrat apologist bitch about the Senate mix, I die inside. There are just never enough Democrats in the Senate to do actual Democrat shit. Crazy how that works.

You care more about Democrats than they care about you my man.

In response to Reply # 44

clearly liberal academics are shitty at relaying things to people at the street level. anyone who used to watch those black state of the union forums with people like cornel west, tavis smiley, etc would tell you its an obvious issue on the black side as well.

even that pic you posted. you know some jack and jill ass black consultant told them thats what they should do. the knee *and* kente cloth combo would be powerful (like the kente cloth wasnt already a meme on social media for a reason).

not only does it show how out of touch the strategists are...there still isnt any real calculation to what theyre doing. like...even if youre gonna go all in on performative shit like that...and you really only care about how everything *looks*...wouldnt you at least make the kneelers overwhelmingly black (like mostly cbc members) with white members sprinkled in...so it at least looks like pelosi, etc are being *led* by black people in this gesture...instead of looking like a bunch of white people just pandering to black voters?
