"Poll question: Thanksgiving Turkey or something else?"

My aunt (RIP) was not a fan of turkey so her and her kids would roast a chicken. There has been at least one Thanksgiving that I spent alone and I did salmon. But for the most part we do a small turkey or a couple game hens.

Extra question: Do you guys eat turkey wings the rest of the year? My mom has always cooked these with either rice or egg noodles - it is delicious! But outside of KC I haven't had good luck finding turkey wings in the grocery store when it is not Thanksgiving shopping time. Rarely found them in LA. Never see them in STL. Might be more of a neighborhood thing and less of a city thing, but I was just wondering.

they dried up, a bit when the pandemic hit...they're out there, though. Walmart stopped having them and never seemed to get anymore. I usually get luckiest at Dierberg's...so, when I see them, I grab several packs. Schnuck's is clutch, sometimes, too.

I feel confident we live in different areas based on the tornado thing that touched down a few years back and what you posted about damage in your neighborhood. Out this way, I can't find them. But I will keep looking. When I was home in KC last week my mom randomly fixed this for dinner and I ate too much just based on the fact that it had been so long.

and got 2 racks of ribs and several pounds of burnt ends. It was a good look. We just kinda did whatever we wanted with the sides. I was laid up watching football in a food coma, but damn, it was worth it.

we make them the same as your family. I had a hard time finding them when I lived in Charlotte - I could find the legs but not the wings. There’s a difference in taste, to me...

funny, my mother picked up some today (for thanksgiving) she came in fussing about how the price went up. lol

and go all out on the sides: garlic mash potatoes, roasted veggies, wild rice, biscuits from scratch, mushroom gravy, green beans, and usually something non-traditional like asian slaw with peanut dressing, and sometimes vegan pumpkin cheesecake (if I'm able to make it ahead of time cus it takes a day to set)

Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday.

from on a regular day. That is how I would do it! In my town that would be either Pi Pizzeria or Dewey's Pizza. These are not places I would just order from on a regular Tuesday night, such at Dominoes or Pizza Hut.

We usually do traditional turkey, dressing, greens etc for Thanksgiving. For the Christmas holiday we do something different. I'm not ready for another turkey dinner that soon.

We have like 363 days to eat all that other shit but people are like “I’m tired of turkey dinner on that one day so I’m eating lasagna”

Just cracks me up because how many people eat turkey dinners at random times during the year that it gets to be overkill for thanksgiving?

I don’t even think about turkey unless I slip up and get turkey deli slices.

It’s called Landmark.

That shit is slamming. Almost forgot I used to order it once or twice during the year at random times.

I’ve been planning our dinner in my head. I don’t want to spend all day cooking so I’m thinking of my cheat code. Might hit up a few soul food spots for sides to save on time.

That Trader Joe’s Mac n Cheese is slamming too so may just get a few of those. So lazy yet so efficient.

The turkey has usually been my responsibility over the years. My brother buys a Honeybaked Ham and everyone else contributes various sides.

A few elders would make chitterlings and various other dishes that have pretty much faded from the family menu as they've passed on. My late Mom was the last of the chitlin' cookers.

Honestly, no one really eats the turkey too much, day of. But, everyone takes some home, and the rest of the week I look forward to turkey sandwiches.

My wife absolutely loves a traditional thanksgiving dinner, so that's what we've done, with Christmas usually being something else entirely. Lasagna one year, a red beans and rice w/grilled chicken and cornbread another year, enchiladas another.

She's vegan now, so I have no clue what to expect.

My daughter refuses to eat much outside of her standard staples, and my son couldn't care less about a turkey.

I may go all the way rogue this year and do homemade flatbread pizzas or some shit.

because no one really likes regular turkey. This year we're making a whole roasted salmon, cornish hens, and several pasta dishes. I do like turkey wings with beans and rice. We make it once a month or so. I get mine from the Farmer's Market.

- I usually don't care about holiday's one way or the other
- I lost more than one family member this year and both were stressful circumstances
- COVID 19
- I am furloughed for the Thanksgiving week

I don't understand why I am suddenly so excited about this holiday. Logically I shouldn't be.

usually we have a big dinner but this year it’s only 4 of us and 2 toddlers.

Going to get a few quick sides from Trader Joe’s or Publix and cook a small ass turkey and maybe a few pieces of ham.

I used to scoff at people who ordered out on Thanksgiving but I’m all about some heat and serve. Might cop a frozen pasta from a local shop too for the hell of it.
