And I'm not sure how to deal with that.
There's only one person in my closest circle that I know for sure voted Biden. I suspect they've all, except for him, either voted Trump, or in all likelihood didn't vote at all. None of them have ever overtly voiced support for a particular candidate, or party, but they rarely discuss politics at all.
But I've seen a lot of FB posts, talking about how people shouldn't judge someone based on who they vote for, we're all entitled to our own opinions, we should all show respect to one another regardless of our differences, etc- followed by a few comments about how Biden is stealing the election.
They, with the one noted exception, are all still christians, and considering the church they attend, I'm reading the tea leaves.
We've drifted quite a bit over the years, but this sort of seals that deal for me. It is what it is. I see them quite differently now. I could be wrong, one of them is an LPR, not a citizen, and his parents are LPR's, but voicing displeasure as it seems Biden might pull ahead is a strong indicator IMO.
The one that's messing with me the most isn't in that circle, but we're closer than I am to that circle, right today. He's made some comments about Biden stealing the election, the media being shifty when it looked like like Trump was about to win, etc.
He's relatively conservative, but it genuinely surpised me that he appears to be a Trump supporter. I kind of want to ask him, but I won't.
Other friends proudly voted for Jorgenson. We're in Cali so that didn't impact the electoral here, but it still leaves me baffled as they are all progressives, firmly and vocally anti trump. Vote your conscious and all, but getting him out should be priority number one.
Maybe it's self centered of me, maybe i'm pushing my morality onto them, or what have you, but I do not for a second believe that you and your vote are separate entities.
Your vote is who you are. Your vote is an expression of your views, a statement about the way you see the world around you, and more importantly, it's an expression of support.
So... voting for Trump is supporting Trump, and everything he stands for. I'm not sure I'm ideologically compatible with that circle anymore.
