My first day we did 4 sets of 500 meters with burpees and box jumps in between or some other exercises.

I thought the rowing would be the cool down.

But since it’s timed people are all” go go go!!!”

and I didn’t want to look like a lil bitch

I couldn’t even lift my foot to get into the car.. just fell into that shit. Luckily no one saw me.

Rafting too, if you don't want to have to put so much muscle behind the oar/paddle.

Rowing (w/ 2 oars) and canoeing w/ a paddle both work the heck out of your back and shoulders. Probably the same for rowing machines.

If I was buying for a home gym, I'd cop a full cage with a row machine built on, like this: https://www.americanfitness.net/images/products/detail/F430_w_F200.jpg

That way you could adjust the angle from overhead, front, etc. And you can use the cage for other things too.

I don't have a cage, so I do dumbbell rows and pull-ups at the park to target my back.

I haven't been back to the gym since, but I was really starting to hit my groove on it. Definitely my favorite form of cardio since it's hitting the entire body, not just my legs.

Though it is currently killing me. I took a seven month pandemic break from my gym, that is one third rowing per workout, and I'm struggling on that bitch so far. I didn't fall off on the tread as much as I did on the rower, but I'm so glad to be back. Also, a good friend of mine who lives close just got a rower for his house so I'm hoping to get a couple extra sessions in when I can. It's such a great workout. It hits 85% of your muscles. Shit is great.

because I'm way to scared to go to an indoors gym in the middle of this pandemic, but indoor rowing is a nice form of cardio that doesn't have a high impact on the joints like running on a treadmill does.

If I had the dollars, I'd love to try out a water based indoor rowing machine that uses a chamber of water as the form of resistance instead of the more common wind based ones.

Here's a link to what I'm referring to: https://www.waterrower.com/ .

In response to Reply # 22

from all the research...it seemed that the biggest advantage to the WaterRower was aesthetic & noise. It's prettier and quieter. It's won a bunch of design awards and it's definitely appealing to look at...but there's a cost premium to get that.

The Concept2 Model D seems to be the top rated across the board. It's louder....but reliability and build quality seems to be leaps and bounds above every other manufacturer...oh it's Made in USA too... it's also cheaper than WaterRower's cheapest model I think...

Both have been on back order for months though....

Amazon briefly had stock on the Model D yesterday. The wife said "Pull the trigger" so I did.... we'll see if it actually arrives...
She'll be the main one using it.... running is my jam..

and focus on generating a majority of the pull from the legs, not the the arms or back.

The rowing machine is a cardio device, which means the rowing motion should be done in repetitive fashion. Each pull should be quick and easy to perform; not something where you have to strain and use max strength with each pull.

I love stationary rowing and I acknowledge it as a great all over cardio/strength workout. However my rickity ass knees make getting down onto the rower, and moreover...getting up from it, mad awkward.

Why does it have to be inches off the ground?

I used to workout at a YMCA that had a large senior contingent. They had two rowers that sat higher off the ground. The same rowers as the other ones, just with taller legs...

Why can't they all be that high?! The rowers at my current gym are damn near flush to the floor. I'd have to lay down and flop onto and off of it.
