Wife took the pregnancy tests yesterday and one today. We've been trying for almost 3 years, basically since before we got married. This is the 1st late period, 1st positive pregnancy test, now going to the OBGYN next week for blood work.

Just last week, we were talking about being ok if it doesn't happen, the world is crazy and maybe it would be besting being a double income no kids household, travel more, spoil nieces and nephews, be selfish with our wants and keep it moving. Now though, I'm beside myself.

We've only told her mom and she's ask me not to tell anyone else out of percussion and not wanting to jinx it. I couldn't help myself, I had to share it.

I'm over the top happy. I'm nervous as hell too. I am hoping everything turns out well and I am wishing her a smooth pregnancy. We talked about being prepare mentally for something to happen, but we're not dwelling on that.

child birth is kinda supposed to have a bit of an edge of drama/uncertainty to it.

its good to be in touch with whats going on with you. being nervous is a sign that you're involved and focused.

But, remember to keep a very cool head, be calm, expect nothing and everything at once.

I had two radically different births between my two and even with the "easy" birth it was one thing after the other.

I don't want to give you my birth stories because thats just rude, and one thing you have to look out for is being bombarded with each and every bad birth story out there.

"Oh! Oh my god! You're pregnant! Let me tell you about the time I had to crawl through a field of glass while in labor for 40 days..."

the point is, there is no such thing as 100% effortless/smooth/easy when it comes to birth. It's a stupid emotional rollercoaster ride with amazing prizes at the end.


Go with the flow.



Call your insurance or read through things to see whats on the table. Look and see what your jobs offer for expecting parents. The laws have changed recently and I think men now get...3 weeks paternity. Save up those days. Don't be that dad that never goes to doctor appointments - I went to 90% of them and don't regret a second.

my second kid was born in a hospital - the first kid was not

its a HUGE difference the level of care you get in a hospital, that shit is designed to be sure you're successful as a parent.

don't do any of this on your own. i mean, parenting IS figuring shit out as you go along, but there is no point to figuring out stuff thats either a 5 minute conversation or a 5 week lesson.

So a lot to figure out, we're both currently enjoying the news and are just all smiles with each other.

Not sure honestly. I feel eager to nurture my child. I'm excited about the responsibilities and possibilities that come with it. So mentally, yes I feel ready.

My wife and I are in good financial shape, we have savings, we have decent jobs, we have education, we have family, and we both want o be parents.

I feel ready, but who knows how ready one will be. My biggest worry is what happens if we have a severely ill child, the hardships and stress that may come from that.

In terms of prep, not much as of yet aside from the savings, once we get over the 3 month hump, we will start more planning.

Felt a little tap for the 1st time today. It was faint, but definitely nothing else it could've been.

The 20 week anatomy scan was all good. Im feeling so great and excited.

Birth plan has been discussed with her Doc. We set up an appointment over the phone just to discuss it. Unfortunately I can't go into the appointments with her during to covid.

Room is almost done. I painted and we picked out the theme have to do the final touches.

we got some of the furniture but still missing the rocking chair.

Got the registry set up but haven't sent it out yet and we are still reviewing our car seat and stroller options.

my wife was like "we should check with a consultant everyone has been talking about" I was like "why tho? you put the baby in the seat and buckle them in...why even pay for this?"

it was mind opening. since I did that, I see soooooooo many people fucking it up. it's wild. car seats are like a condoms; user error is the difference between success and failure.

No need to pay for the consulting...well, maybe, the consultant is dope. I'm sure by now you've seen that there are a million options. Not all options are created equally and not all options are meant for everyone.

The value of the consultant is that she creates a solid plan of things you should buy based on your needs. I thought she was going to tell us to buy the best, most expensive stuff and call it day. Not so, we ended up buying the cheaper well made stuff that had the highest safety ratings that fit our lifestyle at the time. The only reason we have a Uppababy is because we got a deal on a thirdhand model from a list serve.

anyway - the consultant has a youtube channel, take a look because she covers the ins and outs of properly bucking them shits in (I'm talkig about the seat not the kids)

Seriously, don't register for clothes. People are gonna buy that stuff anyway. They'll be in the store, think it's cute, and won't be able to resist. However, folks will buy ALL the things - strollers, car seats, rocking chairs, etc.
