I was jamming out to it and I paid attention to the lyrics and noticed what dude was saying for the first time.
Aight, so is this from the perspective of a young man or a grown man talking about a young(er) woman?
The maid is 17...I don't even..what?
But then, is the person speaking in the song speaking to a girlfriend or wife?
the lines "No reason to, you're insecure / Her mind and body are so pure / Id love to share my life with her / Seemingly I love you too" makes me wonder who hes talkin to.
HELP!
Lyrics:
I feel that we should take the time Express whats in our hearts and mind I know we have many things to say We shouldn't waste another day Why don't we give love a chance Bring back into our romance The things we hold so close, my dear Understanding, closeness, fears Life is now a different scene The maid is only 17 Some people think that shes too young They say her life has just begun No reason to, you're insecure Her mind and body are so pure Id love to share my life with her Seemingly I love you too Chorus Life is so many changes I've seen Don't you know (loving you) Finding out how much you mean to me, don't you know, oh (holding you aaaaaaaaaaaaaah) Embrace until our hearts meet as one
(Instrumental Break 4 bars) Now that we have made a way We're blessed now with another day So many tests will come for sure Well have to pass them all and more Soon our lives will unify Showering love down from the sky Accept the love that falls on you Seemingly I love you too Chorus (Ad-libs until end)

There was an argument about which device to use for drum programming because the drummer broke his arm or collar bone.
Obviously there was more to why they broke up but it was rumored to be one of the reasons why.

I have no idea what the nigga is trying to communicate.
Random word structure and random entrance of the maid. No reason to... do what? To worry about you smashing the 17 yr old? Sounds like he might be saying "she fine af, but you ain't got nothing to be insecure about, because I'm all about my commitment to you"... but the "I'd love to spend my life with her" line is quite extreme if that's the case. He also spent almost half the verse talking about this maid. Weird ass detour considering the rest of the song.

...that I think many people pay it no mind cause most people don't pay that close to the lyrics as much as they just hear it with a great music backdrop & melody.
Let's see, the song came out in 1982, probably written at least two to three years beforehand considering how long it usually takes an album to be made, Don was born in 1953, so that would put him in his late 20's when the song came out, but did he write these lyrics pacifically for this album or were they written long before that, or was it written for someone else younger and nobody used it so he kept it for himself.
I'm not trying to give him a pass for having some questionable lyrics but when it comes to music it's more than one side of the story to a song and how it came about and was meant to be perceived as.

Air was just based on the story we picked for a song and my SO swore I had a seed I didn’t tell her about.
songs aren’t always true life stories...lol.
