so i go thru their New Music Friday list first, favorite any songs i like on there and if there's a song or artist that interests me i check to see if the song on the New Music Friday playlist is a single or an album. if it's from an album, i favorite the album.

once i go thru their New Music Friday list I go thru their lists that they curate for me and favorite anything from those.

once that's done, i go back to my favorite albums and check out the albums i've favorite'd from that week.

if they don't rate as an album, i just un-favorite them.

it's 10am where i'm at and i've already gone thru all the playlists and i'm listening to my 3rd full album of the day all while busting out spreadsheets. lol.

if im doing real work i cant listen to an album. i will stop paying attention and forget to like a song or three. managing a playlist and spreadsheet for this new music takes up more effort than it should. limits me to only check out albums that i think i might like or that are big names. gotta reconsider how im going about this.

(he says as he watches two soccer games while knocking out Excel macros)

j/p I know it's just about having a process and being locked-in work-wise. My new thing for making sure I don't just skim albums is that if I like something I will add the FLAC to my Plex library. Spotify is just for testing/casual purposes for me

i think thats why i limit how much i listen to. if im going to listen to a new project then i want to listen all the way through and keep track of my ratings for each song.

i still havent listened to anything that released last week because i havent had time to sit down to do so.

i do want to add some casual listening in the hopes of discovering new music worth listening to. right now im just hoping the ones already on my radar end up being good.

typically i will listen to new albums on fridays in a controlled manner. then the rest of the week i just shuffle the playlist with the new music so i dont have to be focused on it. every few weeks i will listen in a controlled manner again and reevaluate my ratings.

>>joan - cloudy - 3/6 - this is like some shit that BSB/NSYNC would have made in 2001, but really solid.

>>Aminé - Limbo - 14/14 - not the biggest fan of his just cuz i don't follow, but this whole project is nice with some real stand out joints on it.

>>GASHI - 1984 - 16/16 - i like GASHI a lot. i feel like he's just throwing stuff at the wall for years to see what sticks. this feels like his most complete project as being a coherent piece of art.

>>Glass Animals - Dreamland - 17/17 - great fucking electro pop album, period.

>>Paloma Ford - X Tapes - 7/7 - really really nice R&B EP

>>Tkay Maidza - Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 2 - 3/8 - super dope, super dope. just some cool like, funky R&B/hip hop/dance shit put in a blender.

>>Victoria Monét - Jaguar - 9/9- HARD AF. SO GOOD.

a freebie: peep this dude Elliot Trent's EP. really nice R&B.

i thought that Caroline song was wack as hell back when it was out so i didnt check out his first album

singles for this one were pretty good so i gave it a shot and i liked it.

but somebody should've tapped him on the shoulder when he decided to put Becky (basically an apology for loving white women bc thats what he grew up around) on this album after a song about how much he loves his Eritrean mother.

live your truth, but i know his black female fanbase is hurt rn off this.

Been waiting on her project for months and...yeah.

I'm only mad its so short but still one of the best R&B efforts of 2020.

Haven't heard a more sexual project since forever.

It's a limited edition and looks like it's going really fast, might only be 28 left.

If you look at the code for the webpage (with Firefox it's right mouse click and then View Page Source) you can find it sometimes. The easiest instances are if you search the code for the word "inventory." In this case the third search results shows a string of text that reads:

"inventory_quantity":1

which should mean there's only one left. The number has been dropping steadily since I first accessed the page about an hour ago.

And as I'm typing this has dropped to 0 and with the product listing now showing as sold out.

A caveat however is that sometimes the number will increase again as it approaches 0 so sometimes it's not completely accurate. It's at least a good guess and can show how fast it's selling.

If the name doesn't hit you, he's the young kid who was singing about not being killed by the cops during all of the protests.

I don't usually rock w/ "positive" songs because they often come off as overly corny/cheesy but this shit is dope in every way.

In response to Reply # 41

The mixing is a bit flat IMO but there are some good singles on there (the Missy Elliott joint low-key pops) and while the ballads don't work as well the album is just 35' with no clear skippables

Also Kelly Lee Owens - Inner Song is so good. Ethereal techno mixed in with punchy beats. I didn't think Lianne La Havas' Weird Fishes/Arpeggi cover would ever be matched but just two month later and we have another stunning version on here

the toni braxton and saigon projects were a good listen but nothing too great.

the black thought single is pretty nice. i really liked pushas verse and killer mike did his thing. thought always comes through.

avoid the rich brian. kind of made me mad to listen to it lol the lox was meh. pretty much just worth listening to think of the lox.

still got the Jyoti/Georgia Anne Muldrow project but i will get to it next week.

14 songs and only 3 skips for me.

just wanted to come say that cuz this LOX album is really solid especially for a "legacy" act.

i have a lot more thoughts on what dropped today and i'll be back but go peep this lox album.
