"Just signed up to be a poll worker. Anyone else down "
Tue Aug-04-20 09:08 PM by blkprinceMD05

I haven’t missed an election since I moved to Georgia in 2006, municipal, state, Federal, referendum you name it and pretty much every time I go vote the poll workers were elderly ladies and a few elderly guys. With covid they understandably are staying in so I said let me sign up and try to do my part.

Those of us at “low risk” can fill the void

The mrs was talking about how long it took her to vote the last time and how she wanted to do something to make it more comfortable for people (Chairs, water, entertainment?, etc.). She was just talkin though.

I was gonna do a confession Wednesday how I don’t feel like I’m doin enough for my community. This seems like a solid step. That COVID shit is an issue but it’s worth lookin into low exposure positions (?). Ill look into it is definitely some shit somebody say when they not gonna look into it.

For some reason I never really thought about how many other volunteers must be working behind the scenes on election day and I only thought of it as "traditional" poll workers. I think I'll accept the assignment; the description sounds interesting and it will be educational to see how everything works on the inside.

From the County Clerk of Madison, WI

https://twitter.com/MadisonWIClerk/status/1310634954565578753?s=20

We have 6,000 poll workers signed up for November 3, and are at capacity. We can't accept any more applications at this time. We will soon be sending out assignments to those who've already signed up. Typically, we have 3,000 poll workers for a Nov election. #MadisonVotes2020

Or already worked during early voting?

My shift is 6 am to 7 pm on election day (although they've been telling people to expect to be there until 10 pm). I almost dropped out when they told us that they will only be suggesting (and not enforcing) mask usage for voters but I stuck with it.

my roommate started working there after the census ended and got me in cuz I can do early mornings

its a make your own hours kinda thing but they need people round the clock. I go in every morning from about 9am to 130pm and i'm pretty much opening and sorting ballots by town and ward...

i had actually made a post on twitter cuz i saw so many people making mistakes on their mail in ballots...using X's and check marks instead of filling in the circles, voting for multiple candidates for the same office, writing notes on their ballot (defacing it), including a copy of their photo id in the ballot envelope etc...

anyway, yeah....check w/your county election board and see if they need extra hands
