"Take a deep breath, enjoy your life, hug your family, shit 'bout to get ..."

My math might not be exact, but August might just be the last chill-ish moment before the pace picks up.

I'm not saying this to be alarmist, its just a thought thats been crossing my mind. We're eagerly looking towards the outcomes for the election and covid. The lead up to both situations will bring about loonies, once in lifetime headlines, and anxiety.

Covid & election are front of mind, but there are other things coming we may or may not be thinking about.

Four months from now on November 4th we're either going to be aight or angry.

August - still waiting on Bidens VP pick
September - Start of fall (22nd)
October - Election lead up
November - Election (?)
December - Start of Cold and Flu season

Covid infection rates are looking decent right now: https://imgur.com/a/EKjsWZA

But, I'm hoping we don't get a spike and rise. Folks have abandoned masks, which, aight, I get that it seems OK to do but Covid also takes a long time to appear, so by the time rates begin to pick up (if they do, assuming we see an increase during flu season) the damage will have already been done.

Other areas:
-Brewing housing mortgage default crisis + job loss claims
-Corporate debt bubble
-Commercial real estate market taking a big dive due to closing businesses. Permanent closures of restaurants.
-The retail Armageddon is on a tear thanks to C-19 economy, shit was already thin, C-19 just poured gas on the fire.
-Etc

Enjoy yo mothafuckin' life and family.

good or bad.

if it's bad, then I fart in your general direction.

if it's good - well, I mean...since summer has started I keep going to asking "ok, so whats our plan IF there is a next big wave? why are pretending as if things are just...happening?"

This years' Atlantic hurricane season is supposed to be very active.

Also, global supply issues. Already seeing quite a few product shortages already.

Worst of all is a populace that is largely in denial about the changing world that we live in. Comfort is king in the US, and as soon as the general populace starts getting uncomfortable we're gonna have real problems here.

I've been kinda trying to put this dreadfulness on the backburner of my brains for the last couple months, and just enjoy summer to the best of my ability, considering all that's happened and is still happening this year. The weather's been beautiful in my area since like late May (thank gawd) so that's been a damn blessing. So my wife and I have spent a lot of time outside, and have had time to take part in some activities we typically don't have a ton of time for because of regular adult life schedules (weddings, kids' birthdays, all that regular bullshit).

But all of the below has crept into my thinking from time to time and yea - things could get a trillion times worse before they ever get better, if they ever do. I've been SUPER fortunate in regard to my job to this point; my company hasn't yet been too badly impacted by COVID or COVID-related domino effect. But it's likely coming, as several of our clients *have* been impacted and will likely be impacted further now that Cheeto has basically abandoned even attempting to do anything about it.

Then there's everything else.

It sucks. Heartbreaking that we're at this point.

don't just fuck off time inside all day

now more than ever, keep doing what you have been doing - I've been on the same kick. Ive been out every weekend with the family on bikes, living our best lives.

I'm bracing for the moment when we go from conversations eventually leading to Trump, Covid, economy to ALL conversations ONLY being about Trump, Covid, economy.

and wrote "7/31" on it, then glanced at a ticket on the line to see it was 8/1 and kinda muttered, "fuck, it's already an 8 instead of a 7?" and one of the line cooks cracked how he'd been doing it all day and was probably going to do it for another couple, and without missing a beat I hit him back with: "I'm more annoyed by how much closer to the death of the service industry August makes me feel, but I guess wasting some tape sucks too" and Charlie Brown'd my way back to front of house.

I can't calm myself because there is nothing that i can do but wait.

Those covid number, I have to be weary about the number ever since it started getting sent to the WH instead of the CDC. All of a sudden, number are leveling off. Thats too coincidental for my comfort.

As for the election, it has turned into a pivotal moment for my wife and I. We are legitimately holding off on major life decisions cuz of trump.

We are putting off going to a doctor about fertility, holding off on trying to fix up our house, and holding off on possibly moving.

All for an idiot at the WH

i remember i was waiting for a few days to see if the numbers would have a big change when they started being sent to the WH. locally things seemed the same, ended up forgetting about the change. reported numbers the last few days in my city have been a lot better than they have been for over a month. not sure what to think now.

Learn the four rules. Get a good gun safe.

I'm only nagging you about this because ammunition is getting quite scarce, and popular guns like Glocks are mostly sold out.

I think laws vary by state.

My wife has an old coworker who’s husband owns a gun store so we just had our first meeting last night and the first thing he said is prices are rising and it’s taking longer to process applications.

That Glock that was $500-$600 is now $500-$850.

Revolvers are pretty dope, but don't have the capacity and safety features of semi-auto handguns. If you don't plan on carrying, get a mid- or full-size handgun. The extra size and weight really helps with the recoil. 9mm and .45acp are both good rounds for HD, and in the past 9mm was pretty cheap. Much harder to find now. Jacketed Hollow Points are what you want for HD, because the bullets are designed to flatten-out and shed their energy into an object (like a body or a wall) rather than punching a hole through it.

AR-15s are ugly looking IMHO, but really are the best all-around rifles that can be found at a good price. Soft shooters, too w/ not much recoil (tho very loud). If you don't want an AR, and even cheaper .22LR rifle like a 10/22 would be pretty good, and are gentle enough for kids to shoot at the range.

I'd put a 12-gauge shotgun third, because they are very loud, have a lot of recoil, are limited in round capacity and shells are expensive relative to other types of ammo. Very effective, but not something you want to be shooting indoors. Same goes for rifles with the loudness. All guns are too loud too shoot indoors without ear protection, but with that said a 9 or 45 handgun will probably do a little less damage to your ears than a rifle or shotgun.

Always recommend the range (or your backyard, if you have mad land) because target shooting really helps change one's perception about firearms. I started shooting when I was around 12yo in the Boy Scouts during camping trips when we'd cordon off and area and set up a range and targets, so I have a different view of guns than many of my fellow city dwellers.

In response to Reply # 29

I never understood the concept.

are you automatically enlisted/considered a ally because of skin color?

is a person considered an enemy because of skin color?

can you opt out of the war or are you in it automatically because of skin color?

women and children? How do they fit in?

what format of war makes sense? Are fools just mobbing houses and getting those licks in?

Is the idea eradication of the other? Or - is the idea to seize property and wealth through violence?

what is losing? is death and total deaths the only way to lose?

what is winning? is winning the same as not being the loser or are there particular goals at hand?

what is not allowed? are there inhumane weapons?

Does a kid with a white parent have to honor kill them to prove that they are down?

We allowed trades?

Is it White vs. Black (everyone else neutral), or are we gonna form some axis vs. allies type coalitions?

If you grab ammo online, sign up for "back in stock" notifications and jump on any ok deals you see ASAP. Grab more than you think you'll need (so you can have some extra to shoot at the range).

In response to Reply # 0

Whatever the "official" numbers are now, they're higher than reported.

That's always been the case, since widespread testing has been limited, but not it seems they're being actively, artificially limited.

So yeah. The outlook isn't great.

32. "RE: Maaaaaaaaan!"
In response to Reply # 0

I want to swing in on a rope and say 'hey yawl, we got this'.

BUT

This is maybe the first time in my life where I forreal am not certain if we've got this or not.

And man, more than ever it seems, folks all up around me keep talking about getting guns/gats/blickies/burners/biscuits.

As for covid, I've been VERY fortunate. My wife got furloughed early on but I've been working from home for almost 5 months and busy af.

But maaaaaaan! If I tell you one thing, I tell you this: I'm tired of going out of my way to stay home and be careful only to look around and see folks kicking it big: line dances at weddings, clapping for folks who made Cs at graduations, birthday grilling and/or chilling, random celebratory dinners, folks flying here and there just cuz, happy hours, baby showers, all of that. And now these folks are trying to rig it so that school starts too!? ADULTS can't get this right and we're gonna trust people's raggedy azz kids with this? C'mon folks! It all makes me think COVID isn't actually going anywhere whether folks cook the numbers or not. I'm tired of the uncertainty and the lack of community of it all.

Add in that DT is still prez and a dude got choked to the death in the street on camera by a cop with multiple witnesses and some folk seem to forget about this (and the growing catalog of other victims of absurd killings). It is all is a bit much to grin and bear even with abundant blessings around me.

But maybe I'm overwhelmed by all of this. This is my first full year without my pops around (cancer and a stroke took him out early last year). He'd always have some ridiculous-sounding comment that is drenched in real talk/truth if you knew him as a person. He was always good at that. He was like my country Aesop Fables.

But I'll take your advice and enjoy myself. I'm walking, swimming, reading, jamming, chilling whenever I'm not working. I finally got a little weight bench for the house so I can resume some weight lifting. We'll see!
