though I will admit to chipping away at that "savings" over the recent months. Buying stuff to stock up, to enhance, to update etc. since I am in the house all the time now.

summer long. I am GOOD! Got caught off guard early this year with the shortage. I also have plenty of food: fresh, frozen, and canned. And plenty of drinks: wine, water, soda, coffee and tea.

If I get "stuck" in the house because of a snow storm I am ready. Lol @ me being stuck since I never leave the house anyway.

Besides home repairs I can’t think of anything else.

I’ve been putting off a sound bar for a year now. That’s really the only thing I can think of that I would buy for entertainment.

Timing dependent, of course. We're already on track to have what we need by the end of August.

So if we're already in the middle of that process when the time comes, it will simply replenish our savings.

I mean, it doesn’t give folks a reason to go back to work but what will they do now?

this is a moving train...

I’d rather they not do the $1200 and put it towards the unemployment. I have a job! not sure how tho...

there should be an incentive for people to not have to work right now. more than there is now.

that doesnt me you should need to give up the stimulus payment though. should be these big corporations that are giving up their welfare right now.

That's set to expire soon and republicans are starting to poor mouth extending the full benefit... they may reduce to an extra $200 instead but they're floating the idea to see how the market and businesses react.

because of the unemployment additive. That led me down a mini rabbit hole of what unemployment pays, state to state. My state, Missouri...the max is $320/week. I have no idea how the figure the maximums, per state...but, the highest in the country is Massachusetts. Their max is 783/month. The lowest is Mississippi at 230/week max. Like...that's the MAX.

Just, out the clear blue, starting shit with people for zero reason.

And now you're trying to start with someone in.....

..... a post about what people will do with potential stimulus funds due to a global pandemic.

You're actively trying to derail a perfectly civil, peaceful, and relevant post by talking shit to specific posters.

I mean, I got it for a little under $600 which was a nice little savings, and I'm sufficiently excited by 4K and HDR and all that...but just knowing that OLED was another $600 away and I flinched has me feeling bad for myself now.

Honestly, I'll probably take a large majority of it and donate it to local BLM initiatives. I almost gave $1,000 to a bail relief fund after our local department corralled, pepper-shot and jailed over 100 protestors peacefully marching through midtown Omaha Saturday night as they were crossing a bridge. The footage of the event is despicable and I've already been selfish with my time and money throughout this pandemic I'm fortunate enough to be profiting from with or without these stimulus checks.

I'd rather take Mr. Drumpf's money and put it towards causes that undermine his.

I have a 2016 Civic sedan running on the original Hankook Kinergy tires. I was buying some regular all-season Goodyears for my last Civic (2006).

I don't want to break the bank but I commute on the freeway daily and need something that'll be decent. I live in Texas so hot as hell, some rain, but very little snow/ice.

I like Hankook, in general. The Yokohama Avid Ascend is a good tire. Quiet, great tread life, brakes well on dry and wet pavement. Another one is the Continental TrueContact.

I've pressed em into some turns and they hold tight...you get some warning before they reach their limit, too. Only had to rock them in the snow, maybe twice. They got me home. I don't really expect much in the snow from any tire that isn't a dedicated snow tire.

so to states/cities. NYS and NYC are both hurting right now because of budgetary shortfalls. If/when services are cut, things will get mighty ugly on a large scale.

In Texas, the lowest-income workers don’t qualify for additional unemployment aid
https://www.texastribune.org/2020/08/26/unemployment-300-texas/

Nearly 350,000 Texans don't qualify for the extra payment because they either earned too little from the work they lost or didn't indicate on paperwork that they lost their jobs due to the pandemic.

if texas deems you should get less than $100 per week in unemployment then you don't qualify for trumps additional $400 per week...which is only $300 in texas since they didnt sign up for the extra $100.

why?

im glad they got rid of the liability protection

glad im not hurting for the check but wish they did more for those that are.

really hope they put in something to prevent abuse of the PPP loans. these really should be for small businesses that are not owned by multimillionaires.

would have been nice if they allowed people that had to quit due to covid being able to get unemployment.

They "agreed" on an oversight committee so the fuhrer just fired the people responsible for the oversight and let Mnuchin ignore all the obvious corruption.

It should be $1800. Repeal the $1.8 trillion tax cut for the wealthy. Republicans outraged about the deficit nerrd to shutup. The deficit didnt matter when they gave away tax breaks to the rich.

State and local governments need to be ashamed of themselves for letting that tax money leave. Now they need the taxes from the rich to pay for the budget shortfall.

I hope an unprecedented number of recalls happen as a result of this.

I'd check that. Not that this is necessarily all that comparable but back in 2012 I got a back due tax bill from the state of MA for the year 2009 for like 3 or 4 grand.

I neither lived nor worked in MA in 2009. So I'd see an accountant before just paying that, unless you already have/already know for sure it's legit.

While we're on the subject, is there like a statute of limitations on how far back they can audit your taxes ? There should be. I've always thought it was bullshit that we owe back due interest on tax audits multiple years old, while our "tax returns" don't include back due interest from the gov't.

Tax code is fucked up in a trillion ways of course, but that's just your general every day chump annoyance.

I guess his last act is to appear to be "for the people". He's going to begrudgingly sign whatever the give him and continue to pretend to complain like he can't do anything about it

“I am asking Congress to amend this bill and increase the ridiculously low $600 to $2,000, or $4,000 for a couple,” Trump said in the video.

In another jarring twist, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, one of Trump’s political arch enemies, agreed with his call for $2,000 payments. “Democrats are ready to bring this to the Floor this week by unanimous consent. Let’s do it!” she tweeted.

im surprised the media (or anyone else) still falls for this.

repubs didnt even want $600. mcconnell has repeatedly shot down relief bills and ron johnson just shot down a bill within the last week because they dont wanna give *any* money to people. trump knows they damn sure dont want to give $2k after they wouldnt even budge on $1200.

mcconnell tells pelosi/schumer to negotiate with trump surrogates then nixes whatever they come up with. trump tells mcconnell to negotiate with pelosi/schumer then nixes whatever they come up with. but he frames it as not being enough for the american people.

then he looks like hes fighting for the little guy and the media will just blame 'congress' or 'our leaders' or 'partisan gridlock' if/when everything collapses (like they have done several times on covid relief negotiations alone for the past year even after dems passed the heroes act back in may).

and people will still eat it up after 4 years of damn near *every* negotiation going exactly like this.

I thought, ok, so what was the reaction? I went to YouTube, and it was literally at the top of my feed.

I doubt this will be well received, and I doubt "the media"- obvious GOP arms aside- will blame Congress if it blows up. This is pretty transparent.

mcconnell finally 'caving' to give *any* relief money to people was actually to help the senators in ga because they are getting hammered for their lack of support for stimulus checks. the only reason mcconnell did it was political expediency.

trump just fucked them because hes impulsive and he wanted to control the media cycle again (overshadowed pardons) and/or he just wanted to find a way to kill the bill because he hates giving money to poor people (like just about every conservative).

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/12/coronavirus-relief-biggest-climate-bill-history-hydrofluorocarbons-wind-solar.html

ive said on here for a while that sometimes the best way for dems to pass progressive policy is to not talk about it. one...because theres less chance to make it a high profile polarizing issue. and two...it gives republicans less time to mount a cohesive defense or make their base care about it.

while national dems were dividing up *themselves* and getting railed on by repubs for the green new deal...dem controlled cities/states/counties were quietly passing climate change policy at the local level that would have more of a concrete effect than some glorified non binding federal resolution that didnt actually do anything. and it received little to no resistance because local dems didnt willfully turn it into a battlefield.

its something republicans learned *long* ago. like they dont talk about packing courts. they just get governorships and pack courts with very few headlines. they do the same with just about every objective within their broader political agenda except for the things they intentionally amplify to motivate their base to come out and vote.

if dems just did the same things repubs do on the strategic nuts and bolts level...theyd be a dominant political party.
