I initially assumed it was a Gucci album with a lot of features, but it seems more like a showcase for his newer artists. I think I see what he was tryna do in that sense, but it was too long and felt like a chore to get through
(i hate pitchfork reviews because they always try to be more than they should be, fwiw. talk about the music and stop trying to be these existential think pieces, lol.)
also, found out he works behind the scenes for Solange and Blood Orange, among others. no wonder he's fire AF.

this album hit some marks for me but not others. it's definitely something i gotta be in the mood for. some of the disco tracks work better than others. but overall it's nice. won't be in heavy rotation for me as a full project, but i will pick and choose songs to throw into playlists for sure.

there was a single he dropped (the first one) that was pretty bad, but the second one was good and i saw the album dropped, but your comment reminded me i need to listen.
some surprises in here, quite a bit to go through. definitely checking the apollo brown and che noir, dinner party, rapsody. the streets have a new project?? mike shinoda...snoh aalegra. assuming these all actually came out, i have quite a bit to get through.

definitely something you should listen to. i didnt like the hook on a couple of tracks but other than that it is great. apollo brown never disappoints and che is nice on the mic.

i know JW got like 300 completed songs in the tank because a ton of them have leaked (pretty much all of the ones on this album were leaked already). so IDK why they went so hard w/ the sad shit.
definitely excited for the new blu & exile. i have avoided most of the singles. hopefully the vinyl comes in tomorrow, might stream it if it doesnt. new joey ep, if thats the kyle thats featured on the kota album im checking it out. that might be it.

might be the best project to come out this past friday. im kind of sleeping on oddisee. i have seen him shouted out a lot but i cant really say how many of his albums i have checked out. i know i listened to the iceberg and thought it was great. going to have to do a deep dive of his discog soon.
Blu & Exile - Miles 4.8/5 love it, definitely will keep it in rotation
Joey Bada$$ - The Light Pack 5/5 3 dope tracks but to be honest im not sure how much replay value they will have for me. i expect to lower the score on repeat listens
Oddisee - Odd Cure Ep 5/5 this is just great. definitely will stay in rotation
KYLE - See You When I am Famous! 4.4/5 not very familiar with him. this was a weird listen. kind of fun but very pop. hit or miss. i feel i wont like it as much on repeat listens. im thinking im not in the target audience for this lol kind of gives me gym class heroes vibes for 2020

Lupe Fiasco & Kaelin Ellis - House 5/5 It's only 4 songs but they all hit. I want to play it a few times. Really makes me want to hear more from the combo.
Curren$y & Harry Fraud - The OutRunners 4.75/5 This is great. I got a bit tired towards the end but I am going to keep this in rotation. The production is nice. Songs are short, Curren$y is mostly off the hooks. Good features.
Logic - No Pressure 4/5 It's okay. Some great production. I don't really like listening to Logic rap and this doesn't change that. Got really tired of the wannabe Tribe voice in-between basically every song. Dude sounds like he needs a break. Kind of like Eminem when he started rapping about not liking being famous. I guess it's good he's claiming he's retiring instead of continuing to rap about it for 10 years and counting.
Kamaal Williams - Wu Hen Cool listen, I don't really do instrumental type albums so not going to score it. Sounded good though.
The Boldy James isn't on streaming. Couldn't find the E-40 either.
Understandably, black thought delayed his album. It was the only album I was looking forward to today, would have been a great way to end July which has been super strong. Not anything I'm too eager to jump into, will check out the benny and e-40. Maybe brandy and alinis.

Pretty weak, I hope there's something I'm sleeping on. Haven't checked out Brandy or Alanis but most of what I heard today isn't worth going back to.
38 Spesh - 6 Shots 4.6/5 This was good, beats are pretty nice. Bars are okay. I think this won't have a lot of replay value but definitely they best project I've listened to this week.
Flee Lord & Pete Rock - The People's Champ 3.4/5 I had some hope with Pete Rock but the rapping was just meh to me. Not one track I would go back to.
E-40 - The Curb Commentator Channel 2 EP 4.1/5 Not bad but nothing special. Goop is pretty dope, only track that might stay in rotation.
Black Soprano Family 4/5 This was okay. Some dope bars, some dope beats. Overall nothing special. In Love with the Streets might stay in rotation.
