"Did CNN shade Black Eyed Peas' Masters of The Sun album? *swipe*"
Tue Jun-23-20 11:04 AM by Airbreed

BEP dropped a new album this past week.

And CNN started their article with -- "The Black Eyed Peas are back after a decade with a new album..."

Huh???

MOTS dropped in 2018 after a 7 year hiatus for BEP. The omission is probably a mistake. But its still weird.

The article is mainly about fergie (which is expected).

MOTS was their best album musically, in years IMO. But I don't think it got much love from their BEP + fergie audience.

I dunno. Can't help but feeling like it's a slant towards their Hip Hop roots.

*shrugs*

https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/23/entertainment/black-eyed-fergie-trnd/index.html

(CNN)The Black Eyed Peas are back after a decade with a new album, but one member is missing.

Singer Fergie is not on this latest project, and the group is explaining why.

Fergie is "focusing on being a mom," Will.i.am told Billboard.

"That's a hard job, and that's what she really wants to do and we're here for her, and she knows how to contact us for a retreat or a breakaway," he told the publication. "It's really the way Fergie designed it, so we're respecting her design. We love Fergie, and we don't want anything but awesomeness for her."

Fergie shares a 6-year-old son, Axl Jack, with ex-husband, actor Josh Duhamel.

She joined the group, which in addition to Will.i.am included Apl.de.Ap and Taboo, in 2002 and sang on some of its biggest hits, including "Where Is The Love," "Let's Get It Started," "I Gotta Feeling" and "Boom Boom Pow."

The members pursued solo projects, and Fergie went on to host the Fox reality singing competition, "The Four."
Now the Black Eyed Peas have a new female singer, J. Rey Soul, and a new album titled, "Translation."

At the time of the interview, Will.i.am told Billboard Fergie hadn't heard the new album yet, but he hoped she likes it.

"We try to keep in touch," he said of her relationship with the group. "We reach out every once in a while and say our hellos and happy birthdays and Merry Christmas and Happy Easter. She knows where we're at! We're at the studio."

as creatures of habit, mainstream audiences bought into it.

BEP as the original trio deserves more than that.

after she co-opted their shit, and the media made her bigger than the group, she bounced.

shameful. but typical.

The track with Phife - well I think that's Phife's best posthumously released track:
All Around The World with Phife:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9CJtkTAMos

And the first single was a little corny UNTIL it's breaks into Lee Morgan's Search for A New Land at around 4:02:
The Black Eyed Peas ft. Nas - BACK 2 HIPHOP

This would be a solid 2.5/3 mic album in 1994.

Pretty good, but not a classic.

But I listened to it for a couple of months in rotation while hiking.

Maybe it's because there aren't any super hip hop quotable on it?? At least not for me.

But don't sleep on the Phife song.

I mean.. they were calculated and knew what they were doing but to go from stadium tours to “they released an album?” is crazy.

How does that happen?

How does one woman with subpar singing ability just snatch your whole shit.

the rest is the style got outdated. people were done with the sound and they took a long hiatus. their core fergie fans moved on, grew up.

maybe.

i wonder how pressed they are to have hits now.

The peas were a better hip hop group without her, but wiht her they were a GIANT pop group.

From WIKI:
Black Eyed Peas have sold an estimated 80 million records, making them one of the best-selling groups of all time. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the group were the second-best-selling artist/group of all time for downloaded tracks, behind Rihanna, with over 42 million sales.

Looking at those numbers they've sold about 400,000 without Fergi - and Fergie's solo record sold at least 6 million - so she's at least 10 more popular.

She's the reason the group did so well commercially.

i wonder what would had happened if they kept the same sound and released a new album soon after she left. or even an updated pop sound.

maybe theres some message board where all the peas fans decided to abandon them because fergie left lol
