"J Cole Sucks Y’all."

What is this, Tear Down A Black Woman Week?

He released a new song tonight called “Snow on Tha Bluff” where he attacked the woman rapper Noname because she dared to...I don’t know...try to solve issues? Educate people?

And rather than offer up his own original solutions he decides to go on a long verse of critiquing her.

Wack.

Ferguson activists were doing great, then here came the BLM actors, stealing all the money and creating divison along lines of gender and sexual orientation.

Don't just listen to me tho, listen to a sister who was there on the ground when they came and is STILL there after BLM actors got mad at her for not going along with their program:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUffcP4IEf8:

I've been a huge fan of NoName's music, but I've been watching her be on that silliness on Twitter. Some of us really have to get over this idea that Black women are above criticism. What he said was a far cry from "tearing her down." Hell I was waiting for him to say something that warranted that description after reading this post. She something about "niggas whole discographies be about black plight but they can't even put up a tweet" while J.Cole actually in the street with the people. It ain't many people these days she couldn't been talking about, so I can fault him too much if he took that personally. Maybe she should've named names or just refrained from taking shots at people as he suggested on the song. Thanks for the heads up on the song, btw.
NoName is another one who's on this nonsensical idea that black men are "erasing" other people by dying too much. Shit is just weird at this point. It would be like Black men saying Black women are erasing us from the breast cancer conversation by being 95+ percent of the cases. Black men are 96% of the police killings of black folks. How are we to blame for being targeted by white supremacist patriarchy?

Yvette Carnell also did a great show on why the BLM model is super flawed:

I don't think his content is straight garbage - I do think his framing undermines everything he says and while he does talk about history he seems to be fond of stripping context out of discourse.

for whatever reason no one can ever seem to say at the same time

- racism exists
- system racism exists
- your life, your existence is threatening and constantly being devalued and under attack

AND

- the way to move forward in life is to work hard or have some sort of growth mindset
- focus on building generational wealth
- fuck them dry ass haters, keep being you, keep pushing forward

It's like admitting one thing is perceived as canceling out the other thing.

i thought it was an unnecessary tweet because those dudes are out there doing it. they're just not making a show out of it.

I based that on what he did with Wale when he did a song critical of him and she doesn't seem terribly bothered by the song on her timeline (though I could have missed it)

Twitter has a way of people getting worked up and offended on behalf of other people who you later find out weren't as bothered by the offense.

to me it felt like "Tear Down A Black Man Week"

You see tons of tweets like this:

https://twitter.com/evelynvwoodsen/status/1272559806830739456

That's not a call for women to share there stories of abuse so people can learn. It's a call to say black men ain't shit. It's a weird time to promote such a message in the middle of a movement when we are trying to convince white people that Black Live Matters.

But I am beginning to see that's how twitter works. It's 95% people attacking other people and the byproduct is that after a while we all feel personally attacked.

The nation is on edge and we are seeing us starting to take it out on each other more and more online. Gender Warz was brewing on black twitter and I was thinking it might be time to log off. Maybe J Cole should have done the same...unless the track is fiyah (haven't heard it yet).

Was directly under a pic of Cole and Kendrick. So it makes sense that he would think she was talking about him. Even if it wasn't, who else could she have been talking about besides them too?

And I'm not seeing where he tore her down. His lyrics read like constructive criticism to me ... poorly timed, but constructive nonetheless

Niggas be thinkin' I'm deep, intelligent, fooled by my college degree
My IQ is average, there's a young lady out there, she way smarter than me
I scrolled through her timeline in these wild times, and I started to read
She mad at these crackers, she mad at these capitalists, mad at these murder police
She mad at my niggas, she mad at our ignorance, she wear her heart on her sleeve
She mad at the celebrities, lowkey I be thinkin' she talkin' 'bout me
Now I ain't no dummy to think I'm above criticism
So when I see something that's valid, I listen
But shit, it's something about the queen tone that's botherin' me
She strike me as somebody blessed enough to grow up in conscious environment
With parents that know 'bout the struggle for liberation and in turn they provide her with
A perspective and awareness of the system and unfairness that afflicts 'em
And the clearest understandin' of what we gotta do to get free
And the frustration that fills her words seems to come from the fact that most people don't see
Just 'cause you woke and I'm not, that shit ain't no reason to talk like you better than me
How you gon' lead, when you attackin' the very same niggas that really do need the shit that you sayin'?
Instead of conveying you holier, come help get us up to speed
Shit, it's a reason it took like two hundred years for our ancestors just to get freed
These shackles be lockin' the mental way more than the physical
I look at freedom like trees, can't grow a forest like overnight
Hit the ghetto and slowly start plantin' your seeds
Fuck is the point of you preaching your message to those that already believe what you believe?
I'm on some "Fuck a retweet," most people is sheep
You got all the answers but how you gon' reach?
If I could make one more suggestion respectfully
I would say it's more effective to treat people like children
Understandin' the time and love and patience that's needed to grow
This change is inevitable but ain't none of us seen this before
Therefore we just gotta learn everything as we go
I struggle with thoughts on the daily
Feel like a slave that somehow done saved enough coins to buy his way up outta slavery
Thinkin' just maybe, in my pursuit to make life so much better for me and my babies
I done betrayed the very same people that look at me like I'm some kind of a hero
Because of the zeros that's next to the commas
But look here, I promise I'm not who you think
Ran into this nigga outside of the store yesterday
He said something that had me like, "Wait"
He was like "Cole, 'preciate what you been doin', my nigga, that's real"
But damn, why I feel faker than Snow on Tha Bluff?
Well, maybe 'cause deep down I know I ain't doing enough

I am surrounded by Strong Black Women. My wife, my mom, grandmas, my nieces, my cousins, my aunties, my mentees, my direct reports and Ex-girlfriends.

There isn't a woman among them who would say that I am nothing less than respectful, supportive and thoughtful in my treatment of them. They are also the first ones to call me out when I am on some bullshit.

So if I am surrounded by remarkable accomplished women, with strong opinions, who keep honest, why the fuck would I fret over what somebody on the nigga-net says who isn't trying to honestly engage anyone but rather acting out there own insecurities online.

Infact, it's unprovable but I am old enough to see this play out but I can guarantee that a lot of the women and men who want to lecture people (and it is a lecture if you want to state your opinion but don't want to hear anything in return) about how to treat black women, got way more black women that can't stand them than I do.

So get out of here trying to lecture me about how to treat black women. You don't know me and I don't know you...(but for some of yall here, I have seen some of shit you pulled on black women right here).

BTW, it's funny that J Cole is talking about this very thing that's happening in this post.

“Angela Davis said “there are Black people that I do not want to unify with” that also means that there are Black people who are dangerous and therefore not due the coddling and care that most often turns into coercion, as you’ve just performed.”

Similar to my thoughts or lack there of on you.

The problem I see in this post is that Black men believe they deserve discourse and understanding, while also not affording that to the black women they are not listening to in their very own online community.

It seems like a him vs her thing (whoever "she" is).
If a guy went after him, i would think it would be a him vs him thing.

I see this more of a clap back on Twitter warriors (no matter the gender)
Is there some history I'm missing?

It's bigger that going to a fucking protest or not. I'm fully aware he and Kendrick both went to a protest in their cities.

It's the way he spoke to her then tries to reprimand her for the work she's already been doing. She's been doing her best to educate people and even started a book club so people could learn but because she called him out on not publicly speaking and that he didn't like her "tone" (fuck him for saying that. That was so condescending) he needs to what, humble her?

Noname don't need to be educating anyone about anything, it's not her fucking job like it's no black women's job. As usual though, black women are ALWAYS on the front lines ready to protect men who treat us like human garbage and try to police everything we say and do."

generalization of black men as "ignorant".

It takes a certain amount of double consciousness to read all these posts complaining about how terrible black men are AND complain about how poorly we are treated by the police. If police believe all the terrible shit people say about black men, no wonder they treat us like savages and are killing us at the rate they are.

First up, what kind of goof troop shit is this? Of all the things to make a joint about right now, this corny dude decides to go at Noname about her tone??

And yes, its about Noname. His little tweet this morning saying "Its not for me to say"? LOL What kind of throw a rock and hide your hand shit is that?

"I scrolled through her timeline in these wild times, and I started to read
She mad at these crackers, she mad at these capitalists, mad at these murder police
She mad at my niggas, she mad at our ignorance, she wear her heart on her sleeve
She mad at the celebrities, lowkey I be thinkin' she talkin' 'bout me"

This is def about Noname. If you followed her you'd know.

"Now I ain't no dummy to think I'm above criticism
So when I see something that's valid, I listen
But shit, it's something about the queen tone that's botherin' me"

This is where a lot of yall failed. Cuz he used the word "queen" doesn't excuse this shit.

"She strike me as somebody blessed enough to grow up in conscious environment
With parents that know 'bout the struggle for liberation and in turn they provide her with
A perspective and awareness of the system and unfairness that afflicts 'em
And the clearest understandin' of what we gotta do to get free
And the frustration that fills her words seems to come from the fact that most people don't see
Just 'cause you woke and I'm not, that shit ain't no reason to talk like you better than me"

First, I'm pretty sure she did not grow up like this. She got increasingly political over the past year or so.

Either way, she put in work. He has a lot more money, a lot more privilege. Why hasn't he?

Second, she is objectively better than J cole so...*shrug*

Finally, as you read this shit...remember of all the things going on that J Cole could have addressed, he got in the booth to do...this.

"How you gon' lead, when you attackin' the very same niggas that really do need the shit that you sayin'?
Instead of conveying you holier, come help get us up to speed"

LOL does he want her to tutor him?

She started a book club, why doesn't he join? All those zeros he brags about in this song tells me he has the time to educate himself. Its not her job.

"Shit, it's a reason it took like two hundred years for our ancestors just to get freed
These shackles be lockin' the mental way more than the physical"

Damn...you guys defending this Kanye-ass shit too?

"I look at freedom like trees, can't grow a forest like overnight
Hit the ghetto and slowly start plantin' your seeds
Fuck is the point of you preaching your message to those that already believe what you believe?"

Is this what Cole fans take as deep? Notice, he's still telling her how she SHOULD be operating. From his recording booth. During all this shit.

"Be nicer" ...wow.

"I'm on some "Fuck a retweet," most people is sheep
You got all the answers but how you gon' reach?"

LOL what? What in the fuck does he think he's doing?

And, again, she is doing a lot more than just tweeting. Its just that the tweet got him in his feelings.

"If I could make one more suggestion respectfully
I would say it's more effective to treat people like children
Understandin' the time and love and patience that's needed to grow
This change is inevitable but ain't none of us seen this before
Therefore we just gotta learn everything as we go"

I'll say it. He's channeling his white mom here. Dont be so militant, really? In these times?

Treat people like children? LOL what?

"I struggle with thoughts on the daily
Feel like a slave that somehow done saved enough coins to buy his way up outta slavery"

But not enough money to cop a book? lol

"Thinkin' just maybe, in my pursuit to make life so much better for me and my babies
Well, maybe 'cause deep down I know I ain't doing enough"

This is the part that seems to excuse the rest of the song for folks. Or its the only part some actually heard.

But why not just make the song about this then? Why all the condescending bullshit?

And..most importantly...why make a song about this at all?

I get it. Twitter rage deserves skepticism. But to default to the opposite is also wrong.

The timing...the subject...the content...this is some weirdo bullshit.

** I can't believe I had to read the lyrics to a J-Cole song today.

>to go on a long verse of critiquing her.

>Wack.

This is where social media can and does go super wrong sometimes. Aka people get into the habit of talking AT people instead of talking TO them. So the random callout posts tend to lead to anger or clap backs before and/or instead of solutions. I don’t like it.

And calling out Cole about online presence when he’s been out there in public doesn’t seem to be the move. And Cole hitting the studio ain’t grand either cuz he’s guaranteed to get accused of punching down at someone who is viewed as a no name who is actually named Noname! I assume Cole and Noname and all of their rapper friends will force a discussion and people’s hearts can go on.

Regardless, it’s time for folks to collect themselves, take in valuable information, have actual convos, and, most importantly, stay the fuck safe and stop trying to outwoke each other online. And I’m already dreading the parade of ‘Watch me be woke‘ songs we can expect to hear over the next how many ever years. And of course, we’ll get the ‘you aint woke..THIS IS WOKE’ counter songs.

man to an adult woman. However he felt judged by her call out of big name rappers in a public forum and he responded publicly as well ( she probably wasn’t even talking about him lol, he’s famous and talented asf but that’s not who u think fo when u think of big name rappers)

It’s an extremely weird and immaterial call out to focus on enough to make a song of it, he could have just had that dialogue via social media. But who am I to condemn his artistic outlet

The thing i find most bothersome is the hand hiding after the fact and then the almost patronizing praise he gives her on social media

Not a good look. Nice sounding song that is completely tainted now.

I genuinely wonder what he thought would happen.

My guess he is figured he was vague enough that not everyone would immediately get that he was talking about her, but that SHE would and that was probably enough for him.

I wonder if he then didn't expect people to instantly get it and immediately go in on him (which for sure is happening on Twitter) hence the throw the stone but hide his hands thing that he is doing, plus also yes the weird Noname shout out.

He damage control game needs some work lol.

And they can feel that way for whatever reason they want, but the thing I am not going to do is try to engage them on social media. That battle is lost before it starts.

My question is how is this any different from how the police see us?

It just seems disjointed that when police see us as predators we all agree it's wrong, but when some random woman on twitter says it it should be heeded?

At any rate, I don't think these black women that see black men as predators are a very large segment. It's loud and vocal, but I don't think large. Same way I don't think there is a large segment of ADOS that are battling Black people from other parts of the diaspora. Like there are conflicts that only seem to exist online.

Since her "criticism" was that "niggas make whole albums about it but not tweeting about it"... he responded to the tweet with another song as if to say "Those songs you heard, that WAS me speaking"... especially when he made "Be Free" around the time of the Mike Brown case (where he was also in the street, talking to the locals). It's actually kinda funny, because if he'd tweeted his response, there's a strong possibility these same ppl would say "oh so you can tweet on here being a horrible black male by daring to have a conversation with a black woman, but you couldn't tweet about current events?!?!?!" I would've advised him to not respond publicly, but since he did, this might've been the only right way to go about it.

A dialogue. He could have said just as it would be unfair and counterproductive to make a generalization about Black women right now, it’s not helpful to say all big name rappers are remaining silent, some of us are out here mobilizing with the people. Etc

It’s not the “cool” headline grabbing response but it’s a right response.

Who even knew noname said that? To that make headlines? Until this

Also his non-comital followup tweets don't help.

IMO he could have had a more meaningful conversation while still making the same points if he had approached it differently.

Yes. The Wokeness Olympics could end up robbing us of valuable commentary. But at least we’ll have folks making sure we all know how internet mad they are?

I guess some folks are also social media mad cuz Kendrick isn’t tweeting ‘enough’? What!? If you don’t tweet or upload a pic of yourself with a mask on or something on IG, you’re not down with the cause? Did I dream up this dude’s last 4 albums? Is To Pimp A Butterfly a Future album and I have the two dudes mixed up?

You ever seen people run an elimination mile?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZ5YC-EeOSU

Essentially, it's 4 laps around a standard track but at the end of each lap, the person in last place is disqualified. It doesn't produce the best times but it's fun to watch the gamemanship. Faster runners try to sandbag and then kick towards the end of the lap... runners with more endurance try to keep the pace high throughout.

That's what this often feels like. The end of each lap in wokeness is when some new sub-part of a big issue becomes VERY important. Some people scurry to get on board while others might be slow to react but figure their history of being involved in the fight should carry them through.

Actually, it's even worse because at each lap, some new people jump into the race, fresh as hell and ready to really push the pace.

Not saying either side is right but it would be really entertaining if the goal wasn't our collective progress.

Both phrases should become highly used but this Wokeness elimination mile is wonderfully accurate. It’s unfortunate but it’s too true. Meanwhile, the Magas are sitting back chilling and figuring out who is gonna help them roll tide again this time.

He did not spend the song tearing her down.

Still uninformed people shouldn't have the right to pick and choose how they receive information. "Hey I don't know shit, but I'm unwilling to learn anything until you give it to me the way I want to hear it". Why is he asking to be babied? It's just awkward, kind of like his virgin song.

I respect your take but what position is he in to tell her what to do if he admits that she's smarter and more informed?

Is he hit dog hollering? Is he asking her for help? Is he telling her to get off his back? What is it?

I thought it was a good song with a good message.

This song is Cole basically saying he doesn’t have all the answers but he’s willing to learn.. but don’t put him on blast like he isn’t doing anything or has no track record of putting in work.

I remember when she tweeted this, the people on Twitter seemed to mostly be supporting him not only for his discography but moreso for actually being out with the people now and in the past. J.Cole is a standup guy, especially in times like these. He cares about the community and he shows it. People see that.

>Black men gotta understand where we are right now. If you
>criticize a black woman then you're "attacking" her, and if

So true. Sincerely even trying to reach an understanding with folks on this anti-hetero-black-male stuff is somehow viewed as offensive. We can see it playing out right here on the board.

>We gotta just move on and let them have it and do work. We're
>not going to win like this.

I won't judge any black men for their response or lack thereof at this point, for the most part. Any time I see this propaganda tho, I'm at least offering the counter-point. If nothing else, it shows just how impossible to speak with them no matter how peaceful, kind or understanding your approach. I think that alone is making alotta sensible black males realize what's going on here.

In response to Reply # 0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_i12zRBXObI

This is actually a decent conversation. Boots has been doing this since the 90s, so he's seasoned and well-read and offers a great deal of insight. Noname is a budding young activist and passionate. Within this conversation tho, she says she's only on Twitter. She's become an activist online. She lives in her head. Boots has some great advice about getting out into the real world and still figuring it out simultaneously. I don't expect everyone to be the new MLK or Rosa Parks, but this really puts into perspective why it's all about Tweets to her. That's where she lives.
The conversation is about 1 hr and 46 mintues. The entire last 40 minutes really devolves imo, b/c Noname totally disregards any work that black men do or have done due to her feeling they don't speak up for black trans women enough. I don't mind her advocacy for that, but she has literally said black men who haven't spoken against trans violence are white supremacists, so I'm not assuming here.

Same with Instagram.

Back when I was doing Uber I remember 2 girls from Bad Girls Club clowning an NFL player because they had more followers.

It’s currency tho so I get it but scoffing at people who are out in the streets while you are on twitter just seems counterproductive.

and I see she is on that “Black men are the white people of Black people” bullshit

What she said was actually worse. She didn't even say they were LIKE white people, she said they ARE white supremacists. Here's the tweet:

https://twitter.com/noname/status/1268194024319406080

"be critical of every black man on here with a large platform advocating for black liberation. if they don’t publicly criticize violence against black trans/queer people they are maintaining white dominance and are white supremacists"

I feel like they were approaching the inclusion or discussion of Black Trans Rights and Black Women's Rights from their personal experience. To Noname, she says something to the effect of 'people who look like me are being harmed and the primary perpetrators of the violence are members of my larger community, Black men, and Black men aren't doing enough to address it'. Boots is saying basically, 'let's be careful how we frame the discussion of both Black on Black violence as well as the notion that the Black community is more homophobic or transphobic than the larger population of the US, because that can be used against us'. Both are right I think Boots was doing a little too much to police the tone and framework, but I don't think he's wrong.

All in all this is my first exposure to Noname and I support what she's doing and I think she's a good spokesperson for the younger generation of activists.

when we get it unjustly from within it just perpetuates the attacks of WS on black men. black men and black women are each others only allies. we need to watch the code of how we approach these discussions.

I totally agree with your assessment of what Boots was saying. I also have to appreciate that he was there to offer that particular viewpoint in response, because any black on black violence discussion as public discourse can be weaponized against us, especially at a time like this.
As for what she was saying, she goes into naming names and says she's never seen Killer Mike hold a press conference for trans women... like... this man is one of THEE most involved activists in his community and around the country ON THE GROUND his whole life, and she just reduces him to that from behind her twitter screen. And the tweet I cite in 184 is how I know what she was REALLY trying to say. Bruh, I can't.
Like I said above, I have no issue with her advocacy for trans women (she could use some stats in comparison to crime rates against others tho), but to say that black men are white supremacists if you haven't seen them speak on it? That's not only nonsensical, but purposely inflammatory and dangerous. Then when that's pointed out, ppl wanna say black men don't wanna accept criticism as if there's no other way to encourage advocacy for trans women other than referring to black men as white supremacists. Maybe, just maybe THAT'S what black men don't wanna accept? She doesn't consider black men worth speaking to sensibly, and in a time when everyone's turning their energy against racist policing, her main argument is "what about black on black crime." Who's really behaving like the white supremacist here? Otherwise, I like her too. Have for a long time.

wow that is counter-revolutionary volume one shit right there

The fact that she is so earnest makes up for the fact that she's so new to activist thought and work, but it seems like there are a few key moments were she does more harm than good with her statements.

The couple you mention are definitely of that category.

Still don't get how out of all the shit going on right now Cole decided to sit down and write a song about NoName's tweet.

I think he had good meaning behind it, as the language and methods activists use to try to bring people to their cause needs to be talked about, but not now. There are much more pressing issues that Cole should have made a song about

Cole voiced a thought I was having and I am sure others have that so much of the rhetoric you see online is off putting to the point that it will ultimately fcuk up the long term goals of any monumental change.

We didn't get a more presidential candidate, because of the very thing J Cole is talking about IMHOP....but that's probably a whole nother post.

I think this is the perfect time to address it. The whole thing (if I understand correctly) is related to current events. I just wish the discussion could be more reasonable. If that’s what she tweeted, it’s all kinds of wrong to call black men out like that.

tell me which Cole song you would have preferred:

1. FTP song
2. song supporting and encouraging protestors
3. song describing the average black person's response to these tragedies and what it's like to live through this
4. song telling the stories of those who have been killed these last 6 months
5. song giving historical examples of how little progress we've made as a country
6. song addressing his white fans and what steps they need to take to be part of the solution
7. song addressing black men, or even his rap peers, and what they need to do to help
8. song addressing black female activists and how they could better convince average people

i think part of the backlash, which is overblown like everything on twitter, is that his fans wanted to hear 1-7 but got 8

like. A colleague put you on front street for not joining them to protest...

would you wait until things die down to respond? make a song about about something you don’t fully understand? Look. the live killing of George Floyd is not easy to process. I’m still having trouble with it and not sure what I can do. Yes, it made us all angry and captures a lot of white guilt but don’t expect someone to get out there and speak about something they clearly haven’t processed yet.

Like Dave mentioned it’s a lot of people out there doing it without him speaking up.

What really irritates me is Cole has more than a few songs and advocates for Black women IRL.

Yet.. here we are with people acting like Cole has no clue because he didn’t tweet it out.

In response to Reply # 201

It's funny because as much as I love Get Out and This Is America, I always had the notion that Jordan Peele and Donald Glover don't really challenge their audiences. That give them exactly what they want. Definitely a place for that, and its a great way to make money, but it also makes works so accessible that you get 1500 tik tok videos of little white girls doing their version of This Is America.

I have a soft spot for artist who challenge their audiences and their work forces you to come around to their POV. I can't think of no greater artistic reward than making something that offends people sensibilities one day and becomes conventional wisdom over time.

NWA made FTP 30 years ago and people are chanting it today. Thank god they didn't listen to that A&R person who said change their name and title of that song.

are speaking about the misogyny of these so-called conscious rappers (and men in general). I feel like us older Millennials and GenXers let them get away with so much. I remember being at shows and seeing/hearing things that were so cringe and it was rare that anyone spoke out. It makes me hopeful for the future. Good for them.

1 because her song just sounds better.

and 2 because she just comes off as so much more grounded and aware of whats going on right now than he does/did (and thats usually his trademark).

she aint even really go at him or play into any 'beef'. she just comes off as the better person. the one that more embodies the type of voice this moment calls for.

i dont even know why cole chose to pop up the way he did but it was a misfire. this shit was bad for the brand (c).

I have to remind myself of a few of things:

Corona virus is a real thing and it’s still going on whether folks want to their ‘normal’ back or not.

Donald Trump is still POTUS.

A cop put his knee on a civilian’s neck for 8:46. In the street. On camera. Casually. Until well after the civilian passed out. Folks are debating nuances and losing focus trying to keep their political ties intact and/or outwoke each other.

And even with all of that and other stuff, we have two good rappers and reasonably decent try hard humans distracted and distracting others because sometimes social media isn’t useful, fruitful, or healthy for anyone who is worth a damn offline to be wasting their time on.

Refocus it up, rappers and listeners. Let’s get back to this.

it’s crazy that people feel they have the authority to tell folks what they should be doing.

I had an interesting convo with a 20 yr old last night. She’s on it like many of this post. feeling like because she buys the music - the artist is obligated to do what she demands.

crazy...

Maybe they didn’t want to give him a stream but in this day and age its real easy to listen and then make a judgement on the content.

I think the argument tho was “how dare he respond” and should’ve just let her have a moment.

I think that’s bullshit tho.. this isn’t a one way street.

both “songs“ are fine.. like someone said earlier, they acted like Cole was on some Pac or SuperUgly with it and it beyond mild.

Rappers, just like everyone else, are allergic to looking in the mirror. She’s right, but the longer this goes on, the worse it’s going to look for both of them. It’s probably not easy being a rapper with most of your fan base on twitter though.

Chyna Fox very much begs to differ... especially as someone who's been in the trenches on the street and actually studying the books she says Noname is just posting pictures of for clout.

what Noname says, especially in the conversation with Boots Riley, and it's apparent to her that the knowledge in those books isn't in Noname... especially since her book list was copied and pasted from Chyna's book club.

In response to Reply # 0
Fri Jun-19-20 11:19 AM by Boogie Stimuli

Receipts that Noname doesn't care about revolution or black women

Here's the brief 8 minute video before she went live:
https://twitter.com/Chynafox/status/1273368913032744960

This is the VERY in-depth live stream
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7GiFEo0cAA

Long video, but this sister is the real deal. She's also from Chicago and isn't just a Twitter finger activist. She's offering to debate Noname on any of the books that Noname's book club has claimed to read, because Chyna says Noname simply copied all the books from Chyna's pre-existing club after blocking Chyna. Chyna says she shared her story with Noname, telling Noname that she was working two jobs while handling all the organizing, designing etc for the club.... just on some sister to sister, black women building each other up shit. Noname then blocks her and hijacks her whole life story. She says that Noname did to her exactly what she's out her saying now saying that we shouldn't do to black women.
She goes on to make more interesting points. Chyna's book club is about 3 yrs old. She questions Noname saying she's ready to give up (in the Boots Riley convo) after doing this less than a year. She also says it was weak of Boots to not call her out concerning all the black male political prisoners who protected black women and our community like H. Rap Brown or Delbert Africa who just died a couple of days ago after being released from prison after a 42 yr bid for protecting black women. She says these people are just symbols to Noname and not real human beings, b/c Noname doesn't humanize US. I mean this sister goes IN. She cites Safiya Bukhari's "The War Before" and the stories she tells about being protected by black men. Then she makes a point about Noname saying she wants to end patriarchy but asking men to get out front. She also says this isn't how we talk as revolutionaries, and she also points out that all Noname did was turn the conversation with Boots into "what about black on black crime." Chyna says all this is proof that Noname isn't even actually reading the books on her list, which is why she wants to debate her on any book she claims to have read.
Chyna also makes it clear that black men definitely have problems with them being so targeted but black women have problems as well, also from being targeted differently. The sister does real analysis and makes even more points than this. She's passionate and has a lot of great points. When she says she has RECEIPTS, she's telling the truth.

Looks to me like Chyna is here to clean up a mess that Noname is making... off of Chyna's hard work. Ya hate to see it, but idk why Chyna wouldn't speak up if she feels Noname is bastardizing such important work in so many ways.

calling out Chyna Fox and that argument is going to be compelling AF too.

When people going to learn that they grandmamas didn't lie to them when she said people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones or if you ain't got nothing good to say, keep it to yourself.

Noname reminds me of so many super-smart people I went to school with, many with newfound radicalism, who are the most ardent and vocal but were messy AF. I just don't trust anything anyone else says, I just watch to see what they do. That generally works in real life but now twitter has made "doing" all "what you say" which is a recipe for disaster. It's great that twitter has democraticized the conversation but that also means anybody with enough followers can say wild shit about Angela Davis, NAACP, Martin Luther King or any of venerated black person or institution and there will be a gang of people taking it seriously. I can't listen to anyone unless they can answer the question "who are you?" and point to their work.

If Chyna is who she says she is, this won't happen. I also think that argument dismisses everything Chyna is saying here. I get that ppl just may be tired of all this already, b/c they heard the well-known folks already, but it's messed up if we let vultures/clout-chasers drown out the people who are really TRUE to this work... especially this work. This isn't an "everybody learned from somebody" argument. That's not why Chyna is airing Noname out. If Chyna was working with people, lifting up the people around her and not dismissing the community in favor of working with white folks (as she says Noname did), she's not throwing stones from a glass house. Chyna really does this, and when you do also, everything she's saying makes sense for some very key reasons.

This is why you should be able to appreciate Chyna. Maybe yall aren't watching the video, but she answers these questions.

we are all fcuked up. There is somebody who has a terrible story or perspective of the best of us. So I am not saying substantively Chyna is wrong. I am saying the substance doesn't really matter because that point will be lost as soon as someone spills the tea on her. You can't live a bold life without pissing people off and pissed off people can be weaponized to obfuscate any good message.

We've seen this cycle happen so many times already.

Sure, anyone can come out "spilling the tea" on anybody, true or not. However, considering the fact that I've explicitely stated that it's Chyna's specific claims and content that make her statements compelling, the following doesn't apply imo...

>I am saying the substance
>doesn't really matter because that point will be lost as soon
>as someone spills the tea on her.

I'm saying the substance is exactly why what Chyna is saying, matters. Sure, there are people who won't care what she's saying and will just see a pissed of person, but I don't think such people are a good reason to stay silent. I think that applies to any time a person is done wrong, ripped off, abused or what have you. Perhaps that's our fundamental disagreement. If you don't personally feel Chyna's claims are valid, then that would be the source of our disagreement.

>You can't live a bold life

True, yet mistreating people, stealing their story and life's work will also piss them off. You can't do people like that and then pretend they're pissed of because you live a bold life. Chyna's issue with Noname isn't her life. It's her fraudulence and dishonesty.

That interview was painful. Maybe she’s shy but damn.. she didn’t give me any reason to believe she actually reads the books in that book club.

I actually think Cole gave her more credit than she deserves because she sounded pretty flimsy at times.

Hell, she basically said she ain’t been doing shit or reading shit. Which is odd if you are promoting a book club. I respect the honesty but she sounds like she just got woke a few months ago and she’s doing the full throttle that most activist do out the gate.

Yes. Noname's lack of reading and Twitter activism was very apparent in the conversation with Boots Riley. She didn't have much passion or even much to contribute until she started talking black on black crime. That's why I said she was just young. Chyna fills in the blanks and deletes the excuses tho.

>I actually think Cole gave her more credit than she deserves

THANK YOU! Cole gave Twitter alotta fire to come at him, because now they're saying she's smarter than him and reads more, and that just doesn't appear to be true when you listen to her.

That's exactly right. Noname's book club meets once per month and ain't been doing it a whole year yet. Chyna's is once per week for the last 3 yrs. If we talking about gaining clout, then Noname is doing her thing, but she's not a knowledgeable person to be frank.
