In comparison to Da Sweet Blood of Jesus and Red Hook Summer at least this movie has some merit. Lol
I commented above during a good stretch of the movie, it fell off pretty early and never really seemed to find its groove
Some of the acting and some of the scenes were pretty cool tho, but as always - it feels like there's way too much going on while at the same time there's nothing going on
I really didn't like Blackkklansman either, but this could've been great if it stayed in the lane of a viet vet buddy comedy. Feels like he tries to make it poignant and it comes across as messy and contrived

it had its flaws but it flowed much better than this one. i thought it was his best in a minute
this one felt unnecessarily cluttered, and unnecessarily long. Trying to do too much isn't anything new to Spike, but so many of his movies are good/great enough to where it feels like a minor gripe. this one is all over the place and as you said never really finds a groove.
i thought the at their current age flashback was an interesting device the at first, but by the 3rd time it just felt like i was watching a bad play.
I loved the group dynamic when they first hooked up, and the club scenes. "new" vietnam with scars/ghosts of the war all over. everything else is a mess though.

I like everything about this movie, unfortunately more conceptually than entirely. Excellent performances. Beautifully shot. One of the Marvin cues, specifically when he was crooning over one of Delroy's speeches, felt off - especially when I have the instrumental version and knowing it exists frustrated me. It felt disjointed (no pun intended) at times. Did not mind the age bending, actually appreciated it. I felt that dolly shot, but more as a familiar tool in Spike's box than an earned moment. Glad to still be excited about a new Spike Lee joint.
I wanted to like this but it was an hour too long and had a good 10 scenes that weren’t needed.
Loved the flashbacks even tho it threw me off at first. Typical Spike tho with the MAGA hat and cheesy ending.

I don’t think we can trust reviews right now. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t 5 stars IMO

- This movie should have been no more than 2 hours. - I kept thinking about how Lebron and Delroy have the same shape of face every time he would speak. - I couldn't stop talking about his choice of using old ass actors in flashback scenes.. I get that he has creative license, but it was weird.
