I feel like if Black people want to actually progress, we don't give the big platforms to the people who simply shifted their brands. Unless Charlamagne or Amanda can pull up pics of them getting tear gas milked from their face or where the batons beat them - we're getting the Future Superfly soundtrack of modern social justice mouthpieces. I don't see every picture, but I don't see them at marches and walking the walk and talking the talk should be equally represented.
Charlamagne ain't James Baldwin and Amanda ain't Nikki Giovanni, but they're getting the calls to be the new talking heads.
They're getting the mics without doing the hard work. Again, God bless them for speaking up, but if I see Joe Budden on CNN, you may as well put a kardashian up there.

I also think that in order for Black people to truly see some movement in this area, EVERYBODY has to get on code, and that includes people who dance and sing and play ball for a living.

I know the OP mentioned being teargassed, but I don't think that necessarily qualifies a person to speak to the issues. That just means they got teargassed imo.
My thoughts would be more along the lines of the difference between having Charlamagne and T.I. on to talk about reparations rather than economists and political scientists such as Sandy Darity and Yvette Carnell who've deeply studied and researched the topic and written lengthy reports on it, especially as it relates to the poorest of us.
Sure, we're all qualified to speak on our personal experiences, but surely those among us with expertise in certain areas are more qualified to speak on our areas of expertise than those without said expertise.
I'm not against anyone saying their piece on their own platform at all, but I get where the OP is coming from w/ regard to "big platforms" like CNN and who they have on there speaking for us and explaining/ framing our condition. All of us just aren't qualified for that. We all don't know the statistics or have the historical knowledge that informs the moment, etc.

...and less in the streets, I heard an interview he did on NPR recently and they were asking him why he's been missing in a lot of recent marches and he said he's still active but now got mouths to feed and got to make a living, pay bills, & shit.
He said before he use to not give a fuck and be ready to go out and protest but after having children, he realize he needed to be there for them, and he can't be out marching and protesting every day but got kids and a wife to take care of.
I think he's going the legal route and doing more online and going the paperwork route, addressing city councils, mayors, police officials, etc. instead of being a marcher per say.

The Jay-Z/Diddy example is an interesting one because as soon as they started making major paper all of a sudden everyone had their spot light on them and demanded they "do something"
I know about three to four people in my neighborhood who do a lot of activism and do a lot of protest, speaking on local talk radio, go to city council meetings to protest when they try to sneak in shady laws in urban neighborhoods, & etc. and they do these things while still holding down a job, two of them are retired but I can't front, they are doing a lot more than I am willing to do, and sometimes more than these celebrities do (except the money part).

I'm saying this because I just made multiple replies in the Terry Crews post. It is probably better to just to ignore folks like him completely. Talking about him (even if I'm attacking his views) gives him a bigger platform.
We saw what Chump did to Dr. Fauci so this isn't solely a Black issue, it's an American thing. But looking to celebs for answers instead of the people who have done the ground work is unhealthy for all of us.
