Shit is crazy. They had their trip paid for with donations and had all types of videos about their journey and then Huxley just disappeared from their videos.
People aren’t happy. Treating babies like pets and shit. How you gonna name a Chinese boy Huxley and then bounce on him?

And despite the obviously annoying optics of the pristine white family trying to play hero with an Asian/African/other child and failing, I think folks need to chill with the auto-judgement that they just flippantly "gave up" and treated the kid like a pet.
Hopefully they're being truthful when they say that they found a far better family situation for the kid. If things were really volatile and untenable in their household for the child and the adopting family, then it's better longterm for both parties if they truly did their homework and found a better situation for him to thrive.
Full disclosure, I'm adopted and went through a semi-similar situation as an infant so I have some experience/expertise (and bias) on this type of situation.
That said, the one thing that gives me pause is the fact that she was making money off of this whole thing. Which (1) leaves her open to this criticism because she shared her story so openly, and (2) means, to me, that maybe she should consider giving some of the money that was donated back to the folks who donated it. Or perhaps better yet she should donate it all to a similar organization to hopefully help other children.

that said, I agree with your breakdown 100% It's an easy story to run with the bullet points, and say fuck them forever, but we don't really know. The money thing obviously muddles everything. I think at very least any money they made off him should go towards his care. And for God sake give him a real name.
It's kind of a reminder of people mistaking people's social media highlights as the reality of their lives. I keep thinking of this baseball game me some friends were at last year. This absolutely miserable couple in front of us with 2 kids, the man is defeated, the woman is all in his ear and doesn't want to be there. They're trying to get the kids comfortable and they can't. They show up around the 2nd inning and leave before the 4th, but not before taking some really happy pictures of themselves. and i'm sure the caption was something like "Family having a great time at the Dodger game on this beautiful Sunday!" #blessed

Hahah yes, that was a pretty shitty thing they did to the poor kid. Maybe the new family renamed him something more in line with his heritage. Hopefully.

Documenting everything and cashing in is the suspect part.
I have experience with Foster kids because my mom used to do it when I was in HS. Definitely some serious behavior issues but most of those kids were much older.
I just think if you are going to adopt special needs you really should understand what comes with it before you start a YouTube channel promoting your awesomeness.

And I want to be clear that I'm not outright defending this couple. I'm just saying that I'd be hesitant to judge them outright *just* because they had to give him up.
But, like you, I pause re: the $$ situation and agree 100% with you there. And also agree that they probably should've been better prepared, just based on what we know.

As I said in response to legs above, I guess I *should* clarify that I'm not outright defending these people, at all. I have plenty of skepticism as well for a number of reasons. I'm just saying I would personally hesitate to lambaste them for the decision they made to send him to another family because these adoption situations are often exceptionally complicated. And in many of these situations, like mine, they ultimately work out for the better.

I feel that people that monetize their personal lives warrant a high degree of skepticism for what they put out publicly, as in the image they want to present will almost always be put forward with the goal of continuing to be able to monetize their future via a manicured presentation.

And to your point, I tried to hedge everything I said by saying that the monetization gives me pause as well. So I think we're sorta saying the same thing but just slightly leaning in different directions re: whether or not they deserve to be blasted for what they decided to do.
I can't argue with what you're saying. They put it out there, so they should expect what they're getting.

I would have tons of sympathy for a family that decided they were not equipt to deal with a child they adopted.
But for them to monetize the adoption and sell us on their perfect family is all types of messed up.
It like I am sympathetic to couples that get divorced, but if you have spent the last few years on facebook bragging about how great your marriage is and then you announce you getting a divorce, you are worthy of being clowned.

Don’t get me wrong. Adopting/Foster care is rough when the kid has serious issues but this is why you don’t make a YouTube channel about the process.
That name tho.. they really saw him as a pet and once he had a personality and needed attention they tapped out.

once she audopted the asian kid, her followers blew up to the millions and she got sponsors left and right. during that time, folks notice on her IG page that Huxley was kept in a closet for a temper tantrum. he was duct tape on his hands to keep from sucking his thumbs, yet all her bio kids were doing the exact same thing.
the moms on tik tok are lighting her ass on fire. "give us a tutorial on how to get rid of an autistic child" "who came up with the bright idea to rehome a pet, i mean a child"
