And a lady stuck between a rock and a hard place. The rock being the need for income, the hard place being putting her health potentially at risk for some delicious waffles.

I think for a majority of the people that are online right now (the vocal "non essential") they see themselves as the old man.
I think for me, I don't at all relate to the old man in this picture and the privilege of leisure so directly at the expense of others is revolting.
Her mask does not protect her from his breathing, at all.

These simple face coverings aren't very effective at keeping people from contracting the disease. The point is to catch water droplets from the breath of the wearer, who could be a carrier and not know it yet.

So then there's also:

He has a choice. She does not. Thanks Brian Kemp.

He's an entitled prick for not paying her the same courtesy that she's showing him.

I find it hard to put much blame on him. The people in charge said its safe enough to go out and do stuff like this, so he went out.

There's going to be a point in time where most of us are going to do the exact same thing.

I can't see myself putting lower wage earners at risk to their health because I want comfort. That to me seems like a wild dick move.

There's going to be some authority figure who is going to blow a whistle that's going to signal to you that eating in a restaurant is no longer risky.

For him, maybe it was the governor (rightly or wrongly). For you and many others, it may be some other authority figure. But eventually you are going to trust somebody that it is no longer risky to go out.

We've cooked everything for over a month now. Last take out was 3/14. The risk of getting anything from pick up with the lack of testing here didn't seem worth the chance.

If anything in this house we're probably still about another month away from feeling comfortable doing take out for fresh food.

A month puts at June for take out at the earliest.

Long distance travel at that point is still maybe 3-4 months away (for us) at best , so it's not like we would have a NEED to stop into a place it'd be a choice.

Four months puts us at September

So from a practical standpoint, no time soon.

From an academic standpoint of safety vs not safety, I'd say also no time soon. A virus is a virus. It won't be a person telling me that it's safe or not, just going to wait to see the effects of gradual opening, full opening, and then assess the risks for myself.

Can't really do it properly in any dine-in eating situation.

So I'll come back to: Thanks Brian Kemp.

(I have no idea if this photo was in Georgia, but he's kinda the posterboy for the "let's just pretend nothing is happening" philosophy.)

I live in GA and admittedly haven't listened to everything Kemp has said. did he actually say it was safe? or just pray about about it and say we have to get back to work?

if anything, awful house should have made that bar seating off limits. its one thing to take orders at a table, but its another to have to stay in a person's breathing space the whole time they're there.

either way, GA is officially back on open at midnight tonight I believe. no more shelter in place. Malls open up tomorrow.

yay for all the leadership for being concerned with the well being of its citizens.

I don't see any privilege there. He's not being a dick. He's following the rules.

The state gave the all clear to go out to restaurants. Waffle House opened up. He sat down and got a meal.

Last time I went to the grocery store maybe 60% of people were wearing masks. It was fucking infuriating seeing these assholes walking around like its not their problem. Its a big middle finger to the store workers who are all wearing masks and taking a lot of risk so that you can buy food. If you can't return the simple courtesy of wearing a mask then you shouldn't be allowed in.

won't be follow this new 'courtesy'. even for the sake of people they care about. much less for strangers.

I saw 2 parties over the weekend. folks are congregating at parks and shit like normal. having good weather isn't urging people to stay in either.

Well the obvious is that you have a POC essential worker taking the right precautions and a white male customer not.

Could read as a microcosm of the world, how white folks reap all the benefits while POC do the hard work and have the most risk.

But also to me it just looks like someone trying to have a sliver of normalcy and not be reminded for a brief second that we all have been trapped inside for almost a month now with no real end in sight.

I get that he doesn’t have anything on which is janky but in my recent store visit I seen a few workers without them.

I think some people are going to push the limits because they think they won’t get it or maybe they just don’t care.
