but Nevada is about to go through hell. They don't even have a state income tax. The majority of the state budget comes from taxes on gambling. They also have a state sales tax, but that can only bring in so much, especially under these circumstances. And pretty much the entire state economy is Las Vegas gambling and convention business. Vegas is gonna find out the hard way that just allowing businesses to reopen won't bring that business back.

If we don't get a miracle vaccine or antiviral treatment, people aren't gonna be holding conventions in Vegas for YEARS. It's not just a political thing. Anyone who holds a convention could be legally liable for spreading the virus.

And even Republicans are germaphobic right now, and will be for a long time. This is a rare occasion when germaphobia is a good thing. But is a nation of germaphobes gonna be zoning out pushing buttons on shared slot machines? Holding cards and chips that have been through god knows how many people's hands?

Nevada still isn't fully recovered from the housing crisis. But this goes directly at their heart. As of now states can't legally declare bankruptcy, but there's talk about changing that, and if so, Nevada will probably be the first state to go. Then what the hell happens? Cliven Bundy's probably gaming out his strategy to be de facto warlord of the Free State of Nevada.
