The songwriting alone on that joint >>> everything, not to even mention how good it sounds.

The sonic aesthetic of Bobby V's debut is very nice tho.

I will say the Mista album is one of my favorite from the 90s so I know he has the voice....but a whole album?! the whole decade?!

We had Dwele, Bilal, Usher, Chris Brown, that man from Chicago we ignore now...and those are just the first five I thought of

and the 2nd best IMO is Soulstar but I guess you could consider that more Neo Soulish than R&B

I wish there would be a resurgence of R&B groups, like Jodeci, SWV,
112, LeVert, En Vogue and such. there was a group called Hamilton Park that had a song written by Eric Roberson some years ago and I was hoping they would blow up so labels would be forced to invest in groups again ... but they broke up

Nobody wants to be in a group where they aren’t the Michael.

And folks are scared to be in a group, think they are the Michael, and then mess around and find out they’re really the Ralph.

Neosoul: Gimme Mama’s Gunn as the best of those in the 00s. If not, that first Jill was aggressively jamming too.

I used to play around on FL around that time and “Slow Down” was THE beat that I wish I could make back then.

Tell Me was a banger too.

I hit play on this a few songs ago on the strength of this post. Early on, it sounds like dude smooth made a Jodeci tribute album. Like Diary of a Mad Band era music-wise. With that, I’m having the time of my life with this album. Good looking out! Bobby has always made singles I like. And I thought he had killer remixes too. Like that Slow Down remix..I wore that thing out back then.

Having to think hard to even come up with many 00’s R&B albums I was really into though.

Tweet’s album was strong.

J.E. Heartbreak was strong. I think that was 2000.

Always thought Boyz II Men’s Full Circle album was criminally slept on.

Voodoo has to be #1 though.

What's the difference? At most Neo-Soul is a sub genre of R&B. If the guy whose name I forget hadn't of coined the term for marketing purposes, would anybody be saying 'Who is Jill Scott' or 'Mama's Gun' weren't R&B albums?

there is no genre called neo soul or award.

they all get nominated for RnB

This is what badu and maxwell were talking about.....the nonsense title neo soul or nu soul

It very much is in maybe the most classic sense possible lol. Same for anything Maxwell, Jill Scott, and Musiq have ever made. Musiq even remakes "Settle For My Love"... I mean... what are we even talking about here? Lmao. So many of Musiq's songs are basically 80s Stevie songs without the range. Whereareyougoing, and 143 come to mind, but the influence is strong throughout his career.
I guess my question is: What qualifies something as "Neo-Soul" to you as opposed to R&B?
