"Andrew Yang: eh, Asian people just need to act more american"

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/04/01/andrew-yang-coronavirus-discrimination/

How to fix racism against asian people:

"We Asian Americans need to embrace and show our American-ness in ways we never have before. We need to step up, help our neighbors, donate gear, vote, wear red white and blue, volunteer, fund aid organizations, and do everything in our power to accelerate the end of this crisis. We should show without a shadow of a doubt that we are Americans who will do our part for our country in this time of need."

this is y'all's nice guy?

This has always been known they just keep speaking on every little thing though so we hear it more now.
Like they couldn't just be content with their millions or billions in assets and trillions in companies they run, couldn't even be content stamping their name on everything
They see one failed white man fail his way up to the presidency and now every single one of them wants a Time magazine cover for their deep thoughts.

Edit: actually reading now. I don't see any lies.

It's weird that you took the last weird and corny part to quote and skipped everything said beforehand.

Sorry homie. There's nothing rational about racism, you can't negotiate with it.
There's not gonna be a Greenbook or Driving Miss Daisy for it that'll help.

In response to Reply # 23
Fri Apr-03-20 12:41 PM by T Reynolds

Has an op-ed ever solved a problem it complains about?

What are you expecting from him?

There has been an undeniable rise in hate crimes against an ethnic group that is specifically targeted because of this disease. Andrew Yang is the most easily recognized Asian-American politician and he wrote an Op-Ed for Wapo that is speaking about the issue and ends being vaguely aspirationally assimilating. How long have Asians been doing this in the US? He makes reference to the 442nd Infantry in WW2 who was the most decorated unit in US military history, and points out a series of stuff like that because a lot of Americans need to be reminded that Asian Americans are Americans too.

This op-ed is pointing out what should be obvious, but who else is going to speak on it from an Asian-American perspective?

And not even the most highest celebrated or accomplished have changed White America's view of Black people.
So his view is either self hating, externally racist towards others, or both.

"CHINA" or MS-13 and cited automation as the primary reason many americans will be economically compromised in the future

UBI is definitely a bandaid on a serious issue but it takes some of those MAGA chuds' attention away from immigrants and places them on corporate cost-cutting practices that hurt the middle class.

INSTEAD of promising to take on those practices like Warren and Sanders he just opted to give Americans a share of it.

At the root.
Well these people are saying that the color green has various shades on the light spectrum but these others are saying that green was derived from the blood leprechauns and is a concept and not truly observable ... there's something to be found within both view points if you really think about it.

how'd you get to eugenics from that tweet?

what he's talking about amounts to variolation aka inoculation which at this point with a brand new virus is controversial but has been a successful way of saving lives in the past with various diseases

Siddartha Mukherjee wrote about it in the New Yorker recently: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2020/04/06/how-does-the-coronavirus-behave-inside-a-patient mukherjee

Because what’s he’s advocating for is either
1. Treating them like they’re superior and their bodies will be the cure
Or
2. Treating them like they’re inferior and worth studying on.

Eugenics: Definition of eugenics
: the practice or advocacy of controlled selective breeding of human populations (as by sterilization) to improve the population's genetic composition

Meanwhile: As the country has become more racially and ethnically diverse, so has the U.S. military. Racial and ethnic minority groups made up 40% of Defense Department active-duty military in 2015, up from 25% in 1990. (In 2015, 44% of all Americans ages 18 to 44 were racial or ethnic minorities.)

In the same year, blacks made up 17% of the DOD active-duty military – somewhat higher than their share of the U.S. population ages 18 to 44 (13%). Blacks have consistently been represented in greater shares among enlisted personnel (19% in 2015) than among the commissioned officers (9%). The share of the active-duty force that is Hispanic has risen rapidly in recent decades. In 2015, 12% of all active-duty personnel were Hispanic, three times the share in 1980.

And we know what volunteering has historically looked like for minorities in this country with regards to military service. They won’t solicit volunteers from the officer class.

Military is a job.
A virus cares not one bit about what your job is.

And if you want to share a link on advancing an idea let me show you where my minimal baseline is.

the racial dynamics seem like a reach to me. i don't think anything racial was consciously intended by yang here.

for context, i've talked with a doctor friend about the idea of hcw's staggering self-infection in order to ensure there are enough people to serve the sick. the level of infectious dose that gives people Covid seems important. so a nurse who is exposed repeatedly to coughing patients may be at greater risk for developing a severe case than someone who rubs their nose after touching a shopping cart handle or whatever. so it may make sense for people on the frontlines to self-infect in a somewhat controlled manner vs risk a more severe case later down the line. obviously we'd like to know a lot more about a lot more before going down this path.

i just don't see where a belief in the innate superiority or inferiority of any set of people comes in here

I hear volunteers and antibodies and I think Tuskegee
Or Henrietta
Or James Marion Sims
And it’s not hard at all for me to see how this country led by this man and his people would quickly go from the idea of military volunteers to just saying fuck it and sampling bodies at the reservation in Arizona that’s having a high outbreak or how much he hates Chicago and sees a test case there.

Yall need to handle that cause I'm damn sure not supporting a campaign trolling my people. Not supporting a community that bullies and expresses contempt for mine across the country. The officer Liang debacle happened as well..

If that's how he feels as a part of that community then thats how he feels. How does it feel to have a Kamala Harris type candidate forced on you? Whats the version of hotep for this community I can shame yall with for not supporting this candidate after saying what he said?
