one, the kids are 2.5 and 7 months and right now they are just jazzed to spend time with us.

the 2.5 year old is benefiting from the time home in that his language skills have gone from zero to 100.

on the overall impact, I was talking to wife about this, and I have a theory that the time home will have a lot of amazing, generation changing impact for a lot of folks and I believe the end result will be an appreciation for family. I imagine once these kids become adults they will be the ones who will really push for increased maternity/paternity leave, they will be the ones who look at the 5 day/40 hour workweek and say "bruh, this is NOT what life is about" - all in a capitalist framework of course.

i buy them for the love. there are some artists and albums i love that i want to physically have. it is hard to pass up so cheap ones or ones with cool packaging though. i havent listened to all my records yet but i try to listen to some at least once a week.

it looks cool to display some of them too. rotate them here and there.

Got a feeling the .govs around the world are positioning themselves to see who the winners & losers will be.

Big Pharma's about to get even bigger. Mosanto, Nestle & similar countries probably gonna go for monopolies, buying up struggling smaller companies/farms.

Small businesses in the US are gonna get shafted HARD (in the short-term, at least).

Big businesses will get bailouts, but some will fail anyway due to changing economy.

All of us regular folks are gonna be the biggest losers.

In terms of "over," my guess is late 2021 or early 2022 we should be able to go outside without wearing PPE.

I bet those mirrors and peloton bike sales have shot up.

I know that ain’t happening anytime soon but hypothetically speaking I would love tot ale the actual vacation we booked.

Feels like it’s over tho.

I know other people are impacted more than I buy on a selfish level I still can’t believe we couldn’t experience our first real vacay due to a fucking pandemic. Not job loss, tsunami, earthquake, drug cartel killings or plane crash.. but a global pandemic? Smh.

...but thats what i'm missing the most ..playing 3 times a week was one of the things that i looked forward too the most ..pretty much my only kind of workout i was doing for years ..and pretty much the equivalent of meditation for me.

thats gone now.. and i don't think a society that needs to rock masks and gloves even after this pandemic fades will gravitate towards a close contact activity like pickup basketball again

I use to love to play weekly games and fell off in the last decade. I want to see if I can ease myself back into an old man regular game.

Later this summer, we'll probably be past the apex in most areas, and more importantly there'll finally be enough ventilators and procedures to treat the sick. By then, it might be okay for a lot of people to go back to public life.

But it won't really be over, biologically speaking, until we either have a vaccine or herd immunity. Either of those will take probably 2 years. And that's assuming the virus doesn't mutate.

People will still be getting this, and dying from it, for years. I won't be comfortable with my mom leaving the house, for years. I will personally be on edge about leaving the house myself, for years.

PBS reran an old documentary last night about the 1918 virus. They interviewed people who were kids back then. That disease (because it was so virulent and they couldn't distance as well back then), went through society like a wildfire and then disappeared almost overnight from herd immunity when nearly everyone had been exposed. Still, the people they interviewed said the general anxiety over the disease never went away, and it only declined slowly over the following decades.

Even after we're 'safe,' day-to-day life will still be very different.

Still, we can daydream. I daydream about a lot of very casual sex.

getting a lot of "take one for the team" direction from management at my job. a job where they made the very clear and explicit decision last year to not promote me beyond my contractual adjunct status.

but now that there's an emergency and working beyond the bounds of my contract (just got an update on grading policy today for a class that i'd already wrapped up and submitted grades) is suddenly an expectation as we pull together to provide for our students.

knowing that i don't have the job security to push back even a little, or to ask if i'll be compensated for the tremendous amount of extra work that i've taken on, really sucks. it's time to organize and tell the layers and layers and layers and layers of useless academic administrators to fuck off and pay us.

Im about to buy tickets to Hawaii for the fall. Under $400 round trip right now and free cancelation.

Otherwise I'm doing what I call the triple play in Denver which consists of sushi at Uchi, cocktails at Death & Co, and then 10 pm happy hour pizzas at Cart Driver.

i might spend the whole day there.
the one good thing about me having some time away from the office is that I was able to get my left shoulder checked out and had some therapy sessions. Its getting back to normal with some daily exercises. by the time this shit is over, i'm going to be ready to hit the bench again and shoot some mid range jumpers. crazy how a shoulder injury can fuck a lot of shit up - i couldnt life, couldnt shoot, could barely put my coat on without any pain.

The plan was to pursue comedy full time. Now it's looking like it may be easier to postpone that shit because the scene is dry af here (Sweden). They're talking about a second wave and even a third wave and I'm sure people will freak out but part of me says fuck it. If it gets too bad I can go back to the daytime gig. Big time decision on the horizon though.

Was suppose to happen this month, but they're not having any non-emergency surgeries during this time…

Either that or go visit my family in the bay…
