"What are we doing about haircuts "

I’m tempted to experiment on my boys and if doesn’t pan out, shave them bald.
Not so willing to have my wife do the same to me.

I usually shave my head and keep a goatee. But now me & the little lady are both working from home. I've told her (only half joking) that I'm not shaving anything until we go back to the office. It's been a full month as of today.

since then a few people have asked the same thing lol

for now im letting mine grow but at some point i at least need to clean it up. im still coming into the office and as far as i know all shops are closed. not trying to find someone that will do it at their place or come to me.

ill probably end up buying some new clippers. i figure at some point im just going to cut it all off. probably try to look up some tips on how to cut it on my own but i expect the first time wont go well lol

Barbers gotta eat too.

Right now, it's wolf man status. both the beard and the hair would be an issue if we were allowed to leave the house.

Don't remember the last time I cut my hair. I let mines go wild & free.

EDIT: I do shape-ups on the beard & neck with clippers tho. Learned to do this using one or two mirrors in college.

I could give myself a hustler (even all the way around) pretty easily using the above setup.

working from home, I barely put clothes on. Beard is wolfing out. I basically wash my hair and beard and moisturize them both and wear a ball cap. I got on pajama pants and a Thunder cap, right now.

I hate looking unshaven, so I still tighten up my face every few days. no as often as normal.

going to have to take care of my son this weekend. trim and shape him up. haven't done so in a few years. so it'll be an adventure.

As I get a little older, my hair doesn't grow out evenly in all spots so looks weird if it gets too long.

I gave myself my first "covid self-haircut" last weekend -- came out decent, and I didn't mess anything up requiring head shaving lol.

peace

I brought some clippers while I was at Walmart before all this started and I haven't used them yet..

I'll most likely use them to do my hairline, maybe..

my mustache needs trimming though, it's growing over my lip and it's getting annoying especially around the corners of my mouth..

all and all I'll most likely wolf out..

If you're cutting it even all around, you don't even need to see for that. The back of neck shape up is really the only part you need a mirror for.

Use the hand mirror to see the back of your head.

**edit** I just skimmed the self-cut tutorial that Cam posted, and I'll say you might wanna get a larger hand mirror than that dude has, especially if you're new to this. I've been cutting my own hair for 25 yrs, so I wouldn't steer you wrong. Another thing I didn't see him address is that sometimes when you're working with a smaller guard, direction of hair growth makes a big difference. Meaning... sometimes I'll cut downwards or sideways with a certain guard to thin, and then upwards with the same guard to blend. You'll figure out which areas of your head require which direction tho with time. The guy in the tutorial is good tho otherwise.

We'll see how long he can hold out...

He's had his haircut by pretty much the same barber since he was little.

I tried telling him that I used to cut his hair (until my wife made me take him to a real barber), and that I used to cut hair in my college dorm for beer money. I can cut a rudimentary fade and line it up.

He's just starting to look shaggy. I give it a week or so before he gets antsy. But, since there are no girls around, he might be able to go longer.

With the Fast Feeds you get pro level clippers that are great for blending or just cutting an easy ceasar for an at home barber. I prefer the Andis Masters, but honestly it’s a matter of preference between the Masters, the Fast Feeds, and the Wahl Seniors for a versatile adjustable clipper. You can get the Fast Feeds for 69 (or less) while the Andis and Wahls are usually around 100.

There are other options for detachables and cordless, but with the Fast Feeds and some Andis T-Outliners for a trimmer you’re pretty much good to go.

jacked up my hair last night lol the sides were really bugging me so i decided to "just" cut the sides.

top wasnt too long to i figured i could just touch up the sides and be good. problem is i only have my beard trimmer. tried finding my old hair clippers and found one with some combs but it didnt have the cord. i decided to give it a try. set the guard to "4" and got to it. uh the top just was not blending. had full blown toad style. i guess a 4 on a beard trimmer isnt the same as a 4 on hair clippers? lol

i was thinking if i cut the top id go with an 8 since i used to get that at the shop. since the 4 seemed kinda short i decided to go with a 10. pretty much ended up looking like a 3/4 at the top lol. went ahead and did the fade with a "2" on the beard trimmer. looks like a 1.

then the trimmer started whining. i got the brush and oil from the bag and found out it had some hair combs 😑

3mm 6mm 9mm 12mm. tried the 12mm at the top and it basically cut nothing. touched it all up again with the combs and...i think it looks okay. maybe. i didnt have a handheld mirror. tried using my phone for that but eh.

definitely getting a mirror in for next time. trying to see if i can get longer combs for the trimmer if not an actual hair kit. i tried getting one last week but theyre sold out everywhere. i can wait a couple weeks now though.

this is what i used last night

So this has been perfect timing. Getting through the final phase of the "awkward stage" with my hair and the sloppiness of my beard during this lockdown.
